Experience the Peruvian Jungle's beauty with a night in a cabana, guided walks, and boat excursions to explore wildlife.

Overview

In the morning, you will begin your day by transferring to Lima Airport in order to catch your flight to Puerto Maldonado. It is important to ensure that you arrive at Puerto Maldonado Airport by 1 pm to stay on schedule. Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado Airport, you will be greeted by an agent who will be waiting to assist you. The agent will then accompany you on a short drive to the local office for luggage storage. Here, all of your extra luggage will be securely locked away in a safe, providing peace of mind and convenience for your upcoming boat travel.

You'll begin your adventure with a scenic boat ride to Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge. The journey along the Madre de Dios River is a fantastic opportunity to take in the beauty of the river and get a glimpse of what lies ahead. Upon arrival, your lodge blending with the surrounding nature will welcome you. After a quick briefing, settle into your charming cabaña and enjoy lunch served in the main dining room.

In the afternoon, accompanied by your guide, you're free to choose from 14 different excursions offered at the lodge. For a great start, it is highly recommended to choose the guided walk along the trail system leading into the natural area of Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica. This will introduce you to the Amazon basin's environment, where you'll see impressive trees like shihuahuaco and the unique strangler fig. Keep your eyes peeled for exotic birds and insects, enhancing your experience with nature's diverse wonders.

As twilight descends, embark on a twilight river excursion. This guided afternoon boat ride on the Madre de Dios River will allow you to witness the transition from day to night in the heart of the Amazon. Experience the shift in animal activity as daytime creatures give way to those specially adapted for the night. Your guide will help you spot various species, such as nightjars, owls, capybaras, and up to three different kinds of caimans while sharing intriguing facts about their habits.

After an action-packed day, return to the lodge for dinner served in the main dining room. Following that, you can either retire to the cozy comfort of your cabana or socialize with other travelers, sharing your rainforest experiences. As the night deepens, let the soothing sounds of the jungle lull you into a restful sleep, ending your day amid the Amazonian enchantment.

Tips for future travelers

We didn't bring any long sleeves with us, and were told upon arrival that we should wear long sleeves and long pants for every activity (ideally light colors - no black and no bright colors). It would have been good to know before we left everything in our main suitcase and had to buy souvenir shirts we wore everyday!
