We had a great time spending two weeks in Costa Rica

Highlights and best memories:

1. Frog night tour with Kendry our first night in country outside of La Fortuna.
2. Saw and heard 133 species of birds using Merlin ID app - highly recommend downloading the Costa Rica bird data
3. Saw 2- and 3-toed sloths, howler and squirrel monkeys, white-faced capuchins, coati mundi, agouti, squirrels, bats, peccaries and skunk! Also crocodiles (at Tarcolos), iguanas, lizards, venomous snakes, tarantulas, mango crabs and wonderful small hermit crabs in all sorts of seashells at Manuel Antonio beach,
4. Excellent and memorable dinner at San Lucas Treetops in Monteverde. Also enjoyed the farm to table cooking class outside Quepos with Caesar and Crystal and the foodie tour in San Jose with Andrea. Dinner at Sikwa in San Jose and food at Hotel Guachipelin were also memorable.
5. Covered rain forest, cloud forest and dry forest habitats at La Fortuna, Tenorio, La Finca Farm, Monteverde, Santa Elena, Rincon de la Vieja and Manuel Antonio with excellent guides Kendra, Melany, Olman, Fatima, Olivier & Corey.
6. Orchid garden and hummingbird feeders at Cloud Forest Lodge and the hummingbird gallery in Monteverde; butterfly gardens in San Jose (Spirogyra and National Museum), El Jardin Orotina (best place to see 100s of Morphos and it’s free), and Manuel Antonio.
7. National Museum, Jade Museum and Museum of Precolumbian Gold in San Jose
8. Seeing cloud forest canopy and epiphytes from a different perspective at Treetopia
9. Good choices of hotels overall with breakfast free and good dining options at almost all.
10. Good hike seeing waterfalls and hot springs on the grounds of Hotel Guachipelin with one of our favorite guides, Olivier. The Montezuma Oropendulas, Amazons and two different owls calling at night there were also memorable
11. The chocolate, sugar cane and coffee tour at Don Juan’s was much more informative and fun than I was expecting. Seeing the cacao beans during fermentation and tasting them before and after roasting was really instructive. If you’re lucky, they will prepare some Mayan Xochol for you to drink with freshly ground beans. Sampling fresh frogwater after squeezing one’s own sugar cane was also great fun.

Disappointing or not as enjoyable or memorable:

1. Overall, the fauna in the Cloud Forest (Monteverde, Tenorio, Santa Elena & Tretopia) was more disappointing and/or elusive than in other areas. Not sure if this was because of the time of year or our guides.
2. Snorkeling trip to Isla del Canos. The drive and boat trip took >2 hours each way and the snorkeling was not that much better than we could experience with less effort in Hawaii. Also, 1.5 hours in the water was quite tiring.
3. Not enough time to explore Papagayo beaches. Not sure that going to the coast from Rincon de la Vieja and then going back inland for a long round trip to Tenorio was the best planning.
4. Los Lagos Resort in La Fortuna was the hotel at the bottom of our list: too touristy, tired rooms and poor food. Birds on site and landscaping were good though. I think we would have enjoyed a smaller boutique hotel in town.
5. Lots of driving! Next time, we’ll stay in fewer places and drive less
6. It was REALLY, REALLY wet in La Fortuna. Not KimKim’s fault, of course!

Two snorkeling sites were selected, one with low visibility and lots of sand, where we saw several small sharks and a turtle, and the other which was shallower, had better visibility and more coral and nice reef fish. Overall, the snorkeling was not much better than some places in Hawaii and I was disappointed. I also got a mild foot cramp from so long in the water. Overall the trip was overrated for me: too much effort without enough return.

Got to prepare a great Costa Rican style meal with stewed chicken, rice, beans, salad, hand made tortillas, and plantain ceviche. Chef showed us exactly what to do and it turned out wonderful. Nice tour of farmers market in town and a beautiful farm with rabbits, goats, sheep, turkeys, hens, ducks, geese, peacocks, guinea hens and an enormous riding bull recuperating from a horn surgery. Also saw their organic garden, a vanilla plantation with pepper, cacao and coffee plants. Nice to see squirrel monkeys and a great toucan along with a gorgeous sunset

We hiked for several hours with a very pleasant young man called Olivier who was knowledgeable about the flora, fauna and geography of the area. Saw howler monkeys and white faced capuchin and some great birds. Saw three waterfalls which were each spectacular. The first two we had completely to ourselves. The last one had a great swimming hole but there were quite a few people. It was nice to relax in the hot spring pools at the end after the hike, but they were also quite crowded. Beware: the no-see-um bugs in the parking lot were the most vicious bugs we encountered during the whole trip. The bites stayed with us for 2 weeks.

