Early morning in Chitwan National Park

Best of Chitwan - 5 Days

While Nepal is known as a country of hills and mountains, many visitors are pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the Terai, the lowlands bordering India. The Chitwan National Park is a jewel on the Terai. It has run a very successful one-horned rhinoceros breeding program, and visitors on safari are almost guaranteed to spot one of the spectacular animals, as well as other wildlife. This tour gives you time to fully explore the highlights of Chitwan, while staying in some luxurious--as well as unique--accommodation.

2 Weeks in Nepal: 4 Great Itineraries

Two weeks in Nepal is enough time for a truly satisfying adventure. Trek in remote mountain areas; paddle and camp along one of Nepal's beautiful rivers; visit ancient cultural sites; spot wildlife in the jungle national parks. These are just some of the options available with two weeks in the geographically and culturally diverse country.

The trek was everything I had hoped for and more, we were blessed with glorious weather throughout and reaching Base Camp at sunrise was a truly memorable experience. I was travelling with my son (I am 65 and my son 29) and our wonderful guide Pemba was so professional, caring and fun to be with, and very interesting explaining to us about the local life and region. He was also so supportive to me while I struggled with what seemed like endless steps to climb on some days! He coped and understood so well the differences in age and ability between my son and myself and I was so thrilled to make it to Base Camp. Our porter Pasang was also a joy, never seemed to stop smiling despite having to carry our —-hopefully not too heavy —load. I cannot recommend both of them highly enough. My one bit of advice would be—-take more cash than you think you need on the trek—-EVERYTHING is extra, drinks, snacks , loo roll, phone charging, internet when available, showers, drinking water, etc and it really mounts up .
A huge thank you to Ngima and his team, a truly wonderful experience. We were sorry to leave.

Thank you very much for taking some of your precious time to share your adventure experience with us. I am very happy that you had a great time during your stay in Nepal. we too hope to welcome you again very soon and organize another trip to Nepal for you.

Returned about a week ago, from a wonderful experience in Nepal that will be in my heart forever. After discussing my winter trekking options with Ngima Dorji Sherpa, the owner of Nepal Myths and Mountain Trails, I decided on the Khopra Danda Trek. Every day was amazing! I was greeted at Kathmandu Airport by Tashi, Ngima's son and began my trek the following morning.

This was a solo trek for me, and I was accompanied by two outstanding people, my guide Gelu and my porter Lakpa. They made sure every day was perfect! While every day on the trail had beautiful views, the top of Khopra Danda is breathtaking. I cherish my time in Nepal! When it was time to fly back to the States, I was met earlier at my hotel by Ngima and escorted to the airport.
It was an amazing trek from teahouse to teahouse, and a great experience for me. I truly did not want to leave.

Ngima Dorji Sherpa, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hi Cheryl,

We are more than happy that you enjoyed your stay in Nepal to the fullest and reached home safely with lots of wonderful experience in Khopra Danda Trail. We hope you will soon visit Nepal again for next amazing trip and we will be glad to be a part of your trip arrangement once again.

Ghorepani poonhill trek, Nepal - Dec 24 - Dec 29, 2017

Traveler: Gerard D. - Local specialist: Ngima Dorji Sherpa

The trek was amazing. The views were spectacular and those in my group were really friendly. Ngima was an excellent guide, open to suggestions while also keeping us on a good schedule. The teahouses/lodges we stayed at were better than expected. The Poon Hill sunrise hike and our stay in the village of Ghandruk were the most memorable parts but, all in all, we made a good amount of memories and friends throughout the trek!

Ngima Dorji Sherpa, local specialist, responded to this review:

Thank you very much, Dear Gerard, for sharing your trek experience and appreciating our service. We too enjoyed organizing this trip for you and after meeting and walking with you, we are more than happy to add a good friend in our life. We hope you will still have more plans to visit Nepal again and we will be happy to organize your trip. Please remember us and do keep in touch.

Best wishes,

When Dimple and I first made our booking we had so many reservations about taking our two boys (9yrs and 5yrs) on a trekking adventure in Nepal. Both have grown up in Singapore and never been on any long walks nor seen that much of the developing world. With so many questions going through our head, being able to reach out to Ngima and the staff at Kim Kim in preparation for our trip, was just ideal. We were able to ask questions and get answers pretty much around the clock - everyone was so responsive.
The trek itself was everything we wanted it to be. Some of it was incredibly challenging for the children - especially the night climb to see the sunrise at Poonhill - in hindsight, I think we might have done better to have opted out of the night hike to let the boys recover from the previous day's exertions. In any case, Ngima and his team, took everything in their stride - including being so patient with our boys and then ensuring that they were safe throughout. In fact, I don't think I remember a time when the boys didn't have a chaperone during any part of the trek - and when they were ever too tired or not quite up to it, the porters would haul them on to their backs and help them along. The boys struck up a really nice friendship with the team and really enjoyed themselves.
So, all in all, it was a fantastic trip and a fantastic experience. Thank you Kim Kim - all of us can't wait to return for another circuit!

