“We are planning a trip to Scotland with a stop over in Iceland for 4 or 5 days. We don't know if we will see Iceland on the way to Scotland or on the way home. We are a group of 8 retired Canadians. 4 ladies and 4 gentlemen. We would like to try the hot springs.”

We are planning on a September 2017 trip.
Hi, happy to have one of our local experts put something together for you. Great that you will have 4-5 days, as that's enough time to make a few tours/trips out of Reykjavik and visit the hot springs (whether Blue Lagoon or another thermal pool). Just so we know, are there any other activities you're interested in, and can we also help arrange your accommodation?
Yes, we would like to know about accommodations too and we would like to see it all, but would take your advice as to what to see.
Great - is there a certain level of accommodation you'd prefer? Also, as Iceland can be expensive, if you know your approximate budget that will help us tailor our recommendations
Because we are all retired we don't want to pay top price but we would like nice places to stay. Not sure about budget but probably about $2500.
Hi nice to meet you.
My name is Bjorn and I am a Iceland travel expert at kimkim. I am born and raised in Iceland and I know my country well by experience.
I am very happy to assist you in planning your Iceland adventure!
Thank you for all the information. I will start by putting together a quote for you and we will then go from there and work on it until you are 100% happy with it. I will send you the quote in the next few days. Do not hesitate to drop me a line in the mean time if you have any questions or comments.
Just to let you know that 2 of us ladies have limited walking endurance and possibly one of the men. I have had both knees replaced and my friend has had both hips replaced and has a heart condition.
Hi, thank you for these additional information. That´s good to know.
Here is what your trip could look like:
Total price per person: 980 USD
Airport transport by coach from/to the airport to/from your hotel in Reykjavik.
4 nights at a 3* good quality hotel in down town Reykjavik. Breakfast included.
Golden Circle day tour in a small bus and a soak at the Geothermal Secret Lagoon.
Snæfellsnes Peninsula day tour in a small bus.
Blue Lagoon standard admission, towel and transport.
Note that this quote is for after September 15th. Before the 15th is still high season and accommodation is much more expensive.
Please take a look at this and let me know what you think and if you have any questions. The tours can of course be changed to something else if there is something else you would like to see or do (price might vary). Let me know if you would like more suggestions and I am happy to send you some.
We are getting together with our travel group next week (Sept. 9) and I will show this to them. Thank you so much for your prompt response and I will let you know if there is anything else they wish to see or do.
Hi Bjorn. The other thing that we would like to see is the Northern Lights. Is this something that could be added to our package or should we do this on our own?
Yes of course.
Adding a Northern Lights hunt tour by a small bus the price per person will be 1.060 USD.
If there is no sightings on the first one you will get another tour for free.
Can you tell me the difference between your tour for the Northern Light and the Reykjavik Excursions tour. Their's is $65 Canadian.
The difference is that the tour I suggested here is gone in a small bus with max 19 people but the Reykjavik Excursion tour is gone by coach with more people. We do also recommend that tour, it just depends on what people prefer.
Thank you. I will let my friends know and get back to you.
Hi Bjorn. Can you tell us the name of the hotel we would be staying at? Also we were thinking is there a house we could rent for 4 o 5 nights?
The hotel I had in mind for you is called Skuggi and it is a nice, new hotel at a great location. I´m not sure about a house but I will check for you.
Hi Bjorn. This past weekend the eight of us got together and discussed our trip. One of the group has been looking into renting us a house, so we would like to know the cost of the excursions with you, without accommodations. We would also like to know if there can be two things to see in one day. We would also like to see the Black Falls/beach and Langiokull Ice Caves and Glacier. We are thinking about coming to Iceland around the 20th of September, 2017.
Do you have any particular two things in mind to see on the same day? Most day tours take most of the day.
We had thought about doing the Ice Caves, but upon reading all about it my arthritic friend does not think she could do it and probably I could not either. We will skip that and stay with the ones you suggested and the Northern lights. Would we see the black beach on our way to one of the others?
With the tours I suggested the price per person would be 680 USD.
None of those tours include the Black beach of Reynisfjara. If you want to see that you would do a South Shore tour.
If you would like to add that we could see if you could go to the Blue Lagoon either on your arrival or departure day (depends on your flight times). Would you like to consider that? There would also be a possibility to skip the Snæfellsnes peninsula and do the South Shore instead.
Hi Bjorn We have had some discussion with a few of us and we have checked into flights with Iceland Air. We would arrive early in the a.m. on Thursday September 21st around 6:30 and were thinking of maybe doing Blue Lagoon on that day. We would decrease our stay to 3 nights instead of 4 and continue onto Scotland on Sunday, Sept. 24. What would the cost be including accommodation? Which do you think is better to see, the Snaefellsnes Peninsula or the South Shore?