We've just returned from our trip to South America, travelling through Chile initially and then Argentina.
Our first stop was Santiago, the hotel was fine, smooth pick up at the airport and transfer, all good
After two days we transferred by air to Puerto Natales and we were picked up at the airport to Transfer to Torres Del Paine . The Torres Hotel was amazing in every respect ,the food service and rooms ,the guides were excellent, special mention to Alonso who we walked part of the W with and Paulina .We thoroughly enjoyed our time here .
we then travelled to El Calafate by coach , The Wyndham hotel was slightly tired ,decent but out of town.We checked in and were told we had been upgraded to corner rooms ,otherwise we would have been overlooking the car park.we enjoyed our trip to the Perito Moreno Glacier which was amazing and on the boat ,our guide was Rebecca who was very knowledgeable. we transferred by bus to El Chalten ,and had two days on our own.The National park was amazing ,we did two self guided walks and enjoyed the Bars and restaurants .The Hotel was The Hosteria Senderos which was very accommodating ,special mention for Tony who looked after us in the restaurant.
we were picked up and transferred to El Calafate airport and flew to Ushuaia ,smooth pick up at the airport and transfer to The Las Hayas ,a lovely Hotel ,a little out of town ,it did have a shuttle to Town Centre .
two fulls days one Raft ride and walk in the National Park which was very well done ,the tour guide did and excellent job,Gabi he was very knowledgeable, and entertaining.the second day we had a trip to Port Almanza where we were taken by boat along the Beagle channel where we met some penguins ,it was amazing and the ride to and from the Island was exhilarating.Afterwards we enjoyed some local Tapas and wine then back to Town for some Ice Cream with Regina and the Driver .
We then flew to Iguazu via El Calafate ,then Buenos Aires ,we would suggest for future travellers that a direct flight to BA then connect to Iguazu would be far better as we spent all day travelling ,arriving quite late at our Hotel.
We were picked up by Diego ,who discussing our plans realised that Scott and Tracy needed a Visa for the Brazilian side of the Falls trip ,which had not been mentioned in any communication with Kim Kim.This was disappointing that this issue was overlooked and we did not have sufficient time to get the necessary Visa .we were able to change our plans to do the Argentina side first ,and on our second day the local company arranged two different excursions plus a sunset boat tour .Unfortunately no one arrived at the agreed time to pick us up for our proposed boat tour ,and we had no communication as to what happened .
We stayed in the O2 Hotel ,which was near the centre ,but disappointing standard ,the views from the rooms were over scrapyards and the Towels were thin ,grey and Shabby .We can provide photos ,we did enjoy the nearby Bars and restaurants but were overall disappointed with the Hotel.
We then transferred to BA and stayed in the Palladio M Gallery ,a superb hotel in every respect .We had a great tour with Andrea who was very pleasant and knowledgeable .We enjoyed the Tango experience and Dinner.
overall we were very pleased with our trip ,there were a couple of issues with the Hotels and Visa issue .we had excellent ,warm weather almost everybody we met during our visit was warm ,welcoming and accommodating .
we would certainly use Kim Kim again ,thank you.
Scott,Tracy,Sandra and Bill.

The ranch has numerous amenities including a sauna, outdoor fireplace, indoor fireplace (in its own charming hut) and an ice chapel which serves as a bar. The restaurant offerings are on a par with fine dining in any city in the world. We absolutely adored our stay and fantasize about returning

Everything for serious history to local hot spots and shopping. He was flexible in pacing the tour to our needs and was sure to be comprehensive giving me addresses of places to follow up on our own later. He was kind enough to share some of his personal history too, so it felt like we were walking with a friend. It was the perfect introduction to Helsinki! Thanks, Ruslan

What an incredible day!!! Bearhill Huskies is a fantastic place to visit! We did a 45 minute dog sled ride and my husband had the time of his life mushing the dogs. Our instructor was amazing, keeping an eye on everyone and later on explaining all about the dogs. The dogs themselves are fantastic! And are treated with loving care. We got to pet them and give them reward treats at the end of our ride. We are already dreaming of returning and doing a longer run or even a solo!

