I love exploring and have been traveling in Asian countries for more than fifteen years. As a Japan specialist, I have a deep affection for this country and I will use my knowledge and expertise to make your Japan trip an experience of a lifetime! Japan is a place where you can slow down your pace and heal your soul. It’s time for me to introduce this dream-like country to you.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I specialize in crafting immersive cultural tours tailored for culturally-minded travelers who have a passion for exploring Japan. My goal is to help them create an experience that aligns with their interests and desires, allowing them to absorb the rich history and culture of each carefully selected destination. Some highlights include UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Shirakawago Village and Nara 8.

For those seeking adventure, I offer walking excursions along the ancient Nakasendo Trail and the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Route nestled in picturesque mountains.

Families looking to introduce their children to the wonders of Japan can anticipate a blend of exciting activities. From engaging with samurai and ninjas to the rhythmic beats of Taiko drumming, and from scenic hikes and bike rides to hands-on sushi classes, there's a diverse range of experiences to cater to every member of the family.
"

How did you get involved in travel?

"I graduated from university in the late 90’s, a tourism booming time. Cultural exchanges were very frequent. My sister married a Japanese man who also helped me with a lot of easy visits to Japan, and I made lots of friends there. That was when I started to have true feelings for the nice people there. Then I learned they also needed someone to guide them around, so I started to work as a tour guide and have been in travel since."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"For me, the trip to a remote village in the Vietnamese countryside is the most unforgettable. I visited a local family there and lived with them for several days. By the end of the visit, I was literally a member of that family! Today, the little girl of that family whose tuition I used to finance has already graduated from university. Travel is not only for experiencing the culture and seeing the breathtaking landscape but also for giving back to the local community!"

I can't say enough about KimKim and our agent Angel, and how seamless the trip she put together for us, was. The experiences - knife making in Kyoto, kintsugi in Tokyo, visiting the kaga yuzen master in Kanazawa - were wonderful, fun, and informative, real learning experiences about each craft and its history. The guides were each great. They were each thoughtful, attentive, a wealth of knowledge and information, fluent in English, on time, and receptive to our inputs as we went through our time with them. They were also founts of information about what to do during our times on our own, where to go for particular interests (e.g., purchasing indigo fabric in Osaka, restaurants in each city, gardens to visit, where to purchase ceramics), and general information about each city, including providing a detailed understanding of how to use public transportation in Tokyo & Osaka. All local arrangements were also perfect - pickups at airports and hotels, train and hotel reservations. One small thing - we found hotel rooms to be on the small side, and in Tokyo & Kyoto, upgraded to larger rooms on our arrival. Had we paid closer attention to the information about the hotel rooms we were booked into, we would have handled this prior to departure. I see this as something that was our responsibility. In summary, we were very pleased, we would consult with Angel and KimKim first on any trip in their domain for our future travel, and we are highly recommending Angel and KimKim to all of our friends and family!

Planning a pilgrimage as meaningful and complex as the 88 Temple Pilgrimage in Japan requires extraordinary coordination, care, and expertise — and our travel specialist Angel, exceeded every expectation.

From the very beginning, every logistical detail was handled with precision and professionalism. The itinerary was thoughtfully organized, transportation was seamless, hotel arrangements were comfortable and perfectly located, and every reservation — from temple visits to dinners — was flawlessly executed. The timing throughout the journey was exceptional, allowing our group to experience the pilgrimage deeply without ever feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

What truly made this experience unforgettable was the incredible team assigned to accompany us. Every member of the support staff was attentive, knowledgeable, kind, and deeply committed to ensuring our group felt supported throughout the pilgrimage. Their cultural understanding, patience, and ability to anticipate our needs created a sense of ease and trust that allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the spiritual and personal aspects of the journey.

The dinner experiences were another highlight — beautifully selected venues that introduced us to authentic Japanese cuisine while also accommodating the needs of our group with care and thoughtfulness. Every day reflected an extraordinary level of preparation and attention to detail.

Coordinating a large group on a pilgrimage of this scale is no small task, yet everything felt effortless because of the dedication and excellence behind the scenes. We are profoundly grateful for the care, professionalism, and heart that went into creating this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I would recommend this agency and Angel as the best team without hesitation to anyone considering a pilgrimage or group journey in Japan. Their expertise transformed an already meaningful trip into something truly extraordinary.

I created a specialized itinerary and Kim Kim agent Angel was able to coordinate beautifully. Japan is a lovely country with so many great sites not to be missed. We hit the highlights of Tokyo, Hakone, Mt. Fuji, Kyoto and Osaka. What I like most was working in partnership with KimKim to have the type of experience we wanted: a little hustle, a little laid back, key historical sites without being overwhelmed with too much, and lots of fun activities.
Pros:
1. Angel is an absolute gem to work with. She was responsive to my needs, listened carefully, alway with kindness, humor and professionalism.
2. The itinerary was affordable, considering we did not want to be on a tour bus with 20 others each day, allowing us independence while able to join in group activities on some days.
3. Each day, Angel would check in with the daily itin and schedule, including all tickets, maps, timing. Loved that.
Cons:
1. With the exception of Tokyo and Hakone, the hotels in Kyoto and Osaka were located far away from anything...more like office park areas, not walkable to anything. As this was my first time to Japan, hotel locations are essential to enjoyment, and this was dissapointing.
2. Due to those 2 hotel locations, we had to use uber or public transport to get anywhere, costing a lot of money and time that I didn't expect. I would suggest KimKim to review hotel locations that are tourist friendly and walkable to restaurants, stores, etc.
3. I was quoted a price for my initial itinerary, complete with hotels. Two weeks before departure, I was reviewing the itin and realized I needed more transportation built in, like train to hotel transfers, pick up/drop off from tours. I requested this and was quoted a huge amount, which was then negotiated down as we discussed the actuality. However, in the last quote, included was the price for my first hotel stay of 3 nights. This was odd and unexpected, I thought this was included in the initial quote, which it appeared to be. Confusing and not good.
Overall experience:
Loved this trip and Angel was a delight to work with.

