Wildlife Boat Tour on the Peñas Blancas River in Arenal

Discover a tropical river ecosystem and the tranquility of the forest while floating slowly down the Peñas Blancas River. As you drift, you'll observe an abundance of wildlife, including monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles, and alligators, plus different types of birds, like herons, cormorants, American darters, and passerines. You might even get lucky and spy a quirky reptile called a basilisk lizard, which is capable of walking on water!

Your boat will glide quietly above the complex and interesting riverside vegetation, which includes dense branches of ficus, luehea, and kapok trees full of lianas and epiphytic plants. The foliage leans over the river, intersecting from both sides to form magical and mysterious water tunnels full of fantastic shapes and very little sunlight.

This tour allows you to observe and photograph nature's beauty without the typical trekking requirements. The raft makes for a quiet and peaceful trip, where you will only occasionally need to lightly paddle to avoid an obstacle. Its special material is light, highly buoyant, and stable, and doesn't affect the river floor as it passes without disturbing the wildlife.

Additionally, your captain is an experienced naturalist who will share his knowledge with you as you pass through this special ecosystem. His keen eye can locate species even in dense vegetation and those with camouflage and mimicry adaptations.
