Clemens was very patient and helpful in the early planning which started with a trip during for Advent and Christmas Markets that ended up as an early spring trip to Munich, Leipzig, and Berlin while visiting our son who is attending University of Leipzig. The private tours and restaurant suggestions from Clemens worked out perfectly. Boris was an excellent guide and provided a private tour of Munich on our first full morning and then on a day trip to Neuschwanstein castle. The side trips to a small countryside village on the way and another visit to Oberammagau (where Boris selected a great lunch spot) were as enjoyable as the Castle visit. The plazas and market were full of life with a great mix of people, we felt like 3 nights in Munich was the perfect amount of time, and the City did not feel as big as we expected. The intercity train travel was planned perfectly by Clemens and the travel to Leipzig and then Berlin were enjoyable and scenic. Our stay in Leipzig was also outstanding, it felt like a smaller version of Munich, an old walled city, with great historic buildings, beautiful parks, and great energy and life-and fewer tourists. Our timing coincided with opening day at the local and historic Sheibenholtz horse racing track where we were able to secure a table for our family and spend a great afternoon with a big crowd! Two days in Berlin were barely enough to scratch the surface, but we had a great time putting the City transit pass to use travelling to a couple of different corners of the City including a trip to Sansoucci Palace in Potsdam-which is really more of a massive public park with multiple palaces, vineyards, and other interesting features-wish we had more time in both Berlin and Potsdam. Hotels and the included breakfast were all very good and well located. Our dinner for our last night at Katz Orange, recommended by Clemens was definitely a highlight. Somehow we were not aware of the great bakeries and cheese that were available everywhere and we enjoyed! We had excellent support from Clemens and team when we had some questions during the trip, and one small snafu when a local guide cancelled a tour last minute-it was very well handled by KimKim.

Hotel Reviews
art'otel Berlin Mitte powered by Radisson Hotels
Berlin

This hotel was a bit of a mixed bag. The front desk service and the breakfast quality and experience were top notch. The exterior and neighborhood are a bit cold and unwelcoming at first, but after a couple of days we realized that it is very well located with ez access to the train lines which is important in Berlin. The rooms were tight, and the lobby area was not comfortable. They do have what could be a very nice open air courtyard, but we found it a bit dirty and unattended by hotel staff-a potentially nice space that seems to be utilized as a place to smoke.

Authenticity & Character
looks like an office building from the outside-the canal side of the building is warmer and more charming but feels like a missed opportunity as access is not clear it is utilized as a back door
Location
close to multiple train lines and the river and canal
Staff
were very helpful with charting out travel within the city and utilization of the City Pass. The folks running the breakfast room were excellent.
Cleanliness & Comfort

Excellent service, very clean and well appointed with an excellent breakfast in a nice dining room. The rooms were on the small side, especially the bathrooms. The location across from the main train station-which is undergrowing significant construction- was very convenient, but is in a bit of a gritty area (were were a bit surprised in general of the level of graffitti and litter in both Munich and Berlin.

high energy tour guide Maggie did a great job, and mixed in some of her personal political feelings. We had a large group of 20+ and so the tour path followed a standard route and felt a bit touristy, but were did feel like we got great interaction with the tour guide between stops.

The drive through the countryside and side visits to a local villages were the best part. Boris seemed to specifically travel on secondary roads for a good portion of the trip. The trip to the castle itself was very good, but definitely touristy. I would still recommend it, but the side trips were essential, otherwise the 9 hour day is not worth it just to visit Neuschwanstein.

Quality of Experience
Great scenery on the way.

Guides, Drivers and Staff
Boris was prompt, kept us on schedule, flexible, and full of history and suggestions.

Thank you so much Michael for this incredibly thoughtful and detailed review. It was a real pleasure helping plan this trip for your family, especially after it evolved from Christmas markets into a spring journey through Munich, Leipzig and Berlin around your son’s studies in Leipzig.

I’m very happy to hear that Boris made such a strong impression. He is one of those guides who truly understands how to balance history, storytelling and local charm, especially on longer touring days like Neuschwanstein. I also loved reading that Leipzig became such a highlight for you. It is still one of Germany’s most underrated cities and exactly the kind of place that rewards travelers who enjoy authentic atmosphere, culture and local energy over crowds.

Your comments about the pacing, train connections, restaurant recommendations and hotel locations are especially appreciated, because we put a lot of care into making the logistics feel smooth and effortless behind the scenes.

