Our accommodation was simply stunning. Each place was more and more picturesque than the last and it was such a joy to stay in such luxury. The sites, sounds and tastes of Sri Lanka were stunning and we had a really special experience.

Nature and culture in romania: 15 days, Romania - Oct 1 - Oct 15, 2018

Our 15 day, self-drive tour of Romania was exceptional! Raluca and her team put together a terrific itinerary which brought us to a wide range of scenic, historic, urban and rural sights. There were also great country drives through farms and pasture land and some truly impressive rides through the mountains. Don’t miss the Transfargarasan mountain road to Balea Lac!
We stayed in a mix of city hotels and country pensiuneas. These rural B&B ’s were all different. Most were unique. All were good.
We drove 1300 miles in 15 days. We were surprised and awed by the scenery. We saw an agrarian and pastoral life that will likely disappear in the next 25 years. We learned about the history and culture of a people of which we knew relatively little.
If you are travelers who are comfortable on your own, like to discover new places and learn the ‘what and why’ of its people, we highly recommend this trip to you.

Kathmandu inside out, Nepal - Oct 2 - Oct 13, 2018

This worked out great!

We got to have input into where we went and what we did and it was easy. I worked on line with Anura before the trip to set our schedule and work out what we wanted to see.

When we arrived they meet us at the airport and every thing worked really well. My wife's suitcase as delayed and they helped with getting it sorted and getting us back out to the airport to pick it up.

The best:
1. This was not a group tour. We did not ride a round on a bus and get herded from place to place. This was very individual (my wife and myself).

2. We felt cared for and looked after. We knew that if we needed help we had a local resource. Travel in Nepal is wonderful but very a different experience. Just knowing that we had someone working for us was wonderful.

3. The value was great. Transportation (including in county flights), hotels and many of the meals, were all included.

4. We really liked the approach of Social Tours. They want to show you the real Nepal and believe they can be socially responsible as well.

Highly recommended.

Raj Gyawali, local specialist, responded to this review:

Brent,

Was a total joy having you in Nepal, and personally I really had fun chatting, getting feedback, and making slight tweaks in your itinerary. Like I mentioned, you are the perfect fit for our kind of services - personal, flexible and deep in immersion - and I am glad that it worked out!

I hope to see you back in Nepal, or get an opportunity to tailor another trip for you in another part of the world! It will be a complete joy!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review! Its a great moral booster for me, the team, and an assurance that we are on the right track!

The tour was an incredible once in a lifetime experience. The Nakasendo is fascinating and the post towns chosen for the tour were beautiful and interesting. The accommodations were terrific. The first night was quite rustic which really fit the trail and made the next two nights’ accommodation all that more special and luxurious. And the food! The breakfasts and dinners in all of the accommodations were excellent and over the top plentiful. The service at each of these places was gracious and friendly. The side trip to Matsumoto was such a highlight - it was a gorgeous fall day and the castle literally gleamed in the sunlight. The town of Narai is the prettiest and more delightful of the post towns.

Andy Moser, local specialist, responded to this review:

Aloha Leslie, we are very pleased to know the group had such an enjoyable time on your trip with us and Akko-San. Thank you for your kind words, we hope to welcome your group back to Japan on a future occasion! Best regards, Andy / Oku Japan

Carla was incredibly helpful, friendly, approachable, knowledgable, and adaptable to my changing requests. Even when I thought I was being annoying with my constant questions, I definitely never got that impression from her. I would absolutely use kimkim again, and would recommend Carla to anyone thinking of visiting South Africa.

Thank you so much for the kind words Rosie, it was just as much of a pleasure to work with you. Kaleb confirmed they had a wonderful stay here is South Africa. Until next time, take care :)

Trip to iceland, Iceland - Oct 8 - Oct 15, 2018

Traveler: John N. - Local specialist: Chris McCarty

I procrastinated my trip planning to Iceland until it was a week before my departure and I decided to try Kimkim. Chris was pleasant to work with and the process was seamless. It took less than 2 days to complete the planning as I wasn’t very picky on what I wanted to do and just let Chris do his work.

Experience jordan tour - 8 days, Jordan - Oct 9 - Oct 15, 2018

Traveler: Anne C. - Local specialist: Andy Nurse

Andy was very accommodating and was very good with the follow up. Once The trip was booked, we did not hear back from Andy or Kimkim. I wrote to them about days before the trip was to begin and at that time I received a handout of what to expect when we arrived in Amman. I wish the materials were forwarded earlier and without having to ask for them.

The once-in-a-lifetime views did not disappoint as we were lucky enough to have clear weather throughout my trek (not a cloud in the sky when I reached EBC and Kalapatar). People along the trail were also extremely friendly and it was interesting hearing stories from all walks of life. Highlight of the trip was definitely the view on top of Kalapatar - it's a difficult early morning hike that takes you above the elevation of EBC but the view was worth every step.

Highly recommend this trip to anyone who is even remotely considering it and definitely book through Ngima! Unforgettable experience all around and can't wait to go back!

Ngima Dorji Sherpa, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hi Lichi,
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. It's was a pleasure for me to organize the EBC trek for you. I will look forward to welcoming you soon in near future for your next trip to Nepal.

Best wishes,

The trip was very well-planned according to our requests. Lodging was good to very good. The people who picked up our luggage for transfers were always extremely punctual and reliable. Our only issue had both a good and bad side. Arriving the first week in October meant that there were no crowds, less traffic, and it was easy to get into restaurants. The bad news was that many things were already closed for the season and were unavailable. One glaring example was that when we went to use our voucher for a boat transfer in St. Florent the water taxi had closed for the season. With great persistence and very little French we were able to arrange for a private boat to take us. Although we made sure that everything went as planned, I think it's important for others planning a trip at that time to know that it is definitely post-season and they should know in advance that many places will be closed. Also - I felt that some of the hikes were much more rigorous than described. In English there is a difference between a path (very well-groomed and generally flat) and a trail (well-marked but rougher terrain). The "paths" in St. Florent (along the coast) and Corté (in the mountains) were very rugged trails that, for me (65-yr. old woman) required walking sticks and a knee brace that I didn't bring. All in all, Corsica is a beautiful place and we thank Kim Kim for making our wonderful trip possible!

