Benjamin Mujkic
Originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, I have lived for 7 years abroad in Croatia, Italy, and Germany. The past 20 years I am living and working in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. By profession, I am a sports teacher and besides leading trips for Green Visions through the year I am a swimming and skiing instructor.
Having graduated from the Faculty of Sport, I consider myself a very avid outdoor person. Keen to learn and grab new experiences, I hiked and walked big part of relatively recently established Via Dinarica trail, the one that stretches from Slovenia to Albania. I am quite an enthusiastic person and passionate when it comes to sharing the beauties and possibilities of the Western Balkans to our guests.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"I specialize in developing and running hiking and cycling trips along the Via Dinarica, in all Western Balkans countries such as Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, and Macedonia. Being a ski instructor and almost the whole winter on snow, I'm also developing and running winter hiking and snowshoeing trips as well as skiing trips, in different ski resorts close to Olympic Sarajevo like Bjelasnica, Jahorina, and Igman. My favorite skiing would be off the ski slopes, into the wild! "
How did you get involved in travel?
"On a lecture at my University, mountaineering class, the company I now work for came and introduce themselves looking for new guides. At this point in time, I did not have a clue about hiking, mountaineering and the business possibilities in this sector. The way how they spoke about it made me immediately fall in love with the guiding profession. Almost 10 years later, many trips and educations later I am now part of a great team doing besides guiding, sales, logistics, and trip development. "
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"I was very lucky to have the opportunity to be as one of the first persons ever, to hike and walk a big part of (at that time) completely newly established long-distance hiking trail, Via Dinarica, the one that stretches from Slovenia to Albania. This was an almost two months long journey where we covered a big part of the beautiful mountain range, known as Dinaric Alps, stretching through the western Balkans. Seeing and hiking many mountains and peaks, eating the delicious traditional cuisine, experiencing similar but also quite different cultures along the trail were my best travel experience so far."
