Becca Franks

I'm originally from Pasadena, California, but after years of traveling and living abroad, I finally settled in Granada, Spain in 2018 and have called it home ever since. As a traveler myself, I love showing people the beauty of Spain through unique cultural experiences! For me, travel is not only about enjoyment but also about gaining profound insights into the world and self-discovery. It is so rewarding to witness the genuine excitement and appreciation as travelers immerse themselves in Spanish culture!

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I specialize in personalized itineraries with unique activities in Spain, particularly in the areas of Granada, Malaga and the Costa del Sol, Tarifa, Barcelona, Valencia, Galicia, and the islands of Tenerife and Mallorca."

How did you get involved in travel?

"While I was in college, I studied abroad program in Barcelona, Spain. This experience had a profound impact on me, as it opened up the world to me as a place with more possibilities and opportunities than I had ever imagined. I was inspired to travel as much as I could, and after I graduated, I left to be an au pair in Australia, later teaching English in Vietnam and Taiwan. After discovering Workaway and HelpEx, websites that put you in touch with people all over the world looking for volunteers in exchange for room and board, I volunteered in places like hostels and meditation centers in Morocco, Mexico, and India. Since being based in Spain, my passion for travel has not wavered, and I still go on frequent trips, especially within Spain."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"In Vietnam, I went on a motorbike trip to Pu Luong Nature Reserve in the north part of the country. It’s a gorgeous mountainous landscape filled with rice paddy fields, rivers, and forests. My partner and I drove to a homestay in a remote village in the middle of the park. At a certain point Google Maps no longer showed the road we were on, so we had to ask locals which way the village was. They did their best to explain, seeing as we didn’t speak each other's languages. One kind soul even drew a map in the dirt to aid us. We ended up on some muddy, narrow roads going up the mountain. After several nerve-racking hours, we made it to the village just before sunset, being welcomed into our homestay with a delicious homemade dinner in a house on stilts overlooking a deep valley full of rice fields. Waking up to that view after such a harrowing journey is one of my most spectacular memories. "
