Fly fishing on the Río Maullín, Puerto Montt

Begin your journey with hotel pick-up from Puerto Montt and take in the beautiful scenery of Chile's Lake District as your guide drives you to the Río Maullín. Once you arrive at the riverbank, your guide may help you onto the small boat. Then, you'll likely take a short boat ride to a prime fishing spot where your guide will provide you with a rod and offer instructions to help you catch fish. After a few hours on the water, you can enjoy a picnic before your guide takes you back to your hotel in Puerto Montt.

Embark on a thrilling fishing adventure with hotel pick-up from Puerto Montt. From there, your guide may drive you about 13 miles (21 km) toward the southwest along paved and unpaved roads. This drive is an excellent opportunity to relax and enjoy the views of Chile's scenic Lake District. 

Once you arrive on the banks of the beautiful Río Maullín, you may board a small boat, which your guide(s) will likely steer for about 8 miles (13 km) while you take in the silent forests that line the riverbanks and the river, teaming with local wildlife and fauna. When you reach the prime fishing location, perhaps your guide will provide fishing instructions and educate you about using the gear. Although it's most common to use fly fishing rods, your guide might suggest using spinner rods depending on the water conditions. 

Next, you may try to catch fish, including brown trout, rainbow trout, and Chilean salmon. Note that you cannot take the fish off the boat as the local laws only permit fishing on a catch-and-release basis. When you get hungry, you may take a break from fishing to enjoy a provided picnic lunch. After a few hours of fishing, your guide will return you to your hotel in Puerto Montt.
