Ngima has been running his trekking company out of Kathmandu since the mid 90s. He specializes in treks and adventure travel in Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan. His work in the travel industry has enabled him to visit many countries across the world, including the United States, England, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, Austria, and The Netherlands. In addition to being a successful travel entrepreneur, Ngima has initiated and implemented several charitable projects in his village, including founding 2 schools, a tibetan monastery and a hospital. Ngima was born in Kharikola, a village on the classic trail to Everest, and now lives with his wife and 2 sons in Kathmandu, Nepal.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"I’ve arranged numerous trips throughout Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet, but I’m most familiar with the Solu Khumbu where I grew up, obviously. I know the trails, peaks and villages around there very well. Most trekkers opt to fly into the Everest region and miss out on the secret gems that lie on the trail between Jiri and Lukla.
I specialize mainly in trekking and mountaineering, but also organize a number of charity and community projects in the Solu Khumbu that specialize in bringing medical supplies to local villages. We have also been working on a project to connect foreign students with local schools in the area. And since the earthquake in 2015, we’ve been helping repair the homes of villagers around the village I grew up in, Kharikhola. I’m excited about helping people have local, authentic experiences."
How did you get involved in travel?
"When I was ten years old, Sir Edmund Hillary came to the Solu Khumbu, near where I was born, to help fund a school. Inspired by his visit, I enrolled as a porter in Lukla, and eventually moved to Kathmandu to join my uncle’s trekking business. In 1991, I spent three months in the U.K. which improved my English and motivated me to enrol in a guiding course and start guiding for a Dutch company operating out of Summit hotel in Kathmandu. Finally, I started my own agency - Nepal Myths and Mountains Trails - in 1996 and have been running that ever since."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"When I was a porter, at that time, we didn’t have any shoes while carrying our heavy loads. Everyone around us was wearing comfortable shoes and socks, of course. At the end of one of our treks up to Everest Base Camp, a couple French members in our group left us each with a great pair of hiking boots that lasted for years to come. A small act of kindness, sure, but it made all the difference to my feet for the next 3 years! "

Ghorepani poonhill trek, Nepal - Nov 19 - Nov 26, 2016
We have been home for about one and a half weeks now. We are really happy with how our trip went. The views were stunning and I think that both me and Victor would like to return someday for a longer trek. Thank you for all the help. It would have been some much harder to do without you two.
Ngima and our guide Lhakpa were great and everything just worked.
Three passes trek nepal, Nepal - Nov 1 - Nov 17, 2016
I was grateful to have found a resource like Kimkim to go to. I was overwhelmed trying to find a reliable tour company in Nepal and having your recommendation took all the guess work out and that was really awesome.
Ngima was extremely responsive right from the start and was actively monitoring how our trip was going throughout. We got an excellent pre trip catch up and post trip meeting.
Khopra ridge trek, Nepal - Oct 27 - Nov 8, 2016
This was my first trip to Nepal, and my first trekking experience. Ngima and his staff took care of all the details. We were greeted on arrival in Nepal, which made us feel welcome and warm. In our initial meeting, we were introduced to Lhakpa, our guide for our 7 day trek. Lhakpa was a great guide. He was very patient and flexible. He was able to tailor our trek as we went according to our needs and abilities. After our trek, we decided we wanted to add an Everest mountain flight to... read more
Pikey peak, Nepal - Oct 29 - Nov 3, 2016
I have just returned from a 6 days Pikey Peak tour with Nepal Myth and Mountain Trails. HIGHLY recommended tour company! Very organized and professional company. The owner of the company, Ngima is very passionate and concerned about making the guest's experience a memorable one. My guide, Pembac did a great job giving me a lot of interesting information about mountain trails and culture of Nepalese people. These guys absolutely exceeded our expectations in every way. Thank you Nepal Myth and Mountain Trails!
Manaslu circuit trek, Nepal - Oct 14 - Nov 1, 2016
Really outstanding local agent, guide and porter and wonderful experience overall. The only thing that could have been better is for the route to start in Soti Kola and end in Dharapani because the itinerary as is included 2.5 days of walking on roads with jeeps whizzing by. By cutting these 2.5 days on the roads you could add a couple days exploring up high and keep to the same overall 16 day length. I don't blame the Nepalese for wanting more roads but I don't want to trek on them. Make... read more

I guess my two suggestions would be: 1. You don't necessarily have to spend the night in Hile, especially when you have a car arranged to pick you up there. I guess for those that have a tighter schedule. 2. When you do stay overnight in Hile just as we did, in hindsight we would have had no problem to walk the next day to Biretanthi. I mean the car was perfect and we had I think the best driver of the whole of Nepal, yet it feels a bit like we bother the villagers and trekkers that did walk... read more

Ghorepani / poonhill + tibet tour, Nepal - May 3 - May 17, 2016
The team at KimKim perfectly tailored our trip, and were very patient as me made numerous changes during the planning process. They were able to find a perfect mix of cultural and hiking interests that suited the interest of my father and I. It was great to be able to chat with people that were very experienced with the hikes and sites themselves which allowed for us to view the REAL Nepal and Tibet.
Ngima was very helpful during our trip. He was on-time for every touch-point and meeting,... read more