And yes… Germany’s bakeries and cheese selection tend to surprise many visitors in the best possible way.

Thank you again for trusting me and the team with your trip. I hope your family creates many more memories together in Europe, and next time we will make sure you have extra time in Berlin and Potsdam.

Wishing you all the best,
Clemens

The on site staff was exceptional and kind, however the sunset camel ride was disappointing. They young men led us along the furthest left of the Sahara while other groups mounted dunes. They did not seem to want to stop so when I finally asked to actually stop for the sunset they did. By that time we were not near the gorgeous orange sand. We expected them to be the experts when it comes to sunset in the Sahara, but would have missed the experience if I had not intervened at the last minute! We had to walk from the well-worn truck track to the dunes to get a few photos. Again, disappointing.

We couldn't do the first trip there without Big Ben, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and Stonehenge. First day we had a great 3.5 hour driving tour in a London Black Cab. Our driver John was outstanding and gave us so much history and insight. And the next day, John was our driver again as we ventured out into the countryside to Stonehenge and Windsor. A 2.4 hour walking tour with our guide Delianne the next day gave us the best of the city center. And Delianne guided us to the Red Lion afterward for a pint like Churchill used to indulge when Parliament got too much for him. Next day was the Tower of London (with a special ceremony occurring while we were there) followed by the Borough Market for the local food scene, our guide Tom King was great for this foodie experience. The British Museum and a dinner at Gordon Ramsey's 1890 Restaurant rounded out our final day in London before heading to Dublin for a quick stop. Dublin gave us a walking tour of the city with our lovely guide Mydie, followed by a tour of St. Patrick's Cathedral. And a first visit to Dublin must include a tour of the Jameson Distillery and the Guinness Brewery.
A lot to fit into a one week trip, but Kateryna gave us a great experience with lots of hightlights and memories.

Kimkim has done it again — Siena helped my friend and me put together a bucket-list trip to Greece, including Athens, Paros, and Santorini. Siena did a fantastic job listening to what we were looking for and balancing the different paces and interests in our group. Highlights included a food tour in Athens, a cooking class on Paros, and a guided hike from Fira to Oia in Santorini. We saw and did so much that I would never have found on my own, and I'm so grateful for Siena's knowledge and connection to local operators in each place. It made me feel like a more informed, more responsible visitor.

What really impressed me this trip was the communication from the kimkim team. Two instances stand out: the very first morning, the driver scheduled to pick us up at the airport marked us as no-shows and left without us. The kimkim team called us immediately to verify that we had, in fact, arrived safely in Greece. They told us to take a taxi and send the receipt in for reimbursement — the money hit my bank account just a couple days later. We also ran into some bad weather that forced us to change plans on one of the islands. Lea and the team were on it — they kept up with notifications from the local guides and called proactively with suggestions about how to restructure our schedule. Knowing that someone was looking out for us brought me a lot of peace of mind.

This is my second trip with kimkim, and it won't be my last!

I enjoyed this hike more than anything else we did on Santorini! Lilly was a wonderful guide, and I really enjoyed talking to her about how Santorini's history and how tourism has impacted the island. And the hike itself was a wonderful way to see "behind the scenes" of Santorini. For someone like me easily overwhelmed by Fira and Oia, getting outside of the towns was a welcome change. Walking through a volcanic landscape is a very cool experience, and I'm grateful that I got to see a different side (sometimes quite literally) of the island. With the right shoes and plenty of water, I found the level of physical activity very doable. It felt good to do something so active.

Santorini

I very much appreciate this tour — I learned a great deal that provided context for the rest of my time on Santorini, and our guides brought us to places on the island I would not have visited otherwise. In my opinion, the villages we visited were more beautiful than Oia, and we had the space to actually enjoy them. The only reason I didn't give this tour five stars is because it felt a little bit like our guides were trying to sell us on Santorini. They'd guide us to different picture spots and ask if we liked them, for instance, and it felt a little bit like we were on the spot to have a particular reaction. There wasn't really an attempt to find out what we were most interested in or what we already knew; there was a script, and they were sticking to it. It just made me feel a little conflicted to see how much the tour pandered to the social media influencer from abroad. I'm pretty sure our guide convinced the staff at Akrotiri to stay open a little late for us, for instance, which I felt horrible about when I realized it. Like I said, I'm so glad we had this tour, and I would definitely recommend it. I just left it feeling a little bit sad and kind of guilty about how my presence impacted these traditional villages and archeological sites.

