Jordan Adventures

Traveler visited Jordan in July 2017

“Petra by night, wadi rumi desert tour, less touristy the better. Long time at all these sites. Camping in a bedouin site if feasible. Nature and hot springs. Seeing historical sites as well.

Less travel time.

Possible to start from Tel Aviv.

I am a solo traveler, who is up for any adventure and new experience.”

Summary of the trip planning conversation

Below are some useful excerpts from the trip planning conversation

My name is Bianca. My name is Bianca. I am based in Wadi Rum and would like to help you to plan your Jordan trip.

Coming from Tel Aviv the easiest and fastest way to travel to Southern Jordan is by flying from Tel Aviv to Eilat and cross the border there.

Based on your information and flight options, I put together the following itinerary for your trip to Jordan.

day 1 - 10th of July
After crossing the border, you will be picked up by your driver who takes you to Wadi Musa. Check in to your accommodation and spend the rest of your day roaming around Modern World Wonder Petra. At night you have the opportunity to visit Petra by Night.
Overnight stay in a B&B at a scenic location close to the Petra entrance.

day 2 - 11th of July
Another day to explore Petra and visit places you did not visit yet. These are less visited places.
Overnight stay in a B&B at a scenic location close to the Petra entrance.

day 3 - 12th of July
In the early morning, your driver will take you to Wadi Rum for a full day jeep tour around the desert. During this day you will visit some of the most famous sites.
Overnight stay in Wadi Rum desert

day 4 - 13th of July
After breakfast, you return to Rum village on the back of a camel. A great opportunity to take some more amazing pictures. Once back in the village you meet with your driver who takes you back to the border.

Let me know if this trip plan would work for you. If so, then I will work out a detailed trip plan for you.

Warm greetings from Wadi Rum,

Bianca

Hey Bianca!

Is this a group setting with others or more solo? And is there a guide that will tell me about Petra. I know the night tour is kinda on your own. And how much is the cost of the trip?

And I arrive in Tel Aviv on July 10th at 10 am. I can get a flight to eliat easily. So what time do people normally cross the border. And since I am crossing the border how do visas work? And if I stay more than two nights it's a cheaper visa correct?

Bianca Abma - Jordan Travel Specialist

Thanks for your messages. Hereby some more detailed information and a price quote for the trip.

As you arrive in Tel Aviv at 10 AM you can catch the 12:25 PM Arkia flight to Eilat. This flight takes 50 minutes. A taxi transfer from the airport to the border crossing takes about 15 minutes.

Crossing the border normally takes anywhere between 15 and 45 minutes. Assuming you will be traveling with a US passport, you can obtain a visa on arrival at the Jordanian border. You need to fill out a manifest (easy questions) and afterward they stamp the visa in your passport. As you plan to stay 3 nights in Jordan and visit Petra, your visa will be for free. The 10 JD departure tax will also be waived.

The drive from to border to Petra takes about 2 hours. This means you will arrive in Petra in the late afternoon. I recommend relaxing the rest of the afternoon and start your Petra visit by attending Petra by Night.

The next 2 days you can visit Petra. You can hire a guide from the Petra visitor center for about 3 hours (50 JD). You will be guided from the visitor center, through the Siq, passed the Treasury, all the way down until the Basin restaurant in the old city of Petra. Alternatively, if you have an iPhone, I can recommend an offline guiding app.

Spending an extra day in Petra means your Wadi Rum tour will start at the 13th. As we (Wadi Rum Nomads) already have another solo traveler arriving that day, you can share your tour in Wadi Rum. The next day, the 14th of July, you return to Israel.

Altogether you will be mostly on your own during this trip. Only in Wadi Rum, you will share the tour. Still, you will be in good hands. We work with reliable drivers, Jolanda will be your host in Wadi Musa and here in Wadi Rum our team will make you feel at home. Would that work for you?

Expect to pay around 500 USD for transfers, overnight stay in Wadi Musa and the tour including an overnight stay in Wadi Rum. Add another 109 USD for entrance fees and Petra by Night. Some meals, tipping and souvenirs are excluded. Also excluded are the costs of reaching the Wadi Araba border from Tel Aviv as you will need to arrange this yourself.

Let me know if this would work for you, then I can work out your detailed trip plan.

Traveler

Does this include my accommodation in Petra? And I would just like to spend the Petra by night and Petra by day there. I can leave that evening from Petra to wadi rum. What about accommodations there?

Thank you.

Bianca Abma - Jordan Travel Specialist

Yes, it includes an overnight stay in Wadi Musa. Wadi Musa is the village next to the ancient site of Petra. At you day of arrival, 10th of July, you can visit Petra by Night.

For the best experience in Wadi Rum, it is best to start there in the morning, do a full day tour and then stay overnight. For your overnight stay, you can choose between staying overnight in a Bedouin camp or the adventure of sleeping outside in a 'cave' more an overhanging rock that protects from sun, rain and wind. At night you can sit around the fire, learn more about Bedouin life or simply enjoy the silence of the desert and the amazing starry night sky. Please note that at the cave no bathroom facilities are available.

Let me know what you prefer so that I can work out your detailed trip plan.

Traveler

So the rate is including all hotels?

Camping sounds cool. Have you done the camp and the rock?

So can you reiterate the breakdown of the schedule again one more time? Sorry!

Bianca Abma - Jordan Travel Specialist

Yes, the price includes all overnight stays. I have done the sleeping outside in a 'cave' many times. If you like adventure and wish to have a unique experience this is definitely something for you.

Hereafter you find the suggested trip plan again.
