I love to travel and discover new places. Born and raised in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, I grew up admiring the rich history of my city and the breathtaking landscapes of the Andes. I have been involved in tourism for over 4 years; I’m passionate about exploring my country and helping travelers from around the world create unforgettable memories as they experience the megadiversity of Ecuador.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Ecuador is the perfect destination for travelers seeking to experience the best of nature and wildlife. I love to show the highlights of the country and create itineraries that feature hikes in the Andes, cultural experiences in the Amazon rainforest, and encounters with unique wildlife in the Galápagos Islands."

How did you get involved in travel?

"I worked for many years at the front desk of a hotel in Quito and always enjoyed meeting people from other countries. During the Covid pandemic, due to a reduction in hotel staff, I took on responsibilities from another department. Without realizing it, I began helping guests plan day trips to Cotopaxi National Park and Mindo. From that moment, I understood I wanted to share my passion for Ecuador with travelers, and pursue this path."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"It was probably the first time I visited the Galapagos Islands. For me, it felt like discovering another world. Encountering the giant tortoises like Lonesome George, snorkeling with sea lions and sharks, and observing all the animals that inhabit the islands was unforgettable. It fueled my passion for nature and wildlife."

We were particularly interested in seeing traditional weaving, and our guide/driver David Galarza went "above and beyond" to track down weaving communities for us. We were able to try our hand at weaving and dyeing in a couple of places (Otavalo and Gualaceo) and we would absolutely recommend this to anyone interested in traditional crafts. The national park at Cotopaxi is also a wonder. We finished our trip with a few days in the Galapagos islands, which live up to expectations with wildlife and much else to see. Thank you David and Paul!

We visited the shawl weaving workshop at Gualaceo (about 40 mins drive from Cuenca), where they make traditional shawls (macanas), with ikat designs and macrame fringes. You can see the whole process, and the visit is fascinating. Recommended. We also visited a weaver (Mama Rosa) in Saraguro district. She is about 3 hours drive from Cuenca, and absolutely charming and welcoming. If you are interested in weaving you should also definitely visit her for demonstrations of natural dyeing and weaving on a backstrap loom. Hi Chris,

I wanted to thank you for your kind words about David’s guidance, our services, and our country. I’m very happy to hear that you and Sandra had a great time visiting Ecuador and that you had the chance to visit weaving artisans and learn about their techniques. I’m sure you’ll share great stories with your colleagues. As you mentioned, it’s a wonderful experience for anyone visiting Ecuador to learn about these traditions.

I look forward to seeing the pictures you took. I’m sure there are some great memories to share! 🤗

Going to the Galápagos Islands was the trip of a lifetime! We would have been lost without our travel agent, Paul Cisneros from Kim Kim. Paul arranged excellent accommodations for us. He arranged for drivers to pick us up and take us to where we needed to go every step of the way. Paul arranged all of our tours and tour guides. We felt safe and reassured by his planning and expertise. Paul even helped to troubleshoot when we experienced translation problems and website glitches with the TCT cards. Everything ran so smoothly because of the planning and arrangements that Paul made.

As for the trip itself, we were in awe of the wildlife experiences that we had. Both land and sea adventures were unique, informative and amazing. Land animals that we saw in the Galápagos Islands included sea lions (not seals as we learned!), Galapagos and Saddleback tortoises (many sightings!), blue footed boobies, frigate birds, many other birds, Sally Lightfoot crabs, lava lizards, land iguanas (lots of them!). Marine animals included sea turtles (my personal favourite!), a sea horse, different kinds of rays (eagle rays, sting rays, maybe a marble ray), sharks, puffer fish, and so, so many colourful fish (like in Finding Nemo). On the mainland, our cultural tour of Quito felt like we were stepping back in time to an older world from days gone by. The Middle of the Earth tour was fun and interesting. We love our pictures from standing on the line of the equator.