Hi, the total price per person would be 965 (Rates are subject to change due to currency fluctuation or unexpected government taxation and fees.)
Included in that:
- Airport transport by coach.
- 3 nights in a double room at Skuggi Hotel. Breakfast included.
- Blue Lagoon standard admission, towel, and transport.
- Northern Lights hunt by bus.
- Golden Circle and the Secret Lagoon by a small bus.
- Snæfellsnes Peninsula day tour by a small bus.
Thanks Bjorn. I will pass on the information to the gang. It sounds great to me.
Hi Bjorn Well, there are 8 of us coming to Iceland, the one couple found out it is not reasonable to go to Iceland first, then Ireland and then Scotland. We have booked an apartment in Reykjavik for the 3 nights. This trip is working out to be a bit more expensive than we thought, so we are trying to cut cost somewhere. By renting the apartment, we save quite a bit which we can use to buy groceries or eat out. We will be taking the tours with you and would like to know if we could do Blue Lagoon on the morning we arrive. We arrive at 6:40 am and thought about going to Blue Lagoon, having breakfast and staying there for a few hours. How long is the tour to Blue Lagoon? We would do the other two tours the following days and our flight to Glasgow leaves at 7:30 am. We will need to be at the airport by 5:30 to 06:00 am. Does this work for you?
Hi, it would be possible to do the Blue Lagoon in the morning of arrival.
This is how your plan would look like, please confirm it is correct.
Flybus to Reykjavik via the Blue Lagoon in the morning
Northern Lights hunt by mini bus in the evening.
Snæfellsnes Peninsula by coach (we will have to do this tour this day since it is only done 2x per week and is done at this day)
Golden Circle by mini bus + Secret Lagoon
Flybus to airport in the morning.
Note that the Flybus does not drop off at apartments that are not on their drop off list, so I would have to get the apartments location to check were the nearest drop off place is for you.
Price per pers: 680 USD
(Rates are subject to change due to currency fluctuation or unexpected government taxation and fees.)
The itinerary looks good but for the Peninsula you said coach, is that with other people on the coach? We are staying at the Einholt 2, Reykjavik, 105. On the map it shows up on Storholt. Can the Flybus pick us up at the apartment to take us to the airport?
Hi Bjorn How long will our stay be at Blue lagoon?
Bjorn: We would like to know if the vehicle we will be touring in, will just have the eight of us and driver/guide? We prefer private tours when it comes to going to Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Golden circle. Going to Blue Lagoon it does not matter if it is a mini bus. Please let me know.
Hi, the mini bus takes up to 19 pers and it is a open tour that others can book. Then it depends on how many book for the tour. If you want a private tour the price will go up a bit. If you want I can quote you for the private tour, then we have the option on renting a private mini bus or private Super Jeep, the Super Jeep is more expensive, witch one would you prefer?
Can you get me a price for a private tour for the 3 tours. We don't need the super Jeep. If we go on the mini bus to Blue Lagoon, how do you decide when to leave? We have had some bad experiences having to wait for others before leaving a location.
The Blue Lagoon bus leaves from the Airport at designated times and again from the Blue Lagoon at designated times. If you want private tour, the bus would pick you up at the airport and take you to the Blue Lagoon and wait there. The time in the Blue Lagoon is usually 3 hours and the bus would be paid for 6 hours, that should cover the time at the Lagoon and to Reykjavik
The other tours can be done as a private as well, but there will be no specific guide, only the driver and we will decide the places where he should stop at.
The price per person with the Blue Lagoon transport, Snæfellsnes Peninsula and Golden Circle (Secret Lagoon admission incl.) tours as a private tours would be 970 USD.
Hi Bjorn. We would like to book the tours with you, so what do we have to do next?
Hi Bjorn. For cancellation insurance purposes we, each couple need to pay their own. Is this possible? You never know what is going to happen between now and then. Thanks.
Hi, Alex here again. No problem - I split the payment up into four equal instalments of $1970 each. To have each couple submit payment, you can either share your login details with them so they can access this conversation and submit payment, or they can share their card details with you, and you can submit payment on their behalf...
Let me know if that works and if I can help along the way
We have decided to go for the cheaper way to see the sights, which Bjorn said is $680 USD. Is that OK?
Hi, I updated the per person price, which is now reflected in 4 installments. Bjorn will standby to follow up once payment is confirmed. Thanks!