We never got too much at once, and she built on her explanations throughout the tour to connect all the dots. I was so impressed, and I learned a ton. The trip went very well and the planning process was interactive and smooth. Veronica was able to include some Spanish activities that our kids (who learn the language at school) were able to engage with and for the most part adapted the tours and itinerary to suit our family of 5. Really the biggest challenge was often fitting in food around the tours and activities - some tours started very early or went into the middle of the afternoon which was a bit of a challenge for our kids who are used to regular meals. All-in-all we were able to work around this though, and everyone enjoyed the trip. Veronica included some things that we never would have done ourselves (kayaking in Celestun, snorkelling with turtles in Akumel) and these were some highlights of the trip. The team gave great restaurant recommendations too! The Fives in Puerto Morales was an awesome way to end the trip, nice and relaxing. Some callouts for specific guides, Isaac in Celestun really engaged with the kids, our driver in Merida (Victor) was great, especially helping our eldest daughter practice her Spanish, the bike tour guides around the Cenotes in Chemuyil was awesome too - super chill.

The Fives Oceanfront Puerto Morelos
Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo

We had a great spacious two bedroom and two bathroom room with views of the pool and beach. It was a little strange to have a kitchenette but nothing in there to use except drinks in fridge and coffee. We couldn't even find a bottle opener to open the beer. The staff were all super friendly and we enjoyed being able to use the resort facilities but also walk into town to explore. The staff worked hard to clean the beach of the seaweed each day and their efforts are to be commended!

Hotel Merida
Mérida

The room had bugs (mosquitos at night, and found several dead bees on the floor), the bathroom was in need of a refresh and had a sewerage smell, and overall the room was a tight space for a family of 5. The included breakfast only started at 7:30 and wasn't actually part of the hotel, the options were extremely limited - with the restaurant wanting to charge more for coffee with milk (only black coffee was "included"). We only went there once for the 3 nights we stayed and made alternate arrangements on the other days. The pool looked quite green & cloudy, and not safe to swim in, it often had trash floating on top.

Authenticity & Character
The hacienda-style building/courtyard was nice.

The location in central Merida was great. Everything was walkable.

The staff were a bit rude and gruff.

The hotels location was apparently right on a red-light district street, and the family room we were in had no natural light. The in-room spa was cool though - the kids enjoyed that. The breakfast was average.

The kids were able to help make the tortillas and really enjoyed doing this and then eating what they had made. Seeing how it was cooked was also great. We were so happy that we were able to do the lunch in the community first prior to visiting the cenote as otherwise it would have made for a much longer/harder day with the kids.

Uxmal is a wonderful site but unfortunately the guide we had for that was not a great fit for our family. They didn't engage the kids as well as other guides during our time in Mexico. Thankfully when we went to the chocolate museum they switched up to an english speaking guide rather than Spanish which is what had previously been arranged. The kids were more engaged here and enjoyed seeing the different huts with information about the cacao beans, the mayan experience and also the animals.

Quality of Experience
Uxmal tour was just not as engaging for us because we couldn't connect with the tour guide. Complete opposite to the chocolate museum where the guide was great with our tired, hungry and hot children.

I’m so happy to hear that the trip went well overall and that so many of the experiences became highlights for your family, especially Celestún, Akumal, and the cenote bike tour. It’s wonderful to hear that Penelope, Evan, and Margaret were able to engage with the Spanish-speaking activities and enjoy those hands-on moments — that’s exactly the kind of immersive experience we hope to create.

I’ll also be sure to pass along your kind words to Isaac, Victor, and the cenote cycling team — it means a lot, and I know they’ll be really happy to hear it.

I really appreciate your feedback around pacing and meal timing as well. This is incredibly valuable for us when designing family itineraries, and I’ll definitely keep it in mind going forward to better balance activity timing with mealtimes.

Thank you again for trusting us with your trip and for all your thoughtful insights throughout the process. It was a real pleasure planning this for you and your family.

Warmly,
Veronica

Kate chose a wonderful hotel/BnB in the Lake District for us: Cedar Manor in Windermere. We did a 10 Lakes day tour there (another great Mark!) and our hotel did the BEST afternoon tea…. Great hiking in the area, too.
Forgot to mention that Kate had arranged a private driver to meet us at Heathrow and get us to King’s Cross for our train after our trans-Atlantic flight. Lovely way to start our trip to England!