Claudia Meloni, local specialist, responded to this review:

Dear Yael,

First I would like to thank you for this very good review that you gave us. I am glad you enjoyed your trip in Corsica and it was a real pleasure talking with you and organizing your trip.
About the period which was the end of the season and about the hikes more challenging than explained, I take your comments into account. So that I will better explain those points to the future travelers.
We will improve our agency thanks to your review, so thanks again and also thank you for being such nice travelers !

Best Regards,

Greek small ship tour, Greece - Sep 25 - Oct 6, 2018

Traveler: Nancy C. - Local specialist: Angeliki Katsifaraki

Angeliki did a great job with the arrangements. The drivers were extremely reliable and helpful. It was too bad that the weather interfered with some of the excursions that we were most looking forward to. The hotel accommodations were very nice and well located. The local guides were well informed and entertaining. We really enjoyed the volcano tour at Santorini and of course the Acropolis and the other experiences we had. Angeliki was very diligent about keeping in touch and accommodating our needs.

Angeliki Katsifaraki, local specialist, responded to this review:

Thank you Nancy for your kind words!
I am very happy you enjoyed your trip to Greece!
Looking forward to helping you organize your next visit to Greece, so you can explore more hidden gems of the unparalleled Greek beauty.

Trip to india, India - Oct 1 - Oct 13, 2018

Traveler: Bev R. - Local specialist: Angela Manrique

We were in Delhi and Agra for 6 days. We appreciate having good hotels. We appreciate having all the transportation provided, such as transfers from the airport to the hotel. We most appreciate being about to custom design a tour that was exactly what we wanted rather than having to fit into someone else's agenda.
We love the transportation with the women cab drivers. They are excellent! They inspire confidence. I applaud their bravery.
I enjoyed meeting Anna. She was great!

During the trip, my friend and I truly felt like we were VIP. When we arrived at each destination, there would be someone waiting for us to take us to our hotel. It was completely stress-free! The majority of the tours were private, meaning my friend and I could ask all the questions we wanted. We felt like we got the most out of each experience. The tour guides were so friendly and passionate about the history behind each sight or destination.

I would highly recommend traveling through KimKim (as long as all the agents are as incredible as Kristy). It takes the stress out of planning, booking and traveling throughout a foreign country.

5 stars all around :)

Erin was great at organising the trip and was very quick with responding to questions and requests. The guide was very knowledgable, well mannered and paced the trek well. The porters were also excellent, very friendly and worked exceptionally hard without complaints. The trip itself was very good. The circuit was a quieter than some others and the scenery was excellent. Overall the kimkim experience was very good, the staff were amazing and the trek was outstanding.

Our driver for the most part was good- he got us to where we needed to go safely. I left my wallet at a hotel in a previous city and he arranged to get it back for me which was incredibly helpful. However, he kept bringing us to these terrible tourist traps where he would get a commission if we bought something. Everything at these places was very overpriced. We wanted to get a carved elephant to bring home with us and he kept refusing to bring us to other places telling us he knew of a better place in Kandy. When we got to the shop we realized it was a scam (with terrible reviews online) and that everything was outrageously priced. He also brought us to places for lunch that would feed him for free for bringing us in. It would have be okay except a few of the places were dirty with bad food and 2-3 times more expensive than normal local places.

We also had an absolutely terrible night at one of the hotels. The hotel was outdated and very dirty. There were stains on our pillows and curtains, hairs in the bed that weren't ours and a dead lizard. We asked hotel to fix this and when we returned to our hotel room the same stained pillows were put back on our bed and the lizard was placed on our table. We have never been treated this way and thought our requests were not at all unreasonable but the staff seemed to be offended at our request? So they left a dead animal on our table. I have been in contact with Sandun about this for the last month and he kept saying he would follow up with the hotel (I was under the impression that we might get a refund or something) but I haven't heard anything which is further frustrating.

The planning process was easy and fun, with an email exchange with Tasos to find the right mix of active/relaxing/cultural activities. He found great hotels for us and arranged all transfers. In the midst of planning, the ferry schedule changed and Tasos alerted us right away so we could make necessary changes to our plans. Without Tasos, we wouldn't have known about that change. Lampros, our driver from the Athens airport to hotel, was very professional and knowledgeable. We were greeted with a vodaphone card and phone battery charger in a welcome packet. We only had one day in Athens, so Tasos arranged a combined Mythology and Food Tour. Katerina, our Mythology guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. The suite with private and hot tub at Aphrodite & Venus Hotel on Santorini was beautiful with wonderful breakfast. The Wooden Boat tour with dinner/saxophone/sunset was a fun tour with guide Christina. We also enjoyed our stay in Naxos. The Nastasia Village Hotel was quaint, also with delicious breakfast and made to order eggs each morning. The host family was welcoming and helpful. The Naxos Trekking hike we took was a highlight with a guided tour just for the two of us. The day prior, the original tour guide was called away unexpectedly, but it was seemless to us as Taos made arrangements for a new guide, Matina. He offered a refund for that tour if we weren't satisfied, but that tour was a highlight of the trip. Tasos arranged for the taxi to pick us up from the hotel and meet Matina in Chalki where headed off for our hike. The taxi picked us up at the end of the hike to go back to the hotel. We had Tasos arrange all of our transfers to/from hotel/ferries and it made things so easy. We felt like VIPs when we showed up and just looked for a sign with our name on it. The transfer to the airport at the end was a little tight, but we made it (barely). The itinerary we received from Tasos about a week before departure was thorough and well-organized. It was a great reference during our trip, but just enough that we didn't have to think too much on the trip and could enjoy the sights and the company! We had a couple questions during our stay and Tasos was always quick to respond via email. I would definitely use this service again.