What a lovely day!! This reindeer farm is 400 years old! It is set in beautiful woods. We were treated to a delightful ride in a sled pulled by a reindeer named Arvo. Arvo is owned by a 9 year old boy! Reindeer herding is a community activity and represents a deep cultural heritage. Afterwards we were treated to a warm drink, tasty pastries as we sat around a fire and were told all about the farm and how reindeer are herded in Finland. These sweet creatures are treated with respect and clearly well cared for. We had the opportunity to feed the reindeer and one even allowed us to pet him. It was a magical morning!

We went out on beautiful trails and had the time of our lives! Later that evening we met Lauri again for sky viewing. We were lucky and had a spectacular showing of the Norther Lights. Lauri helped make it memorable by knowing all the right places to see it well, and he helped us get some amazing photos! One of the best things about Last Santa is that there were no crowds, just the two of us. It made our experience incredible to have the personalized attention that Lauri was able to give us. We recently returned from a three-week trip in Patagonia, mostly in Chile. Planning the trip and working with this touring agency was challenging; we spent many hours researching the itinerary, the tours and hotels recommended, even double-checking their final vouchers. This was all due to having picked up discrepancies on the initial draft of the itinerary and along the way. At times we wondered why we're paying them the fee?!
Our tour operator was not proficient in English, nor familiar with the places we planned to visit, which made it difficult to communicate in real time, frustrating once we arrived at our destination(s), or complete the tours they recommended. Most of the tours (5 out of 8) were not detailed and they missed the mark on punctuality, safety, quality and not being matched to what we had requested. One tour in particular, ~23 Km hike to- and around a volcano was inappropriately designed for our group, critical information was not provided until our pickup, and we had to terminate it early.
All airport and hotel transfers were adequate and on time.
Visiting Chilean Patagonia was an experience we will not forget; interesting history, diverse culture while the scenery is amazing, spectacular and mesmerizing. Being there made us forget about the logistics so poorly managed by this agency,

Island hopping in El Nido was amazing however was not as represented. We were told we would go to Big Lagoon, Entalula Island, Helicopter Island, Snake Island and Cadlao Lagoon. The above islands are actually a combination of 4 different tours and we were only able to see 2 of these locations.
The ATV ride was 90% city streets.
The Bohol Countryside Tour was great however we were unable to do the add on cable car tour due to our driver picking us up one hour late. This was not the drivers fault but a time issue between pick up company and Kimkim.

Dear Harish,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We truly value hearing from our guests, as it helps us ensure our services align with their expectations.

We were surprised to receive your 1-star review, as we remained in close contact throughout your journey, and no concerns were raised with us at the time.

While the services provided were exactly as outlined in your planning documents and final vouchers—where they were listed as shared—we truly regret that this led to a negative experience for you.

We would like to clarify the details regarding your arrangements. The services confirmed for your itinerary were shared group tours, as outlined during the booking process. Furthermore, the final travel documents and vouchers sent prior to your arrival also specified that these were shared services. At no point during our communication or in the documentation provided were these tours described as private.

Had we been made aware of your preference for private services while you were in Patagonia, we would have been more than happy to offer an upgrade to private tours, subject to availability and cost adjustments, to better suit your expectations.

Regarding the navigations in El Calafate and El Chaltén (specifically the Perito Moreno crossing and the Vespignani Glacier viewpoint), please note that these are operated by specialized local providers. Due to the unique nature of these routes, these vessels accommodate a larger number of travelers and are not operated as private charters unless specifically requested in advance.

We sincerely regret if there was any personal misunderstanding regarding the privacy of these tours. Our goal is always to provide a seamless experience, and I am sorry to hear that this aspect did not meet your expectations.

