Claudia Meloni

When I was 17 I left the nest and since then, I move out every 6 months. I love discovering new countries and culture. And most of all, I love meeting new people.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Of course, I am specialized in my birthplace Corsica."

How did you get involved in travel?

"As I live on an island, (Corsica) traveling is quite obvious. Since I am a child, it has always appeared as natural to me and this is how my parents raised me. That is why I wanted to work in a place which helps people to travel. This way, I never have the feeling to work!"

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"When I was 9, my father, his friend and children and I, have traveled through the Saharan desert by car. Once the air-conditioning broke down. Of course, there were not a lot of villages on our road. We had to look for a garage owner and it was hard to find. This problem allowed us to meet awesome people that we would never have met otherwise. At this point, we changed the way we wanted to travel. We realized that the best way to travel was to meet people in the country and not just stay amongst ourselves."

While our trip to Corsica was fantastic and the 4-day walk we did amazing - the whole experience was let down by the poor communication of logistics once we were on the ground.

1. Most egregious was the omission of details about where we would be staying each night along the 4 day hike!!! We didn't even know the names of the accommodation (much less contact details) and had to ask the initial luggage porter where he was dropping our bags the first night. For the following nights we had to ask our accommodation hosts each morning to phone around the next night's town to find out who was expecting us! Luckily one of our party spoke fluent french, or otherwise this could have been a complete disaster...

(On a bright note all of the accommodation was very good and clean. And the hosts were superb - helpful, friendly, welcoming).

2. The route and topographic maps supplied were very poor quality photocopies. They made navigating very difficult. I strongly suggest either including proper trekking maps in the price of the trip or charge a small surplus to do so!

3. The route description booklet could/should be improved with additional photographs & details - especially for key landmarks and tricky intersections. Also I'm not convinced the distance estimates were accurate... Our own GPS devices reported that each day was longer than stated. For example the first day was supposed to be 11-12km but was in fact +15km.

While none of these issues ended up ruining the trip, they certainly made it more challenging for no good reason. Fortunately the beautiful countryside, delicious food and wine, and wonderful people we met along the way are what we will remember from our time walking across Corsica!

Hi Laura,

First I would like to thank you for taking time to give us your feedback.
We are happy you enjoyed the walks and the accomodations.

About the communication we gave you our Emergency number to reach us quickly.
About the accomodation this is surprising we always give the hotel list. At least Lorraine had it ?
We take into account your feedback about the route and topographic map to improve it.

Thank you !
Claudia

We trekked from Corte to Evisa over 4 days in July so the weather this year was hot- often in the mid 30's. It was usually a moderate walk with some hard areas so the beautiful cold swimming holes found in the streams were a very welcome site a couple of times a day and made all the difference to our hike. Without them the weather would have been far to hot to enjoy.

Each hotel had its own charm and we very much enjoyed them.

We missed the train ride due to incorrect timetable information provided ( traveling on a public holiday) and that was a shame. However that hiccup was quickly overcome and Emanuel drove us where we needed to be. We were very relieved about that.
Given the small cost of the boat trip we think that fare could have been included in the package with a voucher ( like the train voucher)
The Colonna hotel was fantastic. But it's a long way out of the centre. There was no shuttle and no taxi which is an issue. We suggest you lobby them for a shuttle service in the evenings early in the tourist season so guests can dine in the town centre. Or maybe the hotel could offer the use of some e-bikes?
The Calvi Hotel while adequate did not compare to the standards of the other two. We wonder whether a better 4 star hotel exists in town? For example there was no wifi operating for our entire stay
These are small details. Overall we enjoyed our trip and loved Corsica!

The trip was very well-planned according to our requests. Lodging was good to very good. The people who picked up our luggage for transfers were always extremely punctual and reliable. Our only issue had both a good and bad side. Arriving the first week in October meant that there were no crowds, less traffic, and it was easy to get into restaurants. The bad news was that many things were already closed for the season and were unavailable. One glaring example was that when we went to use our voucher for a boat transfer in St. Florent the water taxi had closed for the season. With great persistence and very little French we were able to arrange for a private boat to take us. Although we made sure that everything went as planned, I think it's important for others planning a trip at that time to know that it is definitely post-season and they should know in advance that many places will be closed. Also - I felt that some of the hikes were much more rigorous than described. In English there is a difference between a path (very well-groomed and generally flat) and a trail (well-marked but rougher terrain). The "paths" in St. Florent (along the coast) and Corté (in the mountains) were very rugged trails that, for me (65-yr. old woman) required walking sticks and a knee brace that I didn't bring. All in all, Corsica is a beautiful place and we thank Kim Kim for making our wonderful trip possible!

Had an amazing time on our short, self-guided bike trip through Tuscany. The area is beautiful, especially the stretch from the outskirts of Florence to Radda in Chianti. Lots of wineries with consistently good wine. Everything was well coordinated in terms of bike delivery, luggage transport, and hotel booking. Had some initial difficulty with the bikes and with navigation but everything went smoothly afterwards.
