“We will arrive morning of 2/20 and leave evening of 2/28. Flights are already booked. Would love to see natural highlights and relax. We don't want to drive too much and not too many tours. Ideally like to be independent with the 2 of us. Blue Lagoon and Northern lights are a must. Want to spend a day or two in a cabin some where isolated in the mountains if possible.”

Carvis Honeymoon Adventure in Iceland
Trip planning conversation
Hi, welcome to kimkim!
I'm Chris and I will be your kimkim travel specialist for your trip to Iceland for your honeymoon.
Here's an idea for a self-driving tour that's about 1 week long. I can further customize it and add a couple nights in some of the areas so that you can explore them at your own pace. I would recommend the Snaefellsnes Peninsula as a more isolated area, especially compare to the Golden circle and the south coast where most other tourists will be.
If you don't see the Northern lights on your own during this time, I can arrange a northern lights tour when you are back in Reykjavik for your last night, and I would recommend the Blue Lagoon on the way back to the airport.
This looks perfect!
Ok, take a look at the example route I sent. If you like that, I can work the ION Hotel into it when you are around the Golden Circle area. If you decide to use our service for your bookings, I can give a couple options for each night: 1 that's a nice place with good price, and another that's a more unique accommodation in the area, so that you have the choice.
yea lets price out that one!
Ok, to set the expectations, we charge a $250 fee (plus about $13 for processing) for our service once you're happy with the general plan . For this, I'll put together a custom itinerary based on your feedback, make all arrangements for accommodations, car rental, and any other tours/activities you may want to join (I'll list some options for the different areas).
I'll put everything together with detailed day-by-day information on all the sights and stops you will pass, optional detours, as well as restaurant recommendations for each of the areas.
Around this time, I typically can find guesthouses for around $130/nt average (some with shared bathrooms), and an SUV Rental is around $65-70/day. Given that it's around Valentine's day, there may be a little bit less availability, but I'll let you know what I can find.
Are you ok with guesthouses with shared bathrooms, or do you prefer private facilities only?
Is it possible to look at prices with both options?
Also unless you think it is, SUV isn't necessary if you can't find better rental options.
I'll get you a price for compact as well. They will all have winter tires. This time of year the road can be icy in storms, and there are high winds at times. the 4WD will give you more control, but if you are comfortable with winter driving you can also use the compact.
Yes I am from Chicago haha so plenty of experience. Even smaller car with 4wd works
Ok, sounds good.
From reading the sample itinerary, did one of the areas interest you more than the other? I can add an extra night in that area so that you have more time there.
They all looked great but don't know much about Iceland. Which area do you think could or should require an extra day?
How about something like this:
2/14 - Reykjavik
2/15 - Borgarnes
2/16 - Snaefellsnes
2/17 - Snaefellsnes
2/18 - Golden Circle
2/19 - Vik
2/20 - Hof / Jokulsarlon Area
2/21 - longer drive back to Reykjavik (or stay outside Reykjavik if you want)
2/22 - Blue Lagoon on the way back to the airport
looks good to me. Do you only recommend Blue Lagoon on way out because it's merely a few hour thing and that's it?
I usually recommend it on the way out because it's very close to the Airport, and often people arrive pretty early in the morning before it's open. There will be a few other opportunities for hot springs and warm pools along the route as well.
Ok, here are some estimate for you.
ION was only available 2/14-16, so I changed the order a bit so that you could go there if you like.
ION is $346 for the night, and it's included in the prices below
- 8 Nights, all private bathrooms: $1296
- 8 Nights, 4 nights with shared bathrooms: $1184
- If you wanted to go to Hotel Ranga (popular 4-star hotel along South), add $154 to those prices
Ok so prices just are for total hotel stay correct?
I will get some rental car prices as well, but wanted to give you those prices to start. Without Ion, it would be about $230 less for each of the options.
Rental car for 2/14 (morning) to 2/22 (early afternoon):
- Compact, 2WD, winter tires: $262
- SUV, 4WD, winter tires: $477
ok if like to go with the ION as well as Hotel Ranga
Would you like the accommodations with all private rooms? or some with shared facilities?
Once you are ready, you can add your payment details here:
I will use that for the service fee and to make all the reservations for accommodations and the car rental.
What is the total price we are looking at?
- $1450 for Accommodations with private bathrooms (including ION and Hotel Ranga)
- $250 kimkim service fee (plus about $13 in processing)
- $262 for compact car (or $477 for SUV)
Total: $1975 with compact car, $2190 with SUV
and then you will proviedo suggestions of places to visit and eat which we can pay for while we are there?
Yes, in addition to making all the reservations, I'll provide detailed day-by-day info for all the things you can do and see each day and restaurant recommendations for all the areas you visit. You would pay for meals and gas on your own.
I can start making the reservations as soon as you have entered your information.
ok wonderful i'll get it entered shortly
Just put payment info in
Thanks, I see it has been added. I will be away from my computer a bit, but will make all the arrangements for you this weekend.
Hi, I misquoted you originally, I did not include the final night in Reykjavik, which is $160 for the room with the private bathroom. I will make all the reservations now for places that have free cancellation, and can make any changes if you want some adjustments.
Also, the room at ION is $346 for the non-refundable rate, or $385 for free cancellation up to 2 weeks prior. Do you have a preference?
346 is good as we are going so it's cool
Hi, sorry I actually didn't make the mistake the first time. The $160 was accounted for in the original number (I had a backup hotel in Reykjavik also listed the same night as ION).
Ok, I will reserve the non-refundable rate for you that night.
Hi, I have also just charged the service fee.
What time are your flights for arrival and departure? For the car rental, I will need the Date of birth of the driver and the flight number (in case there are delays, they can get updates).
Thanks. You'll have plenty of time for the Blue Lagoon on the last day on the way to the airport. Do you have a preference for which package you would like? bluelagoon.com/blue-lagoon-spa/prices-and-packages/
Will you be the driver?
we will do premium package for 70
ok, perfect. You have the option of a reservation at the LAVA restaurant with premium package do you want that, or would you prefer to eat in Reykjavik for brunch/lunch?
we will eat there
Question. I saw Iceland has a professional hockey league. do you know much about it and could we squeeze in a game if possible. Also are there good places to ice skate outside? Could be in any of the towns
Hi, I will look into a few options for you and get back to you with the details.
Wonderful thank you
would there be time to work this in:
Yes, you can stop by there while you are touring the Golden Circle. There is also the "secret Lagoon" not too far away from there, which is also a place I would recommend.
I am planning to make the Blue Lagoon reservation for 11am and the lava restaurant reservation for 1pm. Then you can leave around 2pm to arrive at KEF around 2:30, which should give you 2 hours for your flight. Does that timing work for you? (the other option is 9am start time, 10am is fully booked)
let's do 9am
Ok, at 9am the total price for the two of you will be $178 USD, I'll make the reservation now.
Just wanted to check when the full itinerary for our trip will be ready as we are getting close to the date.
Hi, sorry for the delay, I will finalize it this evening and tomorrow and send it to you soon with all the details.
Hi, here you go https://www.kimkim.com/tp/zrb24wXa Please take a look and let me know if you have any questions.
How close is Vik to Katla?
It's about 20 miles as the crow flies. The biggest concern with Katla is that it hasn't erupted in about 100 years (a big one), it's not as predictable as the others. Since it's under the glaciers, the biggest concerns with it are flooding in some of the regions east of Vik.
Wow may have to be extra cautious that day haha
