Jessica Adriaansen

I'm Belgian, grew up in Africa, and also lived in several countries such as Portugal, England, Mauritius island and now Bali in Indonesia. As my biggest passion is traveling, it made sense to become a travel specialist so I can share my passion and help you organize the perfect holiday.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I love snorkeling, diving and also trekking. I also appreciate calm days including spa treatments or relaxing at the beach. Indonesia is my specialty! "

How did you get involved in travel?

"My love for travel started when I was very young as my father is a pilot and used to take me with him very often. I love discovering the varieties of cultures and ways of living. "

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"I had a lot of unforgettable experiences in Indonesia but my favorite is definitely the day I got off the tracks in Ubud's surroundings and got lost in the rice fields. After some times I found a little Warung (local restaurant) and discovered the delicious Balinese specialties with locals. They shared their amazing culture with me and helped me find my way back. "

Komodo and padar tour, Indonesia - Oct 25 - Oct 27, 2018

Our trip was amazing! From start to finish we were taken care of. Sharif and his crew were very friendly and their hospitality was great. Sharif was very knowledgable about the area, spotting Mantas, Dolphins and baby sharks! We had some enforced changes to our itinerary, as we were unable to see Padar island which was a disappointment, but we always had interesting places to go, snorkel and view the wildlife. The crew cooked us a banquet for every meal, so we never went hungry! The... read more

The crew cooked us a banquet for every meal, so we never went hungry! The facilities were basic, but we had everything we needed.

The highlights of the trip were definitely the animals we saw. The Komodo dragons on Komodo island, swimming with Manta Rays at manta point and watching the flying foxes exodus in their millions against the backdrop of the sun setting were really special.

The 3 days on the boat were an amazing experience and we would both highly recommend it to anyone.

Jessica (local specialist) was very helpful planning our trip and handling some last minute changes to our travel. However, we felt it took a little too much communication to finalize the details for our trip. For example, sometimes we have to repeat what we did and didn’t want to do. However, we felt it took a little too much communication to finalize the details for our trip. For example, sometimes we have to repeat what we did and didn’t want to do. There were also a few parts of the trip that were less memorable that others. I feel like we could have spent several hours less (which sometimes felt like the whole day) driving if Jessica had planned the trip differently. That being said, I would not have gone on this trip without Jessica’s help. She was an invaluable part of the experience.

Tersek Ginting (our guide) was awesome. He’s was always in a good mood, extremely friendly, always had our safety in mind, and very receptive to our opinions. His English could use a little work, but I always felt I could effectively communicate with him. Tersek did an awesome job our guide. I can’t thank him enough.

Darso (our driver) was a great driver. He’s very quiet, because he doesn’t speak English, but he was very professional driving us around. We always felt safe and that he was in control of the van. He always opened the door for us and handled our bags.

I contacted kimkim about travel in Indonesia and ultimately received a response from Joost, who introduced me to kimkim's specialist, Jessica, based in Bali. As I went down the path of planning a trip with Jessica, it became clear that Jessica actually worked for a conventional tourist agency, Shanti travel. I ended up with one of Shanti travel's standard travel packages for two weeks which cost $9000 for me and my family and had its share of ups and downs. In particular the boat trip to... read more

In particular the boat trip to Komodo which was scheduled for us at Komodo was a total disaster. We arrived at the dock to a deteriorating boat, cramped, with rotting wood and not even the basic amenities. For instance, in the outhouse style bathroom, there was no sink to wash your hands. Needles to say, we could not use our soap provided at said non-existent sink. Fortunately, my wife brought hand sanitizer and that sufficed for washing up after using the restroom for the next two days. Additionally, the electrical system was a shambles consisting of a network of extension cords and power strips throughout the boat which we had to ask our crew to plug and unplug if we wanted to turn on and off lights at night. More than a little inconvenient and a lot dangerous. It was basically a dilapidated fishing boat with some clapboard cabins installed, not a boat I would choose to travel on, EVER. This was highlighted when came into a dock or anchored next to other boats in the islands, all of which were really nicely fitted out, with little chipping paint or rotting wood and an overall cheery environment on board. I don't know who made a lot of money by charging us a premium for a Komodo boat tour and then offering crappy service and this depressing , uncomfortable boat, but I am guessing it was the tour operator Komodo Mega Tours (who I do not recommend at all), I battled with their representative, through our guide, in order to get a new boat sent out, which he did after two days when the weekend was over and presumably, he had more boats. So we experienced what it was like to be on a normal boat for one night and it was fabulous. The fact that I spent so much time and energy to get reasonable accommodation still angers me off since I was looking forward to having a relaxing time on the boat and this certainly was not. It was a stressful situation which I probably could have avoided by booking my own travel.

On the bright side, there were nice times during the trip such as some beautiful hotels which we never would have found on our own. Overall , though, we were on a package tour which is what I was hoping to avoid when booking though kimkim. Not a huge deal but the lack of transparency in kimkim is regrettable. Joost could have said that kimkim does not have their own representative in Indonesia before pawning us off on another company. He chose not to and instead represented Jessica as part of kimkim from the beginning. I guess everyone wants to make a little money being a shill for tourists, even kimkim.

Was an excellent trip, the guides on the ground were great, the communication in advance was very good. There were a few issues but aren't there always.

We have Yudi for a day I Yogyakarta , then Ovan for the rest of Java with Obbie driving and lastly Merta in Bali. Jessica was the initial contact and office based organizer.

The local guides had a deeper understanding of the best order to do things, when something should be busy or quieter - so whilst the things in a day were the same,... read more

The local guides had a deeper understanding of the best order to do things, when something should be busy or quieter - so whilst the things in a day were the same, the sequence in the day was shuffled by the local guides.

Highlights were the Ijen trek, the Kalibaru plantations and Jatiluwih rice terraces

Thank you Kimkim and Shanti for creating the best honeymoon experience for us! It was an unforgettable experience and we have fallen in love with Bali and all its culture. Wayan was an excellent driver and we will always be grateful for him. He took us to many of his favorite local warungs and even ordered our food for us and made sure we were ok (when there was a language barrier with the staff). Our trip would not be the same without him!

Our trip would not be the same without him!

Matthieu was also wonderful. During our meeting, he made sure we were comfortable with our program and reassured us that he would be there at any time if we had any issues down the road. I am highly allergic to mold, and our initial room at Abian Ayu was covered in it. My husband and I are very low maintenance when it comes to room arrangements, but there was no way I would've been able to be comfortable in that room. Alvin contacted Matthieu, and within a matter of minutes, the hotel staff apologized and made other arrangements for us.

The service at The Alena was absolutely incredible. We felt so welcome everywhere we went, and the staff even remembered our names.

Places we visited that stood out the most: our entire stay at Gili, Uluwatu Temple (used on our free day), and Tirta Gangga.

All in all a fantastic, memorable experience. Thank you for everything!
