Irene Lappa

Growing up as an only child, my main concern was to socialize, find the best way to communicate with other kids and thus never feel the lack of sibling(s). Luckily, my parents loved traveling and they chose road trips to introduce the world to me. Most of my childhood memories are related to meeting new friends in the most unexpected locations, playing around in every opportunity, visiting archaeological sites and museums, hiking on untrodden trails and swimming in beaches of stunning beauty.

Needless to say, the way life started for me, led me to have a great appreciation of the knowledge of different cultures and mentalities and to realize early the value of the experiences gathered on each travel.

Now, after many more travels, I consider myself a very lucky person to have the chance sharing these experiences with new friends by designing their travels.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Crete, Peloponnese, and the wine routes of Greece and Italy; elegant, cultural travels and road trips with a touch of wine and food as I think they are the basis of a place's culture."

How did you get involved in travel?

"I have always been involved in travel, one way or another, but to be more specific, I believe it all begun when I dared to leave behind my career as an assistant director in the Greek film industry and to allow myself a re-approach.

At that point, I started from scratch. I needed to reply to myself, some critical questions with sincerity. What do I want to do? What will make me happy doing it every day? What do I know and love? Well, I answered the following: "I love traveling and I love wine. I know some things about traveling and I can certainly enjoy tasting wine." So, that was it. Next step was easy. I started my studies in both tourism and wine and while studying, I was hired from a travel agency to organize trips for independent travelers. What a revelation! I adored it!

Some years after that beginning, continuing to study wine -it's a never ending process- I feel at home. I am happy to work with the Travel 12 group, where we share the same passion for traveling and we love offering unique and lifechanging experiences."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"It was on 2010 when I decided to travel on my own for the first time. After a demanding 120-day film project, where I worked hard at a crazy pace, I realized that I wanted quality time with myself to pamper me and offer me the space to listen to my needs and wants.

With that in mind, I took the ferry and drove myself to one of my favorite places in Greece, the island of Crete. The concept was, a road trip in a large island with long driving distances, without company. The act was, a two-month road trip where some wonderful things happened! I met interesting people, I discovered unique, off-the-beaten-path locations (even though I'd been in Crete many-many times) and most important, I realized two things: 1st I didn’t want to work in films any more, and 2nd I didn’t feel lonely at any time on a trip that I was traveling alone!

One year after that travel experience, I found myself in a new orbital of studies, everyday life and to conclude, in a happy place. "

My trip to Italy was truly a dream come true!...

At first I was very overwhelmed and had no idea where to start, I was also apprehensive about using KimKim as I had no previous experience with them. I have to say, that moving forward with them was the best decision I made.

Irene was exceptional. She was extremely professional and knowledgable. Even with all my questions, fitting in my cousins wedding and a late itinerary change, she accommodated them with ease. She worked with my budget and her suggestion for tours were perfect. Everything from our hotel transfers and hotels were top-notch.

We visited Venice, Florence and Rome. We took her up on her suggestion of taking a day trip to Sienna and we are happy we did. As I mentioned, the tours she booked for us were perfect, and so happy that she did them for us. As you can imagine there are many tour operators, but from what I could see, the ones we went on were all very organized and the guides were so knowledgable and passionate about their cities. I have to recommend LivTours in Rome because the groups were small and you could tell our guides had much experience with the information they shared and how they navigated us through the crowds. We did the Vatican museums and Sistine Chapel one day with Veronica and the Colosseum and Forum Grounds with Lorenzo the following day. I am so happy we did them, we learned so much and got such amazing photos.

But our favourite would have to be the Food and Wine tour with Guilla from Devour tours in Trastevere. It was great to see how the locals eat and what to look for when choosing wines and restaurants during your visit to the many restaurants and cafes in Rome.

We did a lot in 10 days and I don't believe that we would have been able to plan it as smoothly or would have been as enjoyable if Irene did not plan this for us. It was truly customized to us and that is a service that is so hard to come by nowadays.

I couldn't recommend this company enough! I am already saving for our next trip hopefully to Greece and I will definitely have Irene plan for us.

Such a lovely hotel very close to the bus and ferry terminal but not loud at all. It is a bit farther from St Mark's Square which is a much busier area but Venice is a pretty small place. The room was perfect for and the bathroom was updated and clean. We were welcomed with a bottle of Prosecco which is always a lovely touch. The staff was great and the buffet breakfast was really well done! Would definitely stay here again.

Room was really modern and had everything you needed. Pretty spacious considering you are in the middle of Florence. The only issue was that the A/C was not working yet because the building had not turned it on but when we left the windows opened there were so many mosquitoes. The hotel did have these Mosquito Repellant devices and those helped significantly. The location is amazing because it is close to everything.

This hotel is in a beautiful area filled with amazing restaurants and night life. But when you walk into the hotel, it is like you walk into a secret garden. They have updated the property but preserved many things to keep it's unique history and character. The staff was super pleasant. The advanced security/lock system was convenient but took me a day to understand because we arrived late at night when there was no staff present. But not a big deal.

So cute and LOVE the little courtyard with the lemon tree.

Love the location...can walk to so many little shoppes, restaurants and cafes. There is even a little park and playground up the street.

Thier on the trip support was at the same high, I would say unexpectedly high, level as their help planning the trip. Aside from the amazing locations and activities they meticulously found for us based on our preferences, one of our favorite parts of using this travel agency was never having to find a way to get to our destinations. No matter where we were, there was always a vehicle waiting to take us where we needed to go. We saw many another traveler spending lots of time trying to coordinate travel arrangements and we were so incredibly thankful we didn't have to worry about that at all. If you are going to Greece, I couldn't recommend more highly that you choose to work with Travel 12.

