How does kimkim work?
kimkim works in 3 simple steps:
1/ You select your destination and then go through a quick, fun onboarding process to tell us what kind of experience you are looking for;
2/ Based on your requirements, you will be connected to a knowledgeable travel specialist who will put together a trip plan based on your input via our messaging system;
3/ Once you are 100% happy with the plan, you can book your trip via our secure payment system.
How much does it cost to use kimkim?
kimkim connects you directly to local, knowledgeable travel specialists. We don’t charge anything until you decide to book your trip through us. A 5% service fee is added to the total price of the trip to help us run our business, provide a secure payment platform and provide customer service
How does kimkim make money?
We make money if you decide to book your trip through kimkim, by taking a share of the profit made by our local partners and by adding a small booking fee that helps us run our global network of trusted travel specialists. In some cases, we ask for a more substantial planning fee. This usually applies to complex trips involving unusual requirements and/or cases where kimkim staff work on your trip plan. This will always be communicated clearly, providing travelers with a clear choice to proceed.
How do your prices compare with what I’d pay elsewhere?
Since kimkim connects you directly to local specialists in the destination, we are able to offer highly competitive prices. We don’t have expensive infrastructure that some of the large booking sites have.
What if I find cheaper prices elsewhere on the web?
It is rare that you’ll find a cheaper price for exactly the same product, since we work directly with highly reputable in-destination specialists. However, if you find a cheaper rate, please let us know and we will do our best to match it.
How do I know that your advice is unbiased?
We are successful if, and only if, our travelers are happy with their experience. Thus, we’re focused day in and day out on making sure that we provide the best possible advice and trip plans tailored to each traveler’s unique requirements. We don’t favor certain hotels, certain tour guides, or certain destinations; we simply try to make sure that what we propose is the best fit for you. Additionally, we aim to be as transparent as possible by showing ratings and reviews for our specialists, thereby giving travelers as much information as possible to make sure they can decide whether our offering makes sense for them.
Who are the specialists?
Our specialists have extensive experience in the travel industry, often running their own travel operations. Most of our specialists live in the destination in which they provide trip planning services. Many of them are so-called “Global Nomads”. For instance, one of our specialists hails from Denmark, and now splits his time between Nepal and Australia. Another one was born and raised in Japan, lived in Hawaii for many years and is now based on California. The kimkim team is based in California, but all of them were born and raised somewhere else, ranging from the Netherlands, Canada, France, Russia, Japan and China. All of us love to travel and love to share our passion with travelers from all over the world.
How do I know I can trust an specialist on kimkim?
Since our specialists are a key part of kimkim’s product offering, we take great care in making sure we have knowledgeable, experienced and passionate people on our platform. Our specialists go through a rigorous interview and training process. Most of them have many years of successful experience planning and booking trips and tours. Additionally, we show ratings and reviews for our specialists on their profile.
Who is the team behind kimkim?
kimkim was founded by a team of experienced travel entrepreneurs. Before founding kimkim, we worked on other travel products, including TripAdvisor. We started kimkim because we felt frustrated with the current state of travel planning and booking products. We want to bring the personal touch back in travel planning and booking.
Are you just like a traditional travel agent?
Yes and no. We love the personal touch that great travel agents bring into the travel planning and booking process, but we are not “just another travel agent”. We aim to combine the best of both worlds: the high-touch service of a traditional travel agent with state-of-the-art mobile messaging technology. We’re building a marketplace where our specialists are freelancers who can devote as much time as they want to helping kimkim travelers plan and book trips.
Does kimkim help book international flights?
No, currently we focus on the “in-destination” experience only: hotels, transport, and activities.
Why was my credit card declined?
If your credit card was declined during payment, this is often due to your bank protecting your account against unusual payments. Please call your bank directly to see if this is the case. If so, you can approve this transaction and then submit your payment on kimkim again.
