Having grown up and lived my entire life in a place as special as Antigua Guatemala, has allowed me to involve myself in the world of travel and tourist experiences. My family is from this area and I am passionate about the experiences and perspectives that come when you connect with people from different parts of the world.
My many years as an adventure leader and guide testify to how much I love being part of real and unforgettable experiences, specially creating a cultural bond between locals and travelers.
I feel lucky to be part of the Old Town Outfitters team, as we have been the leaders in Guatemala adventure travel for over 27 years. Our philosophy is based around supporting the local economy via the employment of local guides, promoting responsible travel, and sponsoring meaningful local NGO's.

How did you get involved in travel?
"My parents established a Spanish school long before I was born, focused on tourists from all over the world. Since I was a child, I have always been surrounded by different people and cultures. In my innocent childhood mentality, I was so engaged and curious to see happiness in the interaction and connections of many people who came through the school.
My professional focus has always been tied to customer service, but it was in 2017 when Old Town Outfitters, Matt, and Chris extended me an opportunity to guide outdoor activities such as kayaking, volcano trekking, and mountain biking around Guatemala and Belize, a job that I enjoyed deeply and that has informed my approach to life ever since."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"Years ago, I traveled with my now wife and my in-laws to Saint Lucia. This was the first time I traveled internationally, which made it incredibly special for me!
I was delighted with the culture of such a small island; the people were genuinely nice and helpful, but what made it so special was our guide, who took us to a beautiful beach where we could snorkel and kayak through some of the mangroves.
I understood firsthand how valuable the company of someone local can be to get to know the local culture and history much better. He introduced us to many people with whom we spent several days enjoying conversations and stories over beers and coconuts by the sea."

The staff at Ka'ana Resort were real professionals. Everyone was warm and helpful. The canoe trip in Barton Creek through the caves was an amazing experience. And everyone in our group raved about the snorkeling at Hol Chan/Shark Ray Alley during our stay in San Pedro. Thank you to Alex for arranging our trip.

Just one thing about that particular day .... At 8: 00 AM we were expecting to get picked up. When he did arrive at approximately 8:40 we realized there were several of the people on the tour and that's why he was delayed. It would have been nice to know there was going to be a wait time.

I had reached out to Alex to help me fulfill a bucket list item--spending Holy Week in Antigua, to see the carpets of flowers and the religious processions. He designed a custom trip for me that included the religious aspects and so much more. During my five-day stay, I took a boat ride on Lake Atitlán, saw the preparations for the processions and the process of carpet-making up close, visited a coffee farm, a family chocolate factory, a macadamia nut farm, and had a textile lesson. I attended Mass on Easter Sunday, including yet another procession. I was booked at the beautiful resort-like hotel, La Porta. All the while, I had a personal guide, Diana, who explained the history and customs of everything I saw. Our driver, Manuel, skillfully drove us everywhere we needed to go. Alex was always available for questions and help. He even met me at the airport when I arrived to introduce himself. All in all, it was a beautiful, meaningful experience. As a solo traveler, I felt safe and cared for. I am so glad I did this. I definitely recommend KimKim for special trips like the one I just enjoyed.

This was the second time we have used KimKim to help us plan a holiday in Central America, and would not hesitate to recommend them
Our most recent trip was to Belize, where we were fortunate to have guidance and support from Alex Conrado. He was so very helpful in his advice and professional knowledge of locations (we particularly wanted wildlife, nature, birds) and places to stay within our budget. He booked all the locations and arranged connecting transport which were all reliable and comfortable. All our trips to additional experiences (for instance on one transfer, we had time to stop and enjoy cave tubing through a cave system - something we would not have known about with Alex suggesting it) were reliably on time, with kind and knowledgeable drivers/guides who made us so welcome.
Our holiday was so much richer with the additional input provided by Alex, as he knows the country and what opportunities would be available to us in each of our chosen locations.
He also took the time to meet us when we happened to be in Antigua in Guatemala when he was there. We really enjoyed meeting face to face, and putting a face to a name, such a lovely opportunity for us.
Thanks Alex, 5 gold stars from us!

Falling Leaves Lodge

Lovely location, within walking distance of Cahel Pech ruins. Lovely breakfasts/evening meals, overlooking the canopy, great pool to cool off in at the end of a day. Saw a kinkajou, aguti and ferruginous pygmy owl in the grounds. Staff very kind and helpful. Restaurant overlooking views of San Ignacio.
Parrot Cove Lodge
Placencia
Loved the location. Easy to walk along safe beach, great for swimming and photographing brown pelicans and frigate birds. Breakfasts fine, overlooking beach. Evening meals expensive, but there are lots of other places to explore including an Italian restaurant (La Tratoria) nearby for reasonable delicious meals. Staff very kind and so helpful. Room very quiet and comfortable with lovely hot shower.
Birds Eye View Lodge and Tours Belize

What a wonderful location. The views over the lagoon are superb. We thoroughly recommend the early morning boat birding tour with Leonard, whose knowledge cannot be bettered. We also enjoyed several birding walks both around the lodge, on the shoreline and in the pine forest, all wonderful. A night walk was also a great experience.
Food was traditional and delicious (though too much salt - for our taste and health, is added to many dishes - our only recommendation, especially as there are salt and pepper pots on every table should one prefer).
Every member of staff was kind and helpful and we felt looked after the whole time we were there (5 nights).
Day trip to Laminai was great day trip.
Thoroughly recommend and came away having seen over 100 species of different birds!

Having visited Mayan ruins at Tikal, Cahel Pech and Laminai our visit to Xunantunich was by far the best.
The drive there was over a hand cranked car ferry, which was fun. Our guide used to work as an archaeologist on this site, so was extremely knowledgeable and had both the official story and his own ideas - so wonderful.

30 mile boat trip to Laminai, on a speed boat. Would have preferred the boat to have travelled more slowly, but appreciate that there would not have been enough time, as the boat trip was already an hour long. Felt the speeding boats on the river did little to enhance any animals in the water or on the surrounding trees on the banks of the river.
