Jyra Lagonsin
Hi my name is Jyra. I have been living in Japan since 2022 and I am currently based in Kyoto to have an in-depth experience of Japan's wonderful sights and culture. I like to help create memorable and off-the-beaten-path experiences by showcasing the beautiful regional destinations of Japan!
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"As an avid hiker and enthusiast of historical and cultural sites, I specialize in designing tours that offer a perfect blend of leisure and immersive learning. I believe that travelling should be relaxing while also gaining a deeper understanding of each destination’s story and traditions. One of my personal passions is onsen (hot springs), and I have extensive knowledge and numerous tips to help you fully appreciate and enjoy this Japanese experience. I enjoy helping travelers experience Japan in the most authentic and enjoyable way possible."
How did you get involved in travel?
"I grew up surrounded by the world of travel since my parents started a travel agency when I was young, which inspired me to pursue a degree in Travel Management. After graduating, I joined one of the leading travel agencies in the Philippines, where I spent four years improving my skills in creating customized leisure tour packages for international destinations, particularly Japan and Korea.
My love for Japan eventually led me to move to Kyoto, where I joined Oku Japan. Living here has been an incredible experience. I’ve had the chance to explore over 16 prefectures and continue to be amazed by the country’s rich culture and natural beauty.
Travel has always been a part of who I am, both personally and professionally, and I’m excited to share my passion and experiences with you."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"One of my most memorable travels was in the summer of 2023, when I visited Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture. During my stay, it felt as if the entire island belonged to us, it was peaceful, serene, and untouched. I’ll never forget the breathtaking sunset, where shades of deep orange, pink, and purple painted the sky like a scene straight out of an anime. Another highlight was riding the taraibune, a traditional tub-shaped boat, while gazing at the crystal-clear waters below, and the joy of looking at the coastline from the bus window lined up with golden sunflowers. That summer remains one of my most cherished travel memories in Japan, those small peaceful moments made me appreciate life better and realized how travel can heal your soul. "
