Herbert Snorrason
When I was growing up, my father was a hiking guide in the Hornstrandir nature preserve, in which area his mother had been raised. My mother's father had been raised on another farm in that region. Staying there, and occasionally hiking around the area, was one of the fixed points in my early life - and still is. Travel elsewhere in Iceland, both around the Westfjords and elsewhere, came quite naturally. Although my father no longer works as a guide, my two brothers picked up his mantle, working in various places around the country, eventually followed by myself.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"More or less the whole of Iceland is my specialty, although I tend to focus on the areas outside of the mainstream, with a special focus on my home region of the Westfjords."
How did you get involved in travel?
"Travelling has more or less always been there for me, with a focus on both culture and nature. When I was asked to guide walking tours around my hometown, it just seemed like a reasonable thing to say yes - and likewise from there to helping people travel around the whole country."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"It is possible to travel Iceland's ring road in less than 24 hours. I don't particularly recommend it."