Our idea was doing the Habitational on the first day and a regular trek the following day...bad idea as we were very sore after a 10 hour up and down hills including 4 hours following the gorilla family. Following day we just bailed out of the trek as we needed the rest, yet “What an Experience” I even got false charged by the large Silver Back...a real African adventure!
The food at Nkuringo Bwindi lodge was not up to par and I’m not a picky eater so I suggest you make other arrangements at that location. The staff was very nice but even when we write everything we wanted to eat down on paper, it never was correct.... a communication problem. Even Moses our driver translated but it never worked.
The best lodge was Kyaninga. A beautifully log cabin lodge with great food and wonderful staff.
Now for Kim Kim...a great tour company which allows you to deal with the tour operator in the area your traveling in. My questions about our trip were answered within an hour which gave me a feeling of confidence about the upcoming African adventure. Our driver and guide “Moses”was with us at all times if we needed anything... he was great. Overall trip was a 9 out of 10.

We then went on our jeep/camel ride for a few hours and got back around 4 with nothing to do til dinner. Our driver told us he was picking us up the next morning around 6 to do a 1 1/2 hour jeep ride then a 2 hour hike. We woke up at 6 and then told there was a booking issue to see if we could pack up and move our stuff to a different tent. On our ride, the jeep broke down and were stuck for 1 1/2 hours before the replacement jeep came. At that point we were not in the mood to drive another 1 1/2 and hike in the heat of the day which was the whole point we left early. So when we got back we had nothing to do for the whole day and thats why we called our agent to go to Amman earlier. I just felt that if we had known how long that hike/jeep ride was and that we would be doing it in the morning, we wouldn't have stayed an extra night at the camp and went to Amman early and saved the expense of the extra car ride/hotel cost.

Zeynep created a fantastic trip for us. The accommodations were all very nice; the detailed map was very, very helpful; and the suggested sights were mostly spectacular and unique. Our experience of Iceland was just fantabulous. I enjoyed most the west and south coasts. Although the 'golden circle' was nice, it was not as interesting and the west coast and the glaciers to the south.

We were pleasantly surprised that Zeynep had mapped out our route and hand wrote the particular sites that she thought we would want to see. Every day worked out perfectly. We even saw the Northern Lights which was the much hoped for point of the trip.

We especially appreciated the private transfers from the airport (Christian), the hotels (especially Skuggi - fantastic breakfast!), the car rental and the Blue Lagoon excursion. None of my group had any complaints and the only bad part of the trip was leaving Iceland. It is such a beautiful country and we were so happy with our experience there!

Our guide Elayas was simply superb. We were greatly surprised and excited about the rich scenery, history and traditions in Ethiopia . Evenings of traditional dancing, and foods were an unexpected bonus. The ritual coffee ceremony almost every day was most appreciated, giving us a welcome boost. Local markets were festinating & robust , especially in Lalibela. The people everywhere were friendly and helpful.

Sabin was an amazing guide!!! I don't think the experience would have been the same without him. His knowledge of the area and people seem unparalleled which made everything go smoothly and made me feel very comfortable visiting a place where I knew nothing of the language and customs. He went above and beyond in making our experience memorable, such as entertaining us with and teaching us card tricks, making lots of jokes, and serenading us with songs on the guitar. He was so much fun to be around and I look forward to our continued friendship! I cannot say enough good things about him and I hope to come back and it trek with him again!

The gorilla trek was amazing!!! I still can't believe that I did it! Very well organised and guides and traders were great. Get a Porter!!! I didn't think it was going to be neccessary as my backpack was not heavy but they were super helpful and you are providing work for someone who might instead be poaching.
The chimpanzee tracking was fun but physically challenging. Much harder than the gorillas. Really steep hills and we had to move quite quickly to keep up with them. Definitely get a porter for this one.
Really people in rwanda are so friendly and welcoming, I cannot wait to go back another time.

Overall, we had good weather- particularly in the important places where clear skies was a benefit to most enjoy the scenery. We even saw the Northern Lights in Höfn which was such a bonus for us.
Thank you so much for organising this amazing trip for us. I have already recommended KimKim to some friends and family members and would definitely use your booking team again.

My guide Phurba and porter Lakpa were the best I could have asked for. Not only were they excellent at what they were supposed to do, they were such fun and laid back guys, and worked so naturally to match my level of physical fitness. By only the end of the first day trekking, we had all become trekking buddies!

The trek itself had some lovely moments, and a few great views of the mountain range, but nothing extraordinary. Much of the trail is comprised of pesky loose rocks (terrible on the knee and ankle joints) and almost the entire trail is full of animal droppings. (think bad smells) Next time I'd like to try the higher elevation treks.

Prajwol Shrestha, local specialist, responded to this review:

Thank you very much for taking out some of your precious time on writing and sharing your experience, Michael. It was a great pleasure to organize the trip to Pikey Peak for you and glad to know that you are happy with our team's effort on making your trip a successful one. But I am sorry that you felt some discomfort on the trail due to loose rocks and animal poops. But if you choose to do higher elevation trek, there won't be the similar problem.

I look forward to helping you again for your next plan in Nepal.

He was very patient as we emailed back and forth trying to decide what kind of trip suited us and always replied very promptly. It was a very stress free experience as we were met at the airport by Sudarshan, our guide Sanu and driver Amrit, and were whisked off to the first night of our 3 day Balthali Trek. All 3 nights accommodation were very comfortable with excellent food and service - but the highlight was Namu Buddha Resort! A series of cottages spread out through a lovely garden - we had a large 2 story house just for 2 of us - and superb vegetarian food all grown on the property. The walk to the nearby Tibetan monastry was well within our capabilities and the monastry was spectacular. We were very well looked after by Sanu, who gauged our level of fitness and adjusted walking times accordingly, and answered our many questions about Nepalese lifestyle and customs. We were also very appreciative of Amrit's superb driving skills on very challenging roads. Both Sanu and Amrit were charming, helpful and considerate and we highly recommend their company - Blue Sheep - to travelers wishing to gain an insight into Nepalese culture. Sudarshan met us on our return to Kathmandu and was very helpful with advice for our brief visit to that very vibrant city.