We truly hope that despite this, the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia left you with wonderful memories.
Warm regards from Buenos Aires,
Mery

My husband and I travel regularly and typically book our own travel, but wanted a local expert to assist with our trip to New Zealand and Michelle was fantastic. We gave her travel dates and a general idea of the itinerary we wanted. After a zoom call to get acquainted, she came back with a itinerary that was based on our requests. We took some time to review and discuss, made a few changes, and the trip was booked. We did not have to spend hours online evaluating possibilities, or wonder if the selections would meet our expectations.
We enjoyed a variety of accommodations and experiences, all with a unique flavor of New Zealand, which was our goal. The weather created a need to change some of our plans and Michelle was easy to contact and available to recommend changes in the time frame we needed.
We prefer not to be tightly booked, and so had much time to explore on our our own in addition to the activities scheduled by KimKim.
The travel book provided was a step by step itinerary that was extremely helpful as we navigated different modes of transportation including rental cars. tour buses and ferries. It provided directions to pickup/meeting points so that we were easily on our way moving from one spot to another.

KimKim did a very good job on planning our trip to Costa Rica but there were a couple of oopses once we got there. The times on one of the tours and one of the pickups changed and we were not notified (I'm sure because I printed the itinerary before we left). The guide we had on our volcano hike was just putting in the hours but the guide on our cloud forest tour made up for that. The accommodations were lovely though the Cloud Forest Lodge was isolated and their menu wasn't very expansive which would not have worked for more than the two days we were there. If you are going to the Cloud Forest from Arenal Volcano, or vice versa, do take the lake ferry - it was so relaxing! Holden, Adrian and Nancy did a really good job enabling us to see as much of Costa Rica as we could.

This lodge was interesting. Work has been done on it but the bathroom is huge which made no sense - our room could have been a suite if a bit of thought had gone into the planning. The staff was amazing, but the menu wasn't varied enough for more than a couple of days stay. Because it was isolated, getting out for a meal would have required extra effort. However, the view was spectacular.

I am writing this review as a first user of the KimKim platform for booking a trip. I have travelled with several other luxury and boutique companies. Here is my feedback regarding the overall experience:

- The travel agent should inquire regarding the interests of the guests and suggest places of interest. Here I was suggesting the places after my research and they were enabling it.
- Kim Kim travels has a very opaque pricing policy. You can review our text chat - you will note that when I added an extra day the pricing was increased by $3000 . I had to point it out and then it was brought down to the original estimate. That's not trustworthy.
- Travel agent did not highlight that the US citizens need Brazilian visa since April 2025. I had to scramble to get one.
- I called before reaching Iguazo falls regarding airport pick up- when I did not get a response I called the hotel to pick up- cost me extra for the pick up and buy the Iguazo Park tickets.
- We were promised a jazz show dinner on December 25th- when I reached Buenos Aires and inquired- they stated it was closed for the holiday- made me a hurried reservation for elsewhere for Jazz- there was no jazz there that night.
My trip to Iguazo falls was made memorable because I booked the Gran Melia hotel on my own. That was an amazing hotel with great views and excellent hospitality.
This was my most expensive trip abroad and I will hesitate to recommend Kim Kim - the company needs to have transparency and more engaged agents.

Hola Sheila!
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and such detailed feedback. We sincerely regret that some aspects of the trip did not meet your expectations, especially considering that this was such an important journey for you and your family.
Regarding the itinerary design, our approach is always to work collaboratively with our travelers: we suggest options based on the interests expressed while also incorporating the places the traveler wishes to include. In this case, several decisions were made based on your own preferences and personal research, which we aimed to accommodate within the available logistics.
In Iguazú, the transfer from the airport to the hotel had already been requested and confirmed as part of the trip services. We understand that, not having received immediate confirmation, you decided to arrange the transfer directly with the hotel; we would like to clarify that the contracted service was still active.
As for the jazz dinner show on December 25th, this activity appeared in the itinerary as a suggestion within a free-time block, including venue recommendations, and not as a confirmed or pre-booked service. The final decision to attend and the choice of venue were left to the traveler, subject to availability. We regret if this was not sufficiently clear and if it led to different expectations.
Regarding the visa requirement for Brazil, we acknowledge that this information should have been highlighted more clearly, and we regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
We appreciate your honesty. Feedback like yours helps us review our internal processes and continue improving the experience we offer. We are sorry that this trip did not fully meet your expectations, and we take each of the points you mention very seriously.

On a main highway so walking anywhere was not recommended. Being away from the restaurants/beaches/shopping, etc was a bit isolating. Room was spacious, employees were helpful and kind.