Staff
Everyone helpful and happy to help

Budget hotel that has no reception desk - it's all automated like self serve check out. The lobby is a storage area for luggage with no comfort or amenities, like water or coffee. Room amenities are at the elevator door, it's all self serve. Why this is rated 3 stars is questionable. Took one look at small room with lumpy double bed and immediated left for another property.

Authenticity & Character
Good for students or those on limited budget.
Location
Located near nothing...no stores or restaurants, sans Lawsons Family store 2 blocks away.

What a serence little property. I was looking for a traditional onsen experience and this hit all the marks and them some. The reception was full hands on, being greated at the door, escorted to a small seating area for a personalised check in. Our room had a nice floor seating area and a private outdoor sitting pool, facing the mountains. The amenities were top of the line, so much that I purchased as they offered for sale in the nice gift shop. The hotel includes dinner and breakfast, what I did not expect, and was utterly delighted by, is that both meals are served privately in your own dining area. Truly an incredible experience.

Authenticity & Character

We each have done a fair amount of traveling on our own and arranging our own trips with family and friends but this time relied on KimKim to make our arrangements.

Their local day trip guides were extremely knowledgable, thoughtful, kind and with a sense of humor. We appreciated times when the various local guides adjusted the schedule or site given to avoid the crowds. Sometimes we explored new places and had to adjust the schedule given unknown circumstances. The experiences felt unique while at the same time we were visiting major sites. So many places we went were so special. We made a number of requests in the beginning and made a few major adjustments just before embarking. When we had an unexpected emergency she responded immediately --anticipating the next steps with calm.

I wish Angel could arrange all my trips.

We’re not typically “tour bus” travelers, so we wanted the freedom to explore on our own while still having the support and security of a tour company—and this trip delivered exactly that.
Angel, our contact at Kimkim, arranged everything seamlessly, including hotels, transportation, and local guides in each town we visited. Throughout the journey, Angel stayed in touch, which gave us great peace of mind.
In Tokyo, our guide Koiku was excellent. Not only did they show us many key attractions, but they also taught us how to navigate the subway and train systems, giving us the confidence to explore independently.
The hotels along the way were consistently clean, comfortable, and very welcoming. Traveling by train between destinations was smooth and easy to manage.
In Takayama, our guide Ikue introduced us to off-the-beaten-path spots we never would have discovered on our own. Masa, our driver and guide through the mountains to Kanazawa, was both informative and entertaining, and made the journey truly special by taking us to some lesser-known locations.
In Kanazawa, our guide Ai went above and beyond. She not only provided an excellent tour, but also took us to her favorite restaurant and even helped us make arrangements for an event the following day—on her day off. Truly exceptional service.
Overall, the trip was incredibly well organized and made for a comfortable, stress-free experience. A big thank you to Angel and the Kimkim team—I would absolutely travel with them again on a future adventure.

Working with Angel via kimkim was fantastic! She was very patient with my many questions, requests, and concerns. She was very responsive as well. She planned a fantastic, kid-friendly trip to Japan. I wouldn't have changed anything! I would definitely use kimkim again, and I would recommend Angel if planning a trip to Japan! Read more

Our full day tour with Ai from Kanazawa Tours was fantastic! She is very knowledgeable and passionate about the history and culture of Kanazawa. The entire tour was interesting and educational, and she explained everything so it was easy for the kids to understand. Speaking of the kids, she interacted with them so well! It's clear that she loves children and went out of her way to make sure they were having a good time. I would absolutely recommend requesting Ai for this tour, especially if traveling with children!

Part 2 from Emily G: A few highlights and recommendations from this trip: Hakone - spend at least two nights and days in Hakone - hot springs area. A great place to wind down at the end of the trip. Lovely. Go to the Open Air Museum! Leisurely enjoy the baths. Ride the gondola (ropeway) and take walks. Loved MIyajima Island (after a sobering and important day in Hiroshima). Had only one night and wished we had 2. Much to explore and at a slower pace. Loved Takayama - much more than Kanazawa.... Read more

Loved Takayama - much more than Kanazawa. 3 nights there is good. Bike ride outside of town with Tomo! Dinner at Alba! (tiny place, make a rez, tell Juske you learned about it from the women from San Francisco, etc). Two days walking on the Nakasendo Trail. So beautiful to be out walking in nature most of the day and not too hard at all - but i would add a 3rd day if you have time. All of our hotels were comfortable EXCEPT don't stay at ACAI in Kyoto. Too "hip", tiny rooms, you can do better. Of course you will visit the many shrines, temples and castles and I enjoyed them much more than I expected - and you will go to Tokyo (explore the neighborhoods), Osaka, Kyoto (go to the Philosophers Walk) if this is your first visit; and we heard of SO many other places to explore. One more thing - among the many benefits of working with KimKim are the many guided excursions and day trips/city tours that they plan. Every guide was Excellent! and went above and beyond in many ways, Ask for Yumi in Tokyo; Sumi in Kyoto; Fumi in Kanazawa. Ernesto in Nara; Mayumi in Nara and Hiroshima. Arigato! BTW, this trip went so well that we are already planning a second KimKim trip in February in New Zealand and impressed with the help of our specialist, Michelle!