7 days japan experience with multi-day hike, Japan - Oct 1 - Oct 7, 2018

Traveler: Vanessa S. - Local specialist: Mirka Niemi

Our trip was mix of cosmopolitan Tokyo and tranquil, green Japanese countryside along the Kumano Kodo trail. Our itinerary started and ended in Tokyo, with its skyscrapers, nightlife, busy streets and great food. In between we took Shinkansen to the southern part of Japan, where time slowed down: Breathtakingly beautiful vistas, forests, rice and tea fields, traditional Japanese inns, fantastic food and relaxing natural hotspring spa’s. Most important: hospitable & very kind people. Truly an unforgettable trip.

Too many highlights to easily summarize: Great hike along the Kumano Kodo trail, amazing food, fabulous onsens (hot springs), great Japanese hospitality and high energy Tokyo neighborhoods all made this trip.

Day 1: Evening arrival in Tokyo (Mitsui Garden Hotel), followed by a quick hunt for late night food that led us to a cool little bar that served clams and beers. The trip plan in a handy small format, and other documents that we received were useful, and we ended up referring to the info throughout the trip.

Day 2: Very early morning departure by bullet train towards the Kii peninsula via Osaka, zipping by Mt Fuji. Great way to see Japan while enjoying a nice breakfast and reading up on the trip ahead. Arrived at the Kumano Kodo trailhead around 2pm after a bus ride from Kii Tanabe station. About 2 hours of hiking on steep trails to the first overnight, which was just off the main trail in the valley in the small town of Kurisugawa. We were the only guests in the Ryokan, and got very well taken care of by the old innkeeper.

Day 3: Great day of hiking through forests with occasional sweeping views of the valley. About 4 hours of hiking. Met about 20 other hikers (mainly from Canada and Australia, only 1 Japanese). Arrived in the pretty town of Chikatsuyu around 2pm, and visited the Oku Japan office there. Great to chat with Oku staff Noriko and Satoe about how interest in the Kumano Kodo is reviving the local economy. We stayed in Minshuku Chikatsuyu, which is run by a young innkeeper who cooks amazing food. Onsen was pretty good (but the best Onsen was yet to come the next day).

Day 4: Rainy day, so we decided to take the shortest hiking option. First section by bus, which seemed to make many loops before dropping us at the trail. Hiked through beautiful hills and villages while rain was on and off, and then arrived at Kumano Hongu Taisha, one of the main shrines along the Kumano Kodo. We were early for the 2.30pm bus, but still ended up missing it, so we walked the final 4km along the road to Yunomine Onsen (which actually ended being a nice walk, glad we did it!). The small town of Yunomine was one of the highlights of our trip, with a river and hotspring that gets tapped to fuel the various Onsens. We stayed in Azumaya Ryokan, an old inn with lots of character and a great indoor / outdoor Onsen. Food served in our room was very good.

Day 5: After another great early morning Onsen session we took the 8.40am bus to Shingu. Visited the temple and strolled through town. Had a great lunch next to the station before boarding train to Nagoya. Great ocean views again from the train. Changed to the super fast Nozomi bullet train in Nagoya for final stretch to Tokyo. The Gate hotel in Asakusa was great. Amazing views from 13th floor lobby. Had dinner in nearby Shabu Shabu restaurant on 4th floor of a highrise.

Day 6: Early morning breakfast with great views on Tokyo Skytree, then off to Tokyo National Museum on foot. Really enjoyed strolling through Tokyo and see families on bicycles going about their life. At noon met with our friend Ryo at the Senso Ji Gate and started an epic exploration of Tokyo neighborhoods. Dinner at a hotpot restaurant with more friends and finally a late night drink in Hoppy Street near our hotel.

Day 7: Early morning shopping spree for presents for the kids, and then a cooking class with CookJPN. Great to see a Japanese apartment from the inside will cooking local dishes. After some final shopping off to the airport. Goodbye Japan, see you again very soon!!!

We were on a trip to Patagonia and toured around Argentina and undertook a number of experiences. All of these were incredible and while there were some things that slightly detracted from the experience we were very pleased overall with the experience.

We happened to arrive at a time when a strike was scheduled which meant one of our days had to be moved around. This meant we stayed a day longer in El Calafate and had to find something to entertain us whilst we were there, which we managed no problem due to my interest in wildlife and the presence of a nature reserve at the edge of the town.

The strike also had a knock on effect that meant our transfer from the hotel to the bus station the next day didn't turn up and we had to very quickly jump in a taxi and head across to the bus station and similarly when we returned to El Calafate a transfer with a different company also didn't show up which meant a walk in the dark back to the hotel with no map.

We also had an issue with some cash machines which after an internet search turned out to be due to some Argentinian banks not working with European issued credit/bank cards. We found that HSBC and Santander were able to work fine and actually charged less overall for the withdrawals.

Activity 1: Canoeing on Lake Mascardi with Kawen Adventure Company.
Guides Julian and Rodrigo turned up on time and spoke good English. They talked us through the area, the wildlife and the plan for the day. After a morning of canoeing the weather ahead looked pretty bad and we made the decision to stop for lunch. We had lunch on the shore overlooking Lake Mascardi. Lunch wasn't just some sandwiches and a bottle of water. A full table was set up with a whole range of different food, pastries, salad and of course Argentinian wine. After lunch we carried on back to the start before heading back to Bariloche.

Activity 2: Horse Riding at Estancia Frugua
Another great day, however there wasn't a bi-lingual guide and my Spanish is pretty poor. We were due to go out in the morning and afternoon but for some reason we only went out in the morning. I suspect there was a reason for this but as we don't speak enough Spanish to hold a full conversation we were left in the dark a bit. We managed to communicate through most of it though. The food here was also incredible.

Activity 3: Mini Trekking Perito Moreno Glacier
Great day again. Good guides, spoke good English and a great experience overall. The trip out to the glacier was great and it just got better and better throughout the day. An experience not to be missed. Whisky on the glacier was pretty cool too.

Activity 4: Hiking in El Chalten
The hiking in El Chalten was incredible. We were fortunate that the weather turned to the good the day we arrived and stayed good for our entire stay but it is an incredible place and a must for anyone who likes the outdoors. The hikes we did were far from challenging and took in some amazing scenery. A couple of steep sections but nothing anyone who is relatively fit couldn't take on.