We loved each and every hotel that we stayed at. The Ikala Quito Hotel had well appointed rooms and the staff were lovely. Hotel Fiesta in Puerto Ayora was spectacular! The pool area with bar was so nice to relax at and the gardens were gorgeous! We were travelling as an adult family and our room had a main room with a king size bed and a side room with two single beds. It was quite spacious. The Albemarle in Puerto Villamil was right on the beach and had a roof top terrace looking east, south and west. You could catch both the sunrise and the sunset. It even had a communal clothesline on the roof where you could dry your swimsuits (a small thing but something I really appreciated!). Lastly, we stayed at the Wyndham Airport Hotel in Quito on our last night. It is in the shape of a condor, which makes it an interesting piece of architecture. It is quite a posh hotel and the restaurant there is excellent. The shuttle service is under 5 minutes to the airport.

In summary, this was the trip of a lifetime for us and was everything we had hoped for. We are so grateful for the experience!

P.S. The following people were excellent as tour guides/coordinators (in no particular order): Robert, Ricardo, Michael, Alexis, Diego, Salome, Julio. There were others along the way who played a more minor role in our trip but each one was competent, friendly and helpful. In fact, my husband and I commented that Ecuadorians cultivate a culture of excellence not always seen in other parts of the world.

We loved this hotel. It's right on the beach in Puerta Villamil. There is a courtyard inside with a small pool and lovely garden. The walkways to the room overlook the courtyard. Besides being on the beach, what we loved most was the roof top terrace. We spent lovely evenings up there watching the gorgeous sunsets. There are tables and chairs there to relax and have a beer. One small thing that I really liked was that there was a communal clothes line on the rooftop terrace so you could hang your wet swimsuits there to dry. A small thing but I really appreciated it.

We also stopped in at an Ecuadorian candy maker with "surprising" candies and a chocolate maker where we had a chocolate tasting experience. Quite delicious! The Monserrat yacht was a bit of a disappointment. The cabins were much smaller than the pictures implied, and the storage space was inadequate. The guides, Javier and Karem, were excellent; however, there should be more information provided BEFORE the trip detailing the level of activity involved. We found that some of the hikes were too strenuous for my wife. While she was okay with skipping some of them, she was disappointed that she missed out on some of the wildlife and scenery she was hoping to see.
The Quito excursions were well done and our guides, Alex and Roberto, were very capable, friendly and well informed.
The hotel accommodations, the Patio Andaluz in Quito, the Acacia Hotel in Puerto Ayora, and the Holiday Inn in Quito, were excellent! The hotel staffs were uniformly friendly and quite welcoming. We would recommend all of them!

The cabins were much smaller than implied by the pictures on their website. The storage space was inadequate (we ended up storing one suitcase in the shower); and the bathroom was small and somewhat awkward to use. While the yacht was in generally good condition, there were some areas that needed attention (sticking windows, minor rust, etc.). The onboard excursion staff was very good. They were very informative and very competent. And very friendly! The crew was friendly too but suffered from some communication miscues as English was not always understood. It did create some confusion at meal times. The ship did not offer any diet soft drinks.

While this was a more conventional hotel, and did not have the charms of the other hotels, it was a very nice property. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was quite good, with a nice selection of food choices and reasonable prices. The rooms were quite comfortable with all the necessary amenities.

Acacia Galápagos Boutique Hotel
Puerto Ayora

This is a wonderful place to stay in Puerto Ayora! The rooms are large, very well appointed, and the beds are very, very comfortable! Carolina and her staff were wonderful- very friendly and helpful, with excellent recommendations for dining. The included breakfast was amazing- fruit, yogurt, granola, fresh juices, eggs cooked to order, various breakfast meats, toast, potatoes- if you left hungry it was your own fault! Highly recommended!

Patio Andaluz
Quito

Fabulous location; excellent staff - warm and welcoming! The hotel building is a historic location and has been completely renovated. Lovely large rooms with comfortable beds. The only negative is the spiral staircase to the upper level bedroom- rather steep and narrow and a bit difficult to maneuver in the dark. Otherwise, a nice hotel!

Hi dear Jerry,

Thank you very much for your feedback about the cruise, and I’m sorry to hear it was a bit disappointing due to the cabin size and that Kerry wasn’t able to participate in all the activities. Your comments are extremely valuable, as they help us keep improving our services and how we explain activity levels, so future travelers can have the best possible experience in our country.

On the other hand, I truly appreciate your kind words, and I’m very glad to hear that overall you enjoyed the trip, liked the hotels, and found the guides in both Quito and the Galapagos to be excellent.

I hope our paths cross again in the future! 😊

Warm greetings from Quito,
Paul
