Goriška Brda—a popular section of the Primorska Wine Region— is just 37 miles (60 km) from Postojna, making it easy to see both in the same trip. The most convenient way to complete the journey is by car—rental or private transfer—which takes about one hour. If you have time to add a few more spots to your trip, you might be interested in this 7-day itinerary that includes nearby Triglav National Park.

Other options include the regional bus and train. Both leave from Goriška Brda’s transport hub, Nova Gorica. The bus is straightforward and direct with a 1.5-hour travel time. The train, on the other hand, requires at least one connection—usually in Sežana—and takes about two hours.

By Rental Car or Private Transfer

Duration: 1 hour

The most convenient and fastest way to reach Postojna from Goriška Brda is by rental car or private transfer. From Nova Gorica—the region’s transport hub—you’ll follow expressway H4 until the town of Razdrto. From here you’ll connect to highway E61 until Postojna.

The drive is very scenic, following rocky hills with many wineries in the valley below—to the west of H4, in particular. Ajdovščina is a small, picturesque town and a good stopping point for a coffee. Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle are popular tourist attractions worth the visit.

By Bus

Duration: 1.5 hours

Although less convenient than driving, Slovenia’s regional buses are reliable and budget-friendly. From Nova Gorica, there are several departures available throughout the day, arriving in Postojna in about 1.5 hours. The bus takes the same route as driving, so you won’t miss the scenic views.

By Train

Duration: 2 hours

The slowest option is the regional train at two hours. Again, you’ll leave from Nova Gorica and arrive in Postojna after at least one connection. Most likely, you’ll connect in the town of Sežana. Some departures, however, require an additional connection in Divača.
