Ngima has been running his trekking company out of Kathmandu since the mid-90s. He specializes in treks and adventure travel in Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan. His work in the travel industry has enabled him to visit many countries across the world, including the United States, England, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, Austria, and The Netherlands.
In addition to being a successful travel entrepreneur, Ngima has initiated and implemented several charitable projects in his village, including founding 2 schools, a Tibetan monastery, and a hospital. Ngima was born in Kharikola, a village on the classic trail to Everest, and now lives with his wife and 2 sons in Kathmandu, Nepal.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"I’ve arranged numerous trips throughout Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet, but I’m most familiar with the Solu Khumbu where I grew up, obviously. I know the trails, peaks and villages around there very well. Most trekkers opt to fly into the Everest region and miss out on the secret gems that lie on the trail between Jiri and Lukla.
I specialize mainly in trekking and mountaineering, but also organize a number of charity and community projects in the Solu Khumbu that specialize in bringing medical supplies to local villages. We have also been working on a project to connect foreign students with local schools in the area. And since the earthquake in 2015, we’ve been helping repair the homes of villagers around the village I grew up in, Kharikhola. I’m excited about helping people have local, authentic experiences."
How did you get involved in travel?
"When I was ten years old, Sir Edmund Hillary came to the Solu Khumbu, near where I was born, to help fund a school. Inspired by his visit, I enrolled as a porter in Lukla, and eventually moved to Kathmandu to join my uncle’s trekking business. In 1991, I spent three months in the U.K. which improved my English and motivated me to enrol in a guiding course and start guiding for a Dutch company operating out of Summit hotel in Kathmandu. Finally, I started my own agency - Nepal Myths and Mountains Trails - in 1996 and have been running that ever since."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"When I was a porter, at that time, we didn’t have any shoes while carrying our heavy loads. Everyone around us was wearing comfortable shoes and socks, of course. At the end of one of our treks up to Everest Base Camp, a couple French members in our group left us each with a great pair of hiking boots that lasted for years to come. A small act of kindness, sure, but it made all the difference to my feet for the next 3 years! "

In May 2015, Nepal was struck by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake. Many travelers are still wondering if it's safe to visit Nepal. The short answer is "yes". The earthquake has caused severe damage in certain regions, but the country is rebuilding and open for travel.
Although small in land area, Nepal is an extremely diverse country in terms of culture and landscape. In seven days you can scratch the surface, see many beautiful sights and have a lot of fun. Ancient culture in Kathmandu, trekking trails through the forests and hills, white-water rafting on the Trisuli River, wildlife spotting in Chitwan National Park, beautiful lake and mountain views in Pokhara — you may not be able to do it all in a week, but you can have a go!
For adventure lovers (and adventurous married couples!) there's hardly a more appealing destination than Nepal. Add the romance of stunning mountain vistas, luxury accommodation, and atmospheric cultural sites to classic adventure activities like trekking and paragliding and you have the ideal honeymoon destination.
While Nepal is known as a country of hills and mountains, many visitors are pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the Terai, the lowlands bordering India. The Chitwan National Park is a jewel on the Terai. It has run a very successful one-horned rhinoceros breeding program, and visitors on safari are almost guaranteed to spot one of the spectacular animals, as well as other wildlife. This tour gives you time to fully explore the highlights of Chitwan, while staying in some luxurious--as well as unique--accommodation.
Two weeks in Nepal is enough time for a truly satisfying adventure. Trek in remote mountain areas; paddle and camp along one of Nepal's beautiful rivers; visit ancient cultural sites; spot wildlife in the jungle national parks. These are just some of the options available with two weeks in the geographically and culturally diverse country.

Group departure - three passes trek - the ultimate 19-day trek in the everest region of nepal, Nepal - Apr 7 - Apr 23, 2018
Nepal is a great place but can be chaotic even by South African standards. Every trip to Nepal and Himalaya should be done with a guide from a reputable company.
From the start to the end of our trip we were in the fast lane. When people were queuing, either Ngima or our guide Mingmar got us to the front with no hassle.
There are premium accommodation options along the EBC and Three passes trek, however, most are very basic but adequate. Western toilets become a rarity the closer one gets... read more

Booking our trip on kimkim was extremely simple and convenient. We were connected to Ngima right away, and he was professional and attentive all the way through. Everything that we experienced prior to the trip was easy, smooth, and enjoyable.
The trip itself was rather disappointing because our guide failed time and time again to do his job properly. He seemed entirely unfamiliar with the region of Nepal that we trekked through and depended on our porter to do a number of things that he... read more

This was my second trip to Nepal. Booked with Nepal Myths and Trails Trekking/climbing Company. So Glad I did. Nigma Dorje is an absolutely amazing owner and operator of his guiding company.
By far the best communication out of the guding companies I’ve used in Nepal. He asnwers all questions and concers promptly and to your full satisfaction! We were very impressed with how promptly, patiently, and thoroughly Ngima Dorji Sherpa answered all our numerous emailed questions. His attention made us feel at ease that he was personally making sure all our requirements were being attended to. We were personally greeted when we arrived in Kathmandu and fully briefed on the details of our meeting with our guide and porter at Lukla.

