Cindy Richards

After years of chasing politicians as a reporter, columnist and editorial writer for the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune, I found my zen by chasing the sun. As a travel writer and editor, I believe my best trip is always my next trip. As a mom, I believe in the power of travel to open hearts and minds. My kids know that the adventure begins the minute we walk about the door and it doesn't end until we get home.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Family travel is my specialty, from traveling with little ones to multigenerational travel that includes everyone from newborns to octogenarians."

How did you get involved in travel?

"I have always loved to travel, but it was when I was editing a parenting magazine that I discovered the joy of exploring the world with my kids. My goal: To write about our travels in a way that inspired other parents to explore the world with their kids."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"When I was a young adult, I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time. Like just about everyone else in the world, I had "seen" it in photographs many times. Seeing it with my own eyes was a profound, soul-altering experience. It taught me how much of the world we miss by sitting in a chair and looking at a photograph. "
