Kana Van Sandt

I am a Japan Specialist at InsideJapan Tours. I grew up in a small town in Shizuoka, Japan before moving to the U.S. Traveling is my passion and Japan is definitely one of my most favorite places to explore. Every trip is special and there is always something new to discover.

I am happy to share my knowledge and experience with everyone from all over the world. I take every single trip very seriously and try my best to customize based on travel style and interest of each person.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I am very familiar with Honshu (mainland) of Japan. My absolute favorite would be Kanazawa, Takayama, and Kyoto."

How did you get involved in travel?

"My parents took me to a lot of places in Japan as I grew up. They also expanded the destination outside of Japan as I grew older and every trip was very inspiring to me. I have traveled many countries and will continue to explore the world!"

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"My husband and I wanted to hike Mt. Takao in Japan one day, and decided to take the train from Iriya Station where we both lived. My husband is usually pretty good at directions, but somehow we took the wrong train and ended up in Mount Mitake.

We were dressed for a hike, but the mountain was higher than Mt. Takao and higher than we were prepared to go, but there wasn't as much traffic and the mist made it so beautiful so we stayed. We enjoyed absolutely delicious soba, later finding out that it was one of the most popular restaurants there.

The experience taught us that the wrong trains can sometimes take us to the better/ best destinations. It was such a magical and interesting experience and we still talk about it all the time."

Couple exploring japan for the first time!, Japan - May 9 - May 30, 2018

Fabulous accommodation selections and great planning of all transport requirements. We did self guided option which we loved as we had all the info we needed to navigate Japan but still felt like we were adventuring ourselves. The opposite of a “group tour” which is what we were trying to avoid.

Highly recommend inside Japan!!
