Amice van der Burg

Sri Lanka, my home for the past 15 years, offers such a perfect and diverse blend of stunning nature, culture, architecture, revitalizing outdoors activities, and spiritual pursuits including yoga and meditation for bliss-seekers. It is a truly multi-cultural melting pot and harmony of religions, languages, and cultures which go back to the Veda’s, various Asian and Middle Eastern visitors, followed by Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial times. Our food is amazing and varied. Sri Lanka is a happening place – life is never boring and it is full of positive energy, change, and activity. Yet the country's tropical greenery and spiritual depth ease us into a state of peace with ourselves and all beings. Our multicultural team at Experiental journeys aims to provide you with comprehensive travel advice and support.
Tot ziens!

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"From the planning of the trip to before you pack and during your time here, I want to you to gain fresh and new perspectives from us and at the same time ensure you feel genuinely looked after. I'd love for you to fully enjoy our broad range of revitalizing, rejuvenating and relaxing outdoors activities including wildlife and safari’s, trekking, cycling, water sports, yoga and more through authentic experiences and real human encounters. Given I immersed myself in different cultures from childhood, I understand the requirements of overseas travelers when it comes to a transformative or even life-changing experience, vacation, or even moment. Who knows you may want to spend your honeymoon here!

When making inquiries for your holiday, if you are more comfortable to write or speak in Dutch or German, please feel free to do so. If you happen to book our own Ahaspokuna Bush Walks Lodge with yoga lessons, probably I’ll be personally welcoming you there as your yoga teacher."

How did you get involved in travel?

"I started traveling with my parents at the age of 3. My first childhood memories were running around in a beautiful garden in Germany during hot summers. Born in the Netherlands, similar in size to Sri Lanka, our parents ensured we were exposed to various activities, cultures, and countries from early childhood; from museums and main cities in Europe, to mountain walking and skiing in Switzerland, and cultural trips in Indonesia. I continued this tradition of travel throughout my academic studies and professional life, a majority of which I've spent abroad. Since settling down in Sri Lanka in 2003, I traveled most of the country, including our own lodges and camps. Having now left behind a corporate and legal career spanning over twenty years, I moved over to Ecoteam / Experiental Journeys to join a team which stands out in the travel trade, enabling me to lead a healthy and vibrant lifestyle doing the things I love most.
"

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Having been immersed in different cultures from early childhood including Indonesia, upon traveling through Sri Lanka for the first time in 1992 I was instantly fascinated by the kindness of its people, the variety of experiences, sights, and offerings and I returned to Sri Lanka in early 2000 for some fantastic yoga. Happiness is built on the foundations of good mental and physical health which are of priceless value. Since many years and now as an established yoga teacher trained in Bali and Thailand, Sri Lanka is my home!"