Irene planned my first trip to Greece. It's been my dream since I was a kid to visit Greece but when I finally was ready to make it happen the thought of planning this dream trip was too overwhelming to take on alone. That's where Irene came in. I gave her my expectations and my budget and she made my dream come true.

The tours were amazing. I had a mixture of self guided, small group, and private. There was a small hiccup with the meeting time on the first day but it was quickly resolved and we were able to arrive a little late with no problems. I was also impressed at the diversity of the companies we toured with. One in particular stood out to me because she started the company herself and I love that they are willing to use small companies like hers, not just big ones. Everyone was amazing and brought something different to each tour I was on.

The hotels were a wonderful surprise. I didn't give much guidance as far as what hotels/rooms I was looking for. I honestly wasn't looking for anything specific, just comfortable. But Irene more than exceeded my expectations. The hotels were conveniently located, comfortable, the staff were so helpful. The only complaint was the hotel in Avra Rafina Hotel. But that was partly my fault because I ended up booking an early morning flight and Irene had to put me somewhere close to the airport. The staff at Avra Rafina were very rude but having the free shuttle to the airport at 3am made staying there necessary and, again, this was at no fault of Irene's. She did everything right. Honorable mention to the Diapori Suites. AMAZING HOTEL! Seriously, so beautiful and super easy to walk to anything we might have needed in town.

Overall, this was truly the trip of a lifetime and the majority of my positive experience is entirely because of Irene and her amazing planning. I would not have thought to visit the Peloponnese, or the castles and that would have been heartbreaking because the area was truly beautiful getting to drive around those mountains. Thank you for introducing me to the majestic country that is Greece and I can't wait to return for more.

We were picked up at our hotel for the drive to Delphi. The drive (I'm so sorry, I forgot our driver's name) was very comfortable both going there and coming back. The driver was friendly and helpful. We were happy to have him get us where we needed to go that day. Georgia was our guide at Delphi and she did an amazing job showing up the museum and explaining many things that I didn't know about the place. Afterwards we walked through the archeological site and the views were amazing. Having a guide was beneficial though. I don't feel like I would have gotten as much out of the visit. After walking a little more by ourselves we met the driver to go to Mer Des Oliviers for lunch. Every one was so kind and welcoming. The food was delicious and it had a great cozy feeling to it. Especially getting to sit outside in the lovely weather. Overall great experience for the whole day.

Dimitris was our tour guide for Mystras Castle. I remember driving up to the town and seeing some ruins way high up on the mountain and thinking "I really hope it isn't that all the way up there." But it was lol. I was quickly relieved though when Dimitris told us that we would be going downhill, not uphill. We took our car to the top to park and made our way down, stopping at the sites a long the way. Alongside the history, which was fascinating, he also had a vast knowledge of the plants in the area and I loved hearing about all the different ones as we walked by them. It was a wonderful experience and I hope to go back when they finish renovating.

In addition, all of the details like trains and transfers were booked for us. We received all the details about times, where to meet people and detailed itineraries prior to leaving for our trip and everything worked extremely well. When there were hiccups (only a couple over 3 weeks), the Kimkim team was right there to help. We were very well taken care of every step of the way.

One of the many highlights was arriving at in Venice to a private tour by water taxi to orient us. We arrived at our hotel, Corte di Gabriela, to a bottle of prosecco chilling in our room. The room was very comfortable, the staff was attentive and helpful, and the breakfasts were amazing. We had a wonderful walking tour of the city. Our guide from Liv Tours was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed learning about Venice's history and culture.

We chose to spend time in the Cinque Terre, which was very busy. Thankfully, Irene had recommended we stay in Levanto, a six-minute train ride from Monterroso. Levanto was much less crowded, but still full of history, beauty and things to do.

We loved Siena. The hotel, Residenza d'Epoca Palazzo Borghesi, was charming. We took two tours from there with Tuscan Escapes. Both were fantastic! We had an evening sunset tour of Tuscany, finishing with dinner at a winery. Danielo was an excellent guide, explaining the region and the wines. He was also a pleasure to talk with over dinner, as were the other guests. The next day we visited three Brunello di Montalcino wineries with Giorgia. We had lunch at one of the wineries, with all of the food made by the Mama--it was fantastic!

From there we went to Sorrento, which is lovely and a great jumping off point to visit Capri and the Amalfi coast. We hikes the Path of the Gods with Vincenzo. He was entertaining and very knowledgeable about the flora we encountered along the way. It was a joy to experience the passion he has for his work and to spend time with him.

We finished our trip with two days at the beach. It was the perfect end to a fabulous trip. We couldn't have done it all without Irene's help! We look forward to next time.

This trip is something that I will never forget especially with meeting my Dad’s family. It was so beautiful. Each place we stayed at was outstanding. The tour guides were amazing, explaining everything so beautifully. I thank my cousins Jeanne & Danny & his family for inviting me. I am truly blessed. I can’t stop telling everyone about my trip & showing all the pictures. It takes my breath away how so beautiful everything is. Thank you Irene for a beautiful trip. 🇮🇹🇮🇹🥰🙏🏻

Hotel Review
Agriturismo Mormoraia
San Gimignano

One of the most beautiful hotels (if you can call it a hotel) more like a villa that I have ever stayed in.