Activity 5: Valdes Peninsula and Whale Watching.
Again an experience not to be missed. After touring around during the morning and early afternoon seeing various wildlife, (guanaco, burrowing owls, mara, elephant seals, penguins and sea lions) we then got the chance to go whale watching and we were so close to the whales it was incredible.

Hotels
Design Suites Bariloche - Very nice hotel and restaurant. Great views across the mountains and very friendly staff.

Hainen Hotel - Nice place but obviously not meant to be overly luxurious. It was great, served our purpose and the staff were friendly and accommodating when issues occurred.

Lunajuim - Really nice hotel, very friendly staff who really made us feel welcome.

Hotel Peron - Nice hotel, although clearly a lot busier than others we had stayed in so breakfast was a lot louder. Good views across the bay. Staff spoke less English, but we managed to check in.

Hotel NH Florida - Nice hotel and polite staff. Breakfast was incredibly busy with people finding it hard to find somewhere to sit and staff seemed to be struggling to keep up with providing enough cups and glasses etc.

Other small notes -
There were a few costs that we hadn't budgeted for nothing major but may be worth making clear to people in future -
Park Entrance Fee for Canoeing (300 pesos each)
Park Entrance Fee for Mini-Trekking (600 pesos each)
Park Entrance Fee for Glacier Boat Tour (600 pesos each)
Park Entrance Fee for Whale Watching (520 pesos each)
City Tax in Bariloche (approximately 300 pesos)

Total of approximately 4,340 pesos. All of the above also needed to be in cash. Once we'd resolved the withdrawals issue it wasn't a problem. Also worth noting that the fees are much reduced for residents of Argentina.

It is worth noting that while there were a few issues we had the telephone number of our local specialist who managed to resolve the issues as they occurred and generally put our minds at rest when we were concerned.

Overall this experience was incredible and one not to be missed.

Miha was very nice and responsive when I contacted him to plan a four-day trip to Slovenia on short notice. He helped me decide where to stay and how to allot the four days and set up a guide for two of the days.
Our guide, Bostjan, was incredibly nice, interesting and helpful. It was so nice not to have to worry about driving places and how to get there. I loved seeing Piran but would have liked more time there and more information about the town and its history. I also loved the winery he took us to, which was a great experience and very different. The region was particularly beautiful. In general, again, I would have liked more information on our surroundings.
It may have been due to the fact that we didn't plan our trip too far in advance so I'm not necessarily faulting Miha, but I didn't know the details of what we were going to be doing on the two days with the guide and would have liked an opportunity to decide after a more in depth conversation about the alternatives. I had to call the guide a day before we were leaving for Prague to ask about it and discuss some possibilities since I hadn't heard from anyone.
I also really loved our hiking experience with Bostjan. He did a great job of figuring out what would be both interesting, scenic and manageable for me with some knee problems and not being as adept a hiker as my husband. He was an expert driver on the windy mountain roads and planned a really wonderful hike.
Things I didn't find so interesting: walk through a bird sanctuary, since it wasn't particularly culturally interesting and birds had already flown south, and spending time in Lake Bled. Again, I'm not necessarily faulting the tour company for spending time in Bled since I had heard a great deal about it and it is a pretty famous site. It certainly was pretty and we had some great meals in local restaurants, and also went to the nearby gorge. However, it's very crowded and touristy and I think I would have preferred knowing a bit more about that aspect of it through talking with the tour company, and maybe spending time in a home stay overnight in the countryside instead or something like that. My favorite part of visiting Lake Bled was actually taking a different route back from the gorge and walking through the forest and two local villages back to Lake Bled. We were not able to rent bicycles there because the only places that were open didn't have any small enough for me, but it turned out to be fine to walk.

We outlined our preferences for types of hotels, modes of transport, and places we wanted to include on our visit. Ingrid evaluated our ideas, made suggestions and then delivered an itinerary that we collaborated on for weeks. That required a lot of patience from her!

Honestly, this trip met ALL of our expectations because Ingrid took the time to listen and help us make good choices. All tickets were emailed, all connections made, paving the way for a knockout time in Norway. Well done KimKim. We will book another amazing excursion with your u again.

Had an amazing time on our short, self-guided bike trip through Tuscany. The area is beautiful, especially the stretch from the outskirts of Florence to Radda in Chianti. Lots of wineries with consistently good wine. Everything was well coordinated in terms of bike delivery, luggage transport, and hotel booking. Had some initial difficulty with the bikes and with navigation but everything went smoothly afterwards.

Dear Felix,

Thank you very much for taking time to give us such a nice review. I am very happy you enjoyed your stay ! You were a very kind traveler. Maybe see you next time for your next trip !

Its has been amazing 12 days trip with Mihiret being a tour guide and organized by Marco.

Ethiopia is not an easy country when it comes to street and people photography. However every visit to a location was organized with much knowledge, expertise and love., and as a result I got thousands of great photos.

Mihiret speaks local languages, knows, traditions, all do's and what is also very important - dont's.

Highly recommended!

Traveler: Anna R. - Local specialist: Enguerran Zandonai

The trip was amazing. Can’t describe how good it was. We had the most fantastic guide (Oyu) and driver (Banzar) and really got immersed into the Mongolian culture. Amazing place with so much scenery, lots of driving but you need to be prepared for that going to Mongolia anyway. Everyone was so kind and wanted to do what they could to help us and make our trip special. Passed some others on trips but ours was quite private so didn’t have much communication.
Kimkim was very organised and we knew what to expect and everything ran very smoothly.

Hi Susan and Kimkim,
Re: star ratings above: Susan was very nice (five stars) and booking on your site is excellent (five stars). I put three stars because of value of trip to us.

My computer has been in repair but I’m up and running so here is our review.