First of all kimkim was very easy to use, it was fast, accurate and we would definitely use them again.
Within hours of our initial inquiry, 4/6 weeks before the trip itself, we received a message from Ngima of Nepal Myths and Mountain Trails (NMMT), a Kathmandu based trekking company and from that moment we had direct contact with our tour operator right up until the day we traveled. Ngima listened to our requests and was able to create a bespoke itinerary matching our exact needs. He... read more

Overall, very happy with Ang Gelu and Kunga. Both of them compliment each other, and they understood our trekking style.
Ang Gelu - Extremely patient person. Seriously, I can't tell you how many times I stopped during the first few days. He never left my side. Always trekking behind me at my pace. Sometimes slow and sometimes really fast. His stamina is spot on. It's evident he loves the mountains, the way he talks about them, later part of the trek. He made sure we got proper meals during... read more

Wow, what a fantastic trip. Thank you to everyone on the Kim Kim team. The trip was wonderful from beginning to end. Ngima Dorji Sherpa did not disappoint. He was there to make sure all the connections were flawlessly made. Our guide Lhakpa Chhetar Sherpa was fantastic. I described him as the mother you love dearly, taking care and looking after me every steep of the way. Our porter Nawn Pasang Sherpa was a true honor to have on the trek. Returned about a week ago, from a wonderful experience in Nepal that will be in my heart forever. After discussing my winter trekking options with Ngima Dorji Sherpa, the owner of Nepal Myths and Mountain Trails, I decided on the Khopra Danda Trek. Every day was amazing! I was greeted at Kathmandu Airport by Tashi, Ngima's son and began my trek the following morning.

The trek was amazing. The views were spectacular and those in my group were really friendly. Ngima was an excellent guide, open to suggestions while also keeping us on a good schedule. The teahouses/lodges we stayed at were better than expected. The Poon Hill sunrise hike and our stay in the village of Ghandruk were the most memorable parts but, all in all, we made a good amount of memories and friends throughout the trek!

When Dimple and I first made our booking we had so many reservations about taking our two boys (9yrs and 5yrs) on a trekking adventure in Nepal. Both have grown up in Singapore and never been on any long walks nor seen that much of the developing world. However, the tour as such left much to be desired.
On the positive side, the team arrived at the hotel before the agreed time.
But then the announced guide was replaced by someone whose name I do not know until today.

Excellent in all regards. Sherpa Pemba and our Porter were terrific. Good guys, set a good pace for trekking. And are extremely knowledgeable. I can't imagine having better weather. We clearly picked right time of year for this experience. The lodges we stayed were perfect for the experience as well. We had an amazing trekking in the Everest region.
Our guide was a real care taking person, so he was not only guiding us the way, but made the whole trip a really good experience. When one of us was not feeling well he helped to make the trip as best as possible (changing the itinerary a bit). It felt like an all inclusive trip :).

Upper mustang trek, Nepal - Sep 4 - Sep 17, 2017
One of the best trips I've had arranged with an agent and I've done +20 agent coordinated trips. Impressed with Kimkim from top to bottom.
It was an excellent trip by Ngima and his team. We had one day that was less than perfect due to our guide (Tshering) under estimating our hiking time (5 hours vs 12 hours) which led to a challenging and over strenuous day. Other than that the entire trip was excellent, including the two porters (Lale - excellent; Bikram - good).

We would like to say thanks to Ngima and his team for arranging this amazing trip. Ang and Lakpar (guide and porter) were amazing guides and tended to our every need. Our trip to the mountains of Nepal was great. It was well organized by Ngima, who was very responsive to the demands of the schedules of members of our group who were all coming and going from different parts of the world. I was very impressed with the working of the website, it seemed very efficient and beautifully designed. In fact it was the design that first persuaded me to look further.
I would say it was really great. Ngima was extremely professional and gave me the impression that he was understanding all my demands. The trip was organised very well and I felt in capable hands the whole way. This was especially important as I had some medical issues that needed understanding in terms of trekking.

A challenging trek to annapurna base camp, Nepal - Feb 18 - Feb 25, 2017
We asked for a challenging trek- more or less two days in one- in the season at the end of the winter.
Our years long experience with Ngima Dorji Sherpa through Nepal Myths and Mountain Treks, and our guide, Karma Sherpa with whom I also are climbing many years, proved once more key to a successful and memorable week.

Really outstanding local agent, guide and porter and wonderful experience overall. The only thing that could have been better is for the route to start in Soti Kola and end in Dharapani because the itinerary as is included 2.5 days of walking on roads with jeeps whizzing by. By cutting these 2.5 days on the roads you could add a couple days exploring up high and keep to the same overall 16 day length. I guess for those that have a tighter schedule. 2. When you do stay overnight in Hile just as we did, in hindsight we would have had no problem to walk the next day to Biretanthi.