The Across Portugal staff was in regular contact with us throughout the trip, which was reassuring, even though we had no issues. Our guide/driver around Lisbon, Samir Castro, provided excellent service, was a wealth of information, and recommended terrific restaurants. The hotel in Lisbon, the Heritage Avenida Liberdade, was our favorite - historic with lots of character, very comfortable, and the service, breakfast, and location was perfect. Our walking tour guide in Lisbon provided a great balance of history and culture and answered all our questions. Porto was a beautiful old city and our guide/driver Mr. Ivo and walking tour guide, Sarah, were very proud to show us the highlights of their city. The Douro Valley was gorgeous and our gourmet lunch and wine tasting at Pacheca winery were a highlight of the trip. Our second week in the Algarve was very relaxing at the Pine Cliffs resort. We also really enjoyed the Algarve winery visit at Morgado do Quintao. In summary, we had an excellent time in Portugal, learning about the history and culture, and enjoying the beautiful landscapes and delicious food and wine.

We just got back from an amazing Australia trip, definitely one of our favorite trips together! My 10-year-old son and I try to do a special trip together every year because it’s such great quality time, and this one was really unforgettable. Paula did an incredible job planning everything — super responsive, organized, thoughtful, and easy to work with throughout the whole process.

The trip had such a fun mix of experiences packed into a relatively short amount of time: Bondi Beach mornings, Taronga Zoo, the Ian Potter Children’s WILD PLAY Garden, Darling Quarter, rainforest adventures in Cairns, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, the Cairns Lagoon, Uluru sunrise, and the Great Ocean Road. We had epic weather the entire trip and it was so cool getting to see all of the animals — kangaroos, koalas, capybaras, penguins, cassowaries, and even wildlife out in nature during some of the tours.

One thing that surprised us was how amazing the food and coffee culture is in Australia — it honestly felt a bit like Europe in the best way!

Overall, everything ran smoothly and we made such special memories together. So grateful to Paula and KimKim for helping make it happen!

Our guide, Joanna (? Yellow hat) was very informative & moved at a good pace. The scenery & stops amazing. The full day tour is very long though & you do return to Avignon for lunch. Be aware. You will see great views though.

We can not say enough good about Mathilda our guide! So knowledgeable about the vineyards & the community. This was a highlight of our France trip. What an awesome activity~Peter made sure our bikes were right for us & we had what we needed b4 starting AND he sells wine at his bike shop?!? Love it! The bikes do have pañier bags on the back so no need for backpacks.

Hi Carol,
Merci beaucoup for this amazing review! I'm glad you had a fantastic girls' trip to France and enjoyed the tours. I will make sure each provider, driver and guide hears about it too :) Provence and Burgundy are highlights and the bike tour is an amazing way to visit the regions. And I note your feedback about the Pope Palace as well.
I wish you all the best in your future travels!
Best,

This trip was a good combination of exercise, scenic beauty, and cultural history. Our guides Robi and Garon were enthusiastic and helpful. The sea water clarity and blue colors was remarkable. The water quality is an asset that needs protection for the ecosystem and the local economy. The people were friendly and the hotel accommodations were very good. I recommend this vacation trip.

I enjoyed three very full days in Madrid and four mofe relaxing days in Barcelona arranged by Hector Molina at Espiritu Travel. The hotel in Madrid, las Meninas, was small and very attentive, located in the center of the historic sector. I had excellent guides, Geza for a walking tour of the historic sector, who was very well-informed about history and current affairs in Spain, and Linda for the Prado, who did an amazing job of structuring our time in this extensive collection to cover my interests, making sure to bring me to Velazquez’ Las Meninas, and pointing out that Picasso, whose museum I visited later in Barcelona, spent several months deconstructing this painting. The hotel in Barcelona , Hotel Regina, was even more apt, being off the Placa Catalyuna at the top of las Ramblas, and close to transportation to all parts of the city. The guide, Adrian, drove a small group of us around the city, including the 1930s Olympic venue at Montjuic, a very informative stop at the Gothic cathedral (whose elaborate front was actually added in the 1900s), and arranging for us to have audio guides to the Sagrada Familia.