Accommodations and Sites on Each Stop:
NAIROBI
Fairview Hotel: Wonderful. We would love to have rested up here for first day as you know.
Sites: Baby elephants and giraffe fun to see. Suspect in hindsight that a drive through the Nairobi National Park would have been a more robust and exciting day…more of an “A” than a “B” site.
LAKE NAVAISHA
Camp Carnalley: Cheryl enjoyed the environment (birds, lake, trees). William was very uncomfortable with the rustic cabin with no windows. William was only warm by the fire in the restaurant…everything else open air and cold. Food very bad except pizza and cocktails. Cheryl and William both feel the camp does not meet with the “comfortable” standard we purchased.
Hells Gate: Hike good exercise but views not “A” rated. Walking with animals lovely (prefer hiking with animals on a hiking trail..but it was nice nevertheless). William not at all excited about Hells Gate. Cheryl was engaged and interested with walk and the gorge hike. She would have preferred arriving early in the morning for pink cliff and more animals. Hindsight.
LAKE NAKURU
Maili Saba Camp: Wonderful. We both enjoyed the view, cottage, food, environment, service, pool. Best accommodation of the trip.
Nakuru National Park: Wonderful. We both really enjoyed the scenery an animals of Nakuru.
MARA, MATIRA BUSH CAMP S IDE
Matira Bush Camp: Could have been perfect. Wonderful setting in the bush, good service and food. Problem upon arrival after dark: they took us to a tent surrounded by bush, no view, very dark and claustrophobic. I told them it did not match what I saw online in pictures. They said pictures can be misleading. They said platform tent might be better but was booked. So we tried to sleep in the dark tent but gave up early am and I got some pads from the reception area and put them on ground around the fire. Got some rest there but it required “going rogue” and it woke up some of the staff. At dawn I found the platform tent with lovely view and no one was in it. We moved into that tent the second night and I really think it was unfair that they did not eagerly change our tent the night before. Lost almost a whole night sleep after a long drive. Did not meet with the comfort standard purchased for the first night. We were able to relax and very much enjoy the platform tent the second night
Game Drive out of Matira
Beginning to be concerned we were not seeing many animals in the Mara. A Swedish couple seriously advised us to go to two places to see cheetah, leopard, and a touch of the remaining migration. Duncan was extremely defensive when I suggested this itinerary. Swedes had warned me this might happen and advised me how to handle driver with gentle persuasion and offer of larger tip. So I did this and he did as requested and we saw the wonderful animals. His attitude cast a pall. We managed to keep things cordial with humor. Did not like having to “manage” driver.
KEEKOROK SIDE OF MARA
Keekorok Lodge: Did not know that there are two sides of the Mara and that Keekorok is located on a side of the park that has fewer animals and a lot of wide open repetitious views (maybe not so empty when there is a migration or on different roads?). Cheryl really enjoyed the hippo pool and wandering the grounds of Keekorok. William was ok with the lodge but felt it was poor value for cost of trip. Food was quite good. Loved presence of monkeys but missed the bush emersion of Matira .
Game drive out of Keekorok: Did not see many animals. Resorted to visiting high end camp which was intereting. Sand River views lovely for Cheryl, but William missed seeing animals. Not good value game driving day. A lot of driving on not very intereting roads.
BACK TO NAIROBI
Hilton Garden Inn: Very comfortable. Nice rooftop pool. We were considering staying in the Fairview Hotel instead of Hilton since Duncan insisted on leaving early from Keekorok. We were headed for Fairview when William asked to go to the stores at the lunch place you recommended after giraffe visit. Without letting us know how long it was going to take (we had no idea where it was), Duncan drove to the store which added so much driving time (and in heavy traffic) to the day that we no longer had time to enjoy Fairview. Arrived late to Hilton and enjoyed it very much for the two hours left in a looooong day of driving, some which could have been avoided. We were having a hard time communicating with Duncan…felt “cut off” from information about what was going on and how his decisions would impact our day. We would not have gone to the store if were knew it would eliminate ability to enjoy Fairview again. He acted quite unconcerned and was very self absorbed (except when we could make him laugh…William was good at that and luckily Duncan was receptive to a laugh once and a while).
OVERVIEW OF ITINERARY
This is a tough one to analyze as I do not know what the rest of Kenya is like. Overall less exciting and I expected for cost of trip. Too much “work” for a tour. Trusted that all destinations would be “A” rated, but this was not the case for us. Did not know I should have worked harder myself on the itinerary. My primary disappointment was the lack of scenery for a majority of the driving. We back tracked over long stretches which were not particularly interesting. The bumpy roads were very hard on William; he would have preferred a shorter trip with flights. I accept bumpy roads as part of safari experience but do expect good scenery as an important part of an itinerary. I’m very careful in California to “stay scenic”. I undertand you cannot predict client response to bumpy roads.
TRIP VALUE
I have recalculated the cost of trip before Kimkim fees as best I can and I come up with cost of driver and accommodation to be about $4,700. (I did not assess hotel nights as “per person” as they are not billed that way online…rates are for two people. The only time I see per person rates is when you are using the lodges safari services). Duncan said his rate is $300 per day. There is a chart below.
We paid $8000. Duncan said he is paid $300 per day ($2,700 for our days). I estimate the lodging at $2,000 for two. Hotels based on prices for two not each searched online or at sites: Fairview $175 one night (I did not include the one night tobe refunded; Camp Carnalleys (generous estimate $150/night); Maili Saba $400 for two nights meals included two people; Matira Bush Camp rate not listed so I estmate about $250 per night max for two; Keekorok two nights $500 for two; Hilton Garden Hotel generous upward estimate $200 for two).
I thought that since we were not receiving the kind of full blown attention and services of a Roads Scholar type tour that using Kimkim would be a good value way to go…more like a travel agent than a tour company. I thought that we would enjoy consistent comfort, that the driver would be congenial and trustworthy and while not a guide would convey an eagerness to please, that we would have comfortable lodging, and that the itinerary would be full of “A” rated experiences.. I thought that without steep middle man fees and additional fees for a professional guide that cost would be much lower than a standard tour like Roads Scholar. Unfortunately, little of this turned out to be true for us.
I did not have a bad trip…I was quite happy most of the time. William suffered more…he kind of “gave up” and used a lot of humor to cope. We are both glad we went, but feel like we way overpaid for what we got.
I am of course open to your response to my concerns and you are free to call me 415 7305305. If there is a way to address these concerns and continue working with you that would be great.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Chester (and William Baker)

Hi Cheryl and William,
Thanks for your sharing your thoughts on your recent Kenya trip. I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed our working together and the use of the KimKim app, though of course I am sorry to hear that the value of the trip fell short of your expectations. Though it seems you overall had a good adventure and that you liked many of the lodgings and excursions, I appreciate your feedback on where things were not so good for you. Although you and William and I exchanged many communications on options and iterations on our way to creating the final idea to fit your time and budget, it seems we missed the mark on the right balance of managing budget and each element of location, accommodation, transportation, and activities.

