What you'll do

Typically, your kayaking adventure begins with pick-up from your hotel or a pre-determined meeting spot in Punta Arenas, where you'll meet your guide. Then, they'll drive you 17 miles (27 km), which takes about 25 minutes, until you reach Bahia de Agua Fresca, where you can take in the views of the surrounding mountains and lush forests. Here, your bilingual guide will help you with your kayak and equipment, provide instructions, and answer any questions.

Once ready, get into your kayak and paddle into the Magellan Strait, a channel connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. For the next 2 hours, you can paddle through a thriving ecosystem, home to various marine fauna, including a kelp forest, and wildlife, like birds, sea lions, and dolphins. As you float, take in the views of Punta Arenas and Tierra del Fuego ("Land of Fire"), a territory extending across the southernmost tip of Chile and Argentina. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating tidbits about the region's history, geography, and biodiversity.

The tour concludes at the starting point, where you'll head back to the shore. Here, you can change into dry clothes and enjoy a well-deserved homemade snack, including cookies, a slice of cake, kneaded bread, homemade jams, tea, coffee, or milk. After eating, it's common for your guide to drive you back to Punta Arenas.

Not that “ exciting “ an activity really to be really honest. Lot of preparation & time taken ( pick up / drop off / gear up for kayaking / transfer to water edge / instruction / kayaking & then reverse ). Minimal wild life, birdlife etc …… limited English & no really “ spotting “ or information. Read more
