Great adventure in Costa Rica

A couple visited Costa Rica in September 2017

“We land at 7:30pm Tuesday night. We leave on sunday morning. We fly in and out of San Jose Airport.

We want to see a volcano. Hang out in hot springs.

We want to hike the rain forest and jungle. We want to see monkey's.

We also want to hike a cloud forest.

Finally, if there is time, it would be fun to see a beach, we love the beach.

Thanks!!!”

Welcome to kimkim!

Sounds like you are excited! And who wouldn't be going to Costa Rica it is an amazing country, with so much diversity packed into such a small place.

I think we can do most of the items on your wishlist but it will be hard to pack it all in! :) I would like to propose 2 options for you, and see what you think.

Option 1: Volcanos, hot springs, Cloud Forests (but no beach)

Day 1 (Tue): stay overnight in San Jose
Day 2 (Wed): leave early to head to Arenal/ La Fortuna for Volcanos, hiking and hot springs. You can also see waterfalls, a night tour to see the nocturnal animals, hanging bridges and more.
Day 3 (Thu): An additional day to see the sights in Arenal. You will not be bored, there is so much to do here.
Day 4 (Fri): Head to Monteverde Cloud Forest. We can either take the car route, or we can organize a boat across the lake. Evening to enjoy the scenery, and do a short hike on your own.
Day 5 (Sat): Really get to know Monteverde. We can organize a naturalist guide to take you through the forest, see if you can spot some monkeys.

Depending on when your flight is, we head back to San Jose Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.

Option 2: Volcanos, hot springs, beach (but no cloud forests)

Day 1 (Tue): stay overnight in San Jose
Day 2 (Wed): leave early to head to Arenal/ La Fortuna for Volcanos, hiking, and hot springs. You can also see waterfalls, a night tour to see the nocturnal animals, hanging bridges and more.
Day 3 (Thu): An additional day to see the sights in Arenal. You will not be bored, there is so much to do here.
Day 4 (Fri): Head to Manuel Antonio National Park. The national park is amazing for seeing animals, and some relaxation time at the beach. All four species of monkeys live in the national park!
Day 5 (Sat): More activities (snorkeling, fishing, hiking, animal watching, etc).

Again, depending on when your flight is, we can head back to San Jose Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. There is also an option to fly out of Manuel Antonio National Park to the San Jose airport.

Another national park that you might enjoy is Tortuguero National Park on the Carribean side. Lots to see (monkeys, sloths, and turtles). That could be an alternative to Manuel Antonio. It is a bit more remote, and an adventure in itself to get to (no roads in, only boat transportation).

Traveler
Option one sounds great. Our flight leaves at 8am Sunday morning.
