Charming hotel with spacious rooms, an in-house restaurant, a fitness center, a lap pool, and a curated minibar

Overview

Bolton Hotel is a family-owned hotel paying homage to New Zealand's historical roots and is named after one of the first immigrant ships arriving in the 1800s. The hotel is right in Wellington's central business district, footsteps away from Parliament. This location puts you within a short stroll of the city's best shops, cafés, restaurants, and Wellington's lively waterfront. Wellington Botanic Garden is located a 9-minute walk from the hotel, and the famous Te Ahumairangi Hill Lookout is a 7-minute drive from Bolton Hotel.

The hotel offers spacious Studios and one or two-bedroom apartment-style Suites. Interiors are modern and feature white, beige, and dark brown furnishings. The Sleep and Go Studio is ideal for a short stay, while the Premier Studio is better for a more extended stay as it offers more space and a kitchenette. Larger groups or families may enjoy the contemporary Classic Suites, which have separate bedrooms and spacious living areas. The two-bedroom Bolton Suite, with views of the Thorndon Hills and Wellington City, features a fully equipped kitchen and offers an upgraded stay. For the ultimate upgrade, consider the Residence Suite, a penthouse apartment with luxurious furnishing, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a balcony with unobstructed views of Wellington.

Start your day at the Lobby Café & Bar with a perfectly crafted coffee, or indulge in the hotel's Classic High Tea from the Artisan kitchen. For dinner, immerse yourself in the sophisticated comfort of the in-house Artisan restaurant that serves seasonal flavors and authentic Kiwi cuisine. To maintain your fitness routine, visit the hotel's fitness center or dip in the lap pool to revive and refresh. If you prefer something more relaxing, head to the hotel's luxurious spa pool and sauna. If you want to sample local flavors, the hotel's curated minibar features some of New Zealand's finest food and beverage brands.

Our stay at the Bolton was very comfortable! The bed was cozy and there was plenty of room to spread out and for both of us to work from the room. We appreciated that on our work day we could each separately reach the bathroom without interrupting the other's work. We found it a bit odd that there were no drawers to unpack in, nor a room safe, but there was a spacious closet with a small set of shelves.

Breakfast offered more variety, with eggs cooked to order and fresh fruit. By this point in the trip I had realized that New Zealand milk wasn't sitting well with me, and I was able to request soy milk as an alternative from the staff each morning.

Location
It was convenient that the walk from the top of the botanic gardens ended up easily coming back to the hotel. If we'd had business at parliament, this location would've been perfect. It was less convenient to Te Papa/Cuba St sights.
Staff
Chatty, well humored, accommodating.
Cleanliness & Comfort
The spacious bathroom had a separate shower and very deep soaking tub. The separate living area was a comfortable place to work. Having in-unit laundry was very handy - it was great that soap was provided for the machine and that we could ask for more as needed. We weren't used to a single machine that did both wash and dry, so we appreciated that they also provided a spacious drying rack for the things we wanted to avoid machine drying by hand washing.