We definitely take all of your input to heart, and will work even harder in the future to be sure travelers feel better about the selections made along the planning process. Without getting into the complicated pricing approach for a package trip like this, we tried our best on our price for a private 2 person 12 day safari with 7+ days in parks, lakes, or other touring, and regret that the value wasn’t there for you.

Thanks again for sharing your feedback, I appreciate your traveling with us, and wish you all the best in your memories of Africa and your future travel adventures.

Warm regards,
Susan

The attention to detail was most impressive.

I was a little nervous as I was traveling alone and had an ambitious schedule. Christos
ensured I was able to visit all the places I wanted to and got some time to relax and enjoy the islands. Taking my preferences into consideration.
The route was well planned and hotels selected were in close proximity to tourist attractions and pickup points for excursions. Transportation was coordinated with reliable, friendly and respectful business partners. They were punctual and professional. One of them drove around the port so I knew exactly which ferry I was to take as it was a little dark.
The excursions were also with reputable companies with expert and experienced tour guides which, in my opinion, makes a huge difference.
Kimkim's trip planning application made it easy to communicate, track conversations and always have access to information and resources. I never felt like I was traveling alone with prompt responses and help when I needed it the most.
The services provided by the Travel12 team truly reflect their values of honesty, respect and integrity.
Thanks so much Christos, Eric, Tasos and partners.

Starting with a general idea of what we wanted to see during our brief 10 day trip overseas, she was able to put together an itinerary that allowed us to see everything we wanted to and so much more. Each question I had during the planning process was answered promptly and thoroughly. She would check in with me at every step of the way to ensure every detail of the itinerary met our goals.

Our car rental pick up upon arrival was smooth and effortless. Each accommodation was pleasant, clean, perfectly located, and memorable. We never had an issue with a reservation or during any check out process. Veselka made herself available during our entire stay and checked in occasionally to ensure all was running smoothly.

Our trip took us by car from Zagreb, to Slovenia, down the coast of Croatia, and even Montenegro. The 3 private, guided tours were the highlight of our adventures, allowing us to get to know each location in a way we wouldn't have been able to on our own. Each guide--Aljaz, Mario, and Edi-- was personable, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond our expectations of each tour.

We made such amazing memories and are so thankful to Veselka for ensuring we could relax and enjoy our time without stressing over any reservation, accommodation, or planning detail. We cannot wait to work with kimkim again and are so pleased with the service provided by Veselka.

Robi was in daily contact with us to insure that we were enjoying ourselves in Croatia. We felt the itinerary which had been presented provided appropriate opportunities to experience each stop during our 8 days in Croatia yet allowing some time to explore on our own. The suggested accommodations were outstanding. We would certainly recommend Kim Kim and Robert to anyone traveling to Croatia.

Robert Pinčević, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hi John,
Thank you very much for your kind feedback, it means a lot.
It was a pleasure to help you with your visit to Croatia!
Many regards from Croatia!

Once again another absolutely amazing trip with Quechua Treks. Our guide, Wilson was amazing, as were every single one of our porters (whose names, unfortunately I can't remember). Wilson was a gem, took extra time with my daughter, who has never been to Peru. He got some truly exceptional photos of us along the trek. The planning was seamless and tons of fun thanks to all the hard work from Haley and crew at Quechua Treks. The food was beyond amazing, I always look forward to the food... read more

The food was beyond amazing, I always look forward to the food on these treks, the chef is a true magician. He even took into account my daughter's crazy stomach and make what she liked and could eat. She liked the avocado disc so well, she got the recipe from him!!! I love love this group of people!!!

However, since we are a bit unfamiliar with how things are in Morocco, and the limited usage of English there, we decided to have a travel guide there. Planning for the trip was made easy with KimKim, as Brahim and the team came up with the itinerary and we all agreed to it, with some amendment. The driver Mohammed was really helpful through out the journey, and made us comfortable. However, the distance from where the car could drop us to the Riad was bit too far for my parents, who had bad knees. It was partly our mistake as we thought it was not that far to walk, but actually took us good 15 minutes. (It was alright for my friend and I but was too much for my parents).

We also had amazing experience staying at the Riad, good opportunity to feel how living in Moroccan house like.

Good job KimKim! Thank you for all the help.

My local driver Mohamed is going to be very happy when I share your comments with him; he is one of my best drivers and all my clients love travling with him. We are all working together as brothers and very close friends to make sure our travelers enjoy the real Morocco full of local feelings.

Regarding the Riad and how far it is from where the car stops; I have well noted this point and for sure it's very helpful to hear back from you about my services because it helps me evaluate the accommodations I use for my travelers. I'll make sure also my whole team knows about this detail because ensuring your comfort (your parents as well) is on top of my duties, and I am very happy to do so.

Thanks a lot again and the honor is ours to have you joining our trustworthy community.

All the best,

Very enjoyable and well organised trip. Thank you Vishal. Hotels exceeded my expectations. Guide Younten was very effective and looked after everything without fail. I did not catch everything he told us but that was mainly due to my deafness. The driver Sonam was safe and alert at all times and despite challenging mountain roads I never felt nervous. We sometimes wished for additional activities between 3.30 and 6 pm. I think many customers would have been happy with the free time and we would have been happy to have a swim but hotels do not have pools. Of course the highlight was Tigers nest but the Simply Bhutan experience was also fun and informative. The Archery and Darts were also a lot of fun albeit seemed a bit dangerous by european health and safety standards.

