Hotel Alma Sur, Punta Arenas

4.4 (11 reviews) · Comfort
Simple hotel with modernized rooms in new wing, a restaurant, and a spa with sauna

Overview

Hotel Alma Sur is just a 5-minute walk from Plaza de Armas, the picturesque central square of Punta Arenas, making it ideal for exploring this Antarctic gateway city. Wander the halls of the Baroque Palacio de Sara Braun in five minutes, or head in the other direction to walk up to the Cerro de la Cruz viewpoint, which looks over the city and sea. The wildlife and hiking trails of the Magellan National Reserve are a quick 15-minute drive, and Torres del Paine is four hours away.

The hotel offers 115 simple rooms spread out across two wings. Those in the newer wing have been more recently renovated and offer a quieter, more modern stay. Triple rooms are available for larger parties, and there are accessible options. Coffee and tea machines are only available in some rooms, such as the Queen Suite, King Room, and a few others, so be sure to check with the hotel if you want to get these amenities. The Queen Suite is the highest-tier option and includes a spa bathtub for a bit of extra relaxation.

The hotel offers a few different facilities, such as a gym and a small parking lot. The on-site restaurant has a menu of local cuisine, and there's a spa with a sauna, but be sure to book it in advance to ensure you get to use it.

As with the other hotels, perfect for our need. Close to the center and bus station, very good restaurant inside is a big plus if you are exhausted, attentive staff. Small rooms but again, totally fine for our night and shower. Would recommend anytime. Read more

Large hotel, with a dated decor. Common spaces were minimal. We were given a very small room big enough for a queen bed (mattress was marginal) and two small night tables, a small desk, and the bathroom sink was in the room. A 3x3 shower was tucked in an alcove; the toilet in a small closet. No room for suitcases. It was an interior room off a small bricked outside place, so the shade was down. I expect there are other rooms of a more standard quality available. We made do for one night. Read more
