How did you get involved in travel?

"I was born and raised in a tourist area of the Dominican Republic, right near a beautiful waterfall that drew visitors from all over. Growing up in such a vibrant environment, surrounded by natural beauty and diverse cultures, sparked my love for travel at an early age. I’ve always loved talking to and connecting with others, learning their stories, and sharing the best my country has to offer. This passion naturally led me to a career in tourism, where I’ve spent over 22 years helping others create unforgettable travel experiences.

"One travel experience I’ll never forget was my first visit to Bahía del Rincón. I had seen pictures before, but nothing could have prepared me for the breathtaking beauty of the place. It was like stepping into a different time, where everything stood still. The serene waters, the untouched nature, and the peaceful atmosphere captured me completely—I didn’t want to leave. It was one of those rare moments where reality surpassed even the most stunning photographs."

A friend and I decided to take a last minute trip to Puerto Rico, and reached out to KimKim to help with the logistics, since neither of us had much time to manage it on our own. A friend and I decided to take a last minute trip to Puerto Rico, and reached out to KimKim to help with the logistics, since neither of us had much time to manage it on our own. We had used KimKim previously and had a fantastic experience, so were eager to take advantage of their services again. Isabel was very pleasant, and clearly tried to be helpful. Our trip, however, didn't go as smoothly as we had hoped it would. We were given incorrect and contradictory information on several occasions, and had to do some major scrambling when we discovered that ferry tickets to Vieques (a key part of our trip) had not been booked. The places that Isabel recommended were lovely, but it seemed like we spent a lot of time trying to figure out when and where we were supposed to be.

Our major issue was with the digital layout of the itinerary. We both found it very difficult to navigate. For example, the addresses for hotels were not listed--you had to go to an embedded link to a digital map, which required that you have a GPS system. To be fair, this might have been because we chose not to use the KimKim app. I ALWAYS bring paper copies of any necessary info, as I have been to enough places that do not have reliable cell service. But I could find no easy way to download the digital itinerary (I might have missed it). So I was shuffling miscellaneous pieces of paper all week.

My takeaway is that we probably should not tried to book something as last minute as we did. I think Isabel did her best to create a cohesive itinerary for us, but we didn't take the important step of reviewing and fact-checking it to catch any potential disconnects until after we were already on our trip. A big lesson learned for us!

Poorly planned, and very last minute.

Poorly planned, and very last minute. We would get notified of schedule changes and cancellations the night before and we needed to be in constant communication. She was not a local, and she had no ability to troubleshoot or preemptively fix any issues that arose. I feel completely ripped off by paying way too much for nothing.

My five days in the Dominican Republic were absolutely amazing, thanks to Isabel and Francis.

Isabel was incredibly patient and kind from the very beginning of the planning process. I changed my destination from Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic, experienced a family emergency, and even switched from traveling with my significant other to traveling with a friend—and none of this ever seemed to bother her. She consistently checked in, showed genuine care by asking if everything was okay, and remained easygoing and supportive throughout.

Isabel truly listened to my interests, planned amazing activities, kept me busy in the best way, and was always responsive. A few days before my trip, she introduced me to Francis, who was just as kind, informative, and attentive. Francis contacted me daily to check in and to provide details about the next day’s activities. While I had a general outline, his communication added clarity and made everything feel seamless and stress-free.

I couldn’t have asked for better people to help plan my trip to the Dominican Republic. Because of them, I truly fell in love with the experience.

Our guide was polite and pleasant, and he did take us to all of the scheduled locations. However, we felt that the tour itself lacked information and engagement. Much of the walk was done in silence, and when we asked questions, the responses were often very brief or one-word answers. For example, when we asked about the population in Chinatown and about religion in the Dominican Republic, we were hoping for a bit more context or explanation. There were also a few moments that felt awkward for us, such as when the guide stopped to buy himself ice cream at the beginning of the tour and later sat down to eat soup in Chinatown while we waited. Additionally, there were times when he was on his phone, texting, or stopping to greet people he knew, which made the experience feel less focused

I would have loved to get a summary of places to be, with addresses, and the exact times to be there and how long the event would take. However, I understand that in large part because our trip was so last-minute, it was hard to accommodate.
I really appreciated the extra restaurant suggestions, and being available and responding to messages during off-hours and on holiday days!
