Monica Hernandez

Colombian by nationality, curious about other cultures, and passionate for stories, I have been traveling since I was 10. After a hike in the Anapurna in 2010, Asia got my attention, so I moved to Sri Lanka to start helping other travelers to have the experiences I enjoyed. Asia still has me enchanted and the adventure has continued for the past 5 years in Yangon.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Culture, trekking, adventure, off the beaten track, local experiences in Myanmar & Cambodia."

How did you get involved in travel?

"My passion for travels began with my parents: My mother always looking for a mountain to hike during the weekends as an escape from the city, and my father being transferred to Israel led me to discover new cultures and destinations since I was young. Later on, my curiosity kept growing and I lived and traveled through all the American continent while writing about these experiences for travel magazines. A new phase began 7 years ago by living and traveling in Asia and still much more to keep discovering. "

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Traveling in South America and hearing about a desert of salt. I got out of my trip plan and went to discover that desert of white hexagons on the floor and flamingos sleeping on one leg while the strong wind encouraged me to get back some the shelter. "

I booked a last minute (quite literally) trip to Myanmar and arranged a trekking experience with the help of Monica and her team. I couldn't recommend Monica highly enough, she is very pleasant to speak to, highly knowledgable and assisted in putting together a pacakage that fit exactly the kind of trip I wanted to have - in my case a solo, genuine experience of Myanmar and the local tradition and culture. Thanks again Monica for going above and beyond - I had a great time and now look forward to returning!