Vishal Pradhan, local specialist, responded to this review:

Dear Iain,

Thank you for this lovely feedback and the opportunity to host you. We are glad to hear that you had a great time with your son. I am certain Yonten and sonam would be thrilled to hear about your feedbacks.

Duly noted your constructive comments, truly appreciate it. Going forward we will certainly provide background information on the traditional archery’s and Khuru. Tourism infrastructure stills remains rudimentary and hopefully our hotel infrastructure will come up to that level soon.

Take care and hope to host another trip soon.

With fond memories and best regards Sonam

Hi ! We did the Pikey peak and Solu trek package. It was even better than we expected. Amanda our local specialist really understood what we wanted, I asked for a trek with the least amount of tourist and she delivered. We did not see any tourist until the end of the trek, so our entire trek was nature and the locals (Sherpa coulture). Very sweet people, warm and very hospitable. We stayed in tea houses and they were great. Our guide Pemba was really great, he knew his stuff well and was very good about taking décisions when the weather was less than ideal. He was also really great at the Phaplu airport, a very tiny airport with very few flights and weather plays a huge role in you getting your flight and so does the delivery of goods to Lukla. So after stressing a bit thinking we may not get our flight, our guide found a way and we flew on saturday as planned, thank you Pemba for your hard work! Now our sherpas, they were so amazing, Dowa 1 and Dowa 2, they both had the same name so the told us to add the number when Calling their names. They were so great, they also did most of the cooking for us at the tea houses, they really went out of their way for us to be confortable and well fed.

As for the trek itself I loved all of it, my favorites, I really enjoyed Japre, I loved where we stayed at Pikey basecamp, climbing up to Pikey Peak at 6am in the fog and then seeing Everest was pretty magical. We all really enjoyed Loding village it was really relaxing after two hard days of Walking. When we arrived in Junbesi we immediately climbed to Thubten Choling Monastery, now that was the nicest most amazing mistical monastery I have ever visited. The monks where really warm and hospitable, they even invited us to their tea room for some delicious tea with milk and some local cookies.

I could go on and on, but if you want a trek that is a bit challenging but yet very enjoyable and minimal tourist with a real experience of the Sherpa culture, this is a really great trek. Thank you Amanda for your hard work and thank you Pemba for all the strings you pulled to get us back to Kathmandu ontime. I can't wait for my next trek in Nepal!!!

Very professional but friendly, excellent driver, so knowledgeable on the history and geography of the area and very flexible when we had requests for small variations. Our hotel accommodations were all very good - the last one - Hotel La Perouse was fabulous - great way to end our holiday. Regarding the activities we partook in - we all thought the hike in Calanques National Park was great but in some places a little slippery - not recommended for people who aren't steady on their feet or are not wearing appropriate footwear - or elderly.

We all loved our day in the Luberon visiting Gordes and Roussillon .
St Tropez was also well liked - some good shopping.
Our excursion to Grasse and our workshop at the perfume House of Galimord was probably one of our most memorable experiences - wasn't sure how the interested the guys would be but we all thoroughly ended it.
Monaco and Eze were also beautiful and very enjoyable.

Gourmet walking tour in Nice was good - Marion was lovely and very knowledgeable but a little disorganized and it was hard for everyone to hear her - concept was good and she showed us some great hidden foodie spots - would be a good tour to do the you first arrived in Nice so you could you this information to your advantage to close where to dine.

The wine tasting at Domaine du Clos des Roses was disappointing - we all thought it would have been better to stay in St Tropez - afternoon was a waste -No tour - tasted 2 wines - not worth it.

In all - we were very satisfied with the itinerary except for the wine tasting - perhaps next time we would allow 1 day extra in each location for shopping and wandering the town at our own leisure or enjoying the facilities of the hotels

Trip to bulgaria, Bulgaria - Sep 13 - Sep 23, 2018

Traveler: Bama S. - Local specialist: Simeon Dimitrov

The trip was Bulagaria and Romania. The guide Theodora in Bulgaria was very good and knowledgable and exposed us to the culture and history. Romania is a beautiful country and Transylvania very scenic. The castles, medieval Sibiu and Sighiasora was beautiful. Had some issues with the driver and guide in Romania. I would rate Romania portion a 3 star

This was the second trip we arranged through kimkim. This time we had very short notice. Rodrigo arranged a day tour for me alone in Salvador while my husband worked. I went to Praia do Forte beach + Tamar sea turtle project. He suggested going with a group tour since they are more interesting than being driven around alone.

He was right. Picked me up on time at the hotel. Great music and videos during the trip. The guide even spoke English (I was told not to expect this). They... read more

He was right. Picked me up on time at the hotel. Great music and videos during the trip. The guide even spoke English (I was told not to expect this). They have several live specimens and lots of information. Luckily, my guide chose to walk with me around the exhibits to explain it for me and read the signs. I was the only English speaker. Short tours are provided (in Portuguese) to explain how the project works to help save the sea turtle. The beach was lovely, a great place to grab lunch and a short walk from the Turtle project.

From there, we went to Rio. We had arranged a day hike to the Tijuca Forest. A real jungle in the middle of the city. Beautiful place. Our guide was very informative and friendly. We also went on a city tour.

Overall, a really nice trip.

I had been wanting to do this trip for a long time but had previously been put off just thinking of all the organisation it would take. One day I happened to type in to google 'Peru and Bolivia' and their 11 day itinerary popped up, which was exactly what I wanted to do and see. Once I contacted KimKim they transferred me to the Wonderful Clara who was AMAZING. She was quick to respond to all my questions and happy to swap and change out the Itinerary. When we were there the tour operators, drivers and guides could not have been more helpful. The only time we had to wait was when I was an hour early for a meeting! Seriously they were never late and the trip worked like clockwork. I spoke to some other travelers who were only complaining about their tour company.

Thank you KimKim and a MASSIVE thank you to Clara and her team. You made the holiday so enjoyable. I definitely recommend KimKim and if going to Peru ask for Clara she's wonderful.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Jason - London