However, the tour as such left much to be desired.
On the positive side, the team arrived at the hotel before the agreed time.
But then the announced guide was replaced by someone whose name I do not know until today.
This person was sporty, young and knew his way. But there was a communication gap.
I would have expected that at the start the guide provide information likes this:
We drive now xyz hours/ Kilometres to the place abc from where we will hike def kilometres/ hours. Lunch will be at hotel klm.
There could have also been information on the villages we passed, on the cultivation of the plots, on nature, on the local way of life, local food etc., etc.,
None of this information was provided. It was somehow half-mentioned that we would walk 4 to 5 km, in the end it were 11 km, which is quite a difference.
When I asked in Nagakort where we would have lunch, the answer was “somewhere here”. I then suggested the Club Himalaya, which is a kind of reference point for Western tourists. On the way there, the guide all of sudden said that it was still 30 min to walk and suggested some other place. But my GPS showed a distance of 231 m straight line, so I insisted on going to this place which we reached after 5 min.
However, the weakest, almost unbelievable, aspect was the following: The tour price was USD 200. But for this price (hotels in Kathmandu offer the same tour for 50… 70 USD….), there was not even a bottle of water in the car or with the guide. So, I had to get out of my way and buy one (20 Rupees or 20 US cents) in one of the village kiosks on the way.
I have been working for many years in areas related to tourism development in developing countries (in fact, prior to Nepal. I had been in Ethiopia to check out two tourism destinations –Tigray and the Danakil Depression). So I can compare a bit many different experiences. The Nagakort experience was not among the better ones.
Finally, travel agencies make money by selling impressions and emotions. It should therefore be in their interest that the tourist places are in conditions that generate positive impressions and emotions. Nagarkot, particularly the Nagarkot Tower area, urgently needs a clean-up. Littering is so spoiling the place that I left prematurely. Travel agencies, in their own interest, should engage themselves in keeping this place clean and worthwhile a visit.

The views on this trek were the best we ever had, on all days it was spectacular: stupa's, mountains, lovely villages, rivers, bridges, etc. We also loved our acclimatisation day from Namche up to the Everest hotel. The monastery in Tengboche is also very impressive to visit. Also all view points were worth it: Kala Pathar, Gokyo lakes, Gokyo Ri, Cho La pass.

Upper mustang trek, Nepal - Sep 4 - Sep 17, 2017

Traveler: Ben C. - Local specialist: Ngima Dorji Sherpa

One of the best trips I've had arranged with an agent and I've done +20 agent coordinated trips. Impressed with Kimkim from top to bottom.

It was an excellent trip by Ngima and his team. We had one day that was less than perfect due to our guide (Tshering) under estimating our hiking time (5 hours vs 12 hours) which led to a challenging and over strenuous day. Other than that the entire trip was excellent, including the two porters (Lale - excellent; Bikram - good).

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I am very happy that you had a wonderful experience in Nepal and you are satisfied with the services provided by our staffs. I will look forward to meet you soon in near future for your next trip to Nepal.

He worked out a trip that made sense, mostly, and it was well organized, everything was thought out in advance and worked out, nearly, perfectly.

The only reason the trip was not perfect was that the weather interfered since we started with a flight to Lukla that was weather-dependent, so we lost 1.5 days from our trek and had to shorten it by a destination. This was not Ngima's fault, of course. But, in hindsight, I'd recommend that if one is on a very short trip like we were, then losing a few days to weather (only because of flying, we can hike in rain) is painful and I'd recommend a destination that does not require such a flight if it is going to be vulnerable due to weather.

Ngima Dorji Sherpa, local specialist, responded to this review:

Thank you very much Joseph for taking your time in sharing your wonderful trek experience. We are glad that you enjoyed your trip but yes weather was a bit challenging.

We heartily thank you for appreciating our services and we hope to serve you again in near future for your next trip in Nepal.

I am surprised that no-one has thought of informing of these extra costs.

Meals were provided but I was always only allowed to order 1 item per meal. This was really not enough when trekking for long hours every day.

Also tipping of guide and porter was a substantial extra expense - 250 USD shared among them. As a lone traveller this has been an extremely costly affair. The guide and porter I was happy with though.

I was overall very pleased with Ngima but I would have appreciated the information I have mentioned previously.

* Note : Airfares are subject to change without prior notice.

Regarding your comment on drinking water, hot shower, wifi and battery charging cost, please refer to the 5th and 7th points on "price excludes" section which clearly defines that hot shower and drinking water is not included in the given cost. Also your personal expenses like wifi and battery charging related to phone are also not included in the given cost. I hope you realize that we had informed everything in advance before you book your trip.

Regarding meals, I had a long meeting with your trek guide Mr. Mingma Gyaljen Sherpa regarding this issue and he informed me the exact scenario on what actually happened. I hope you are well known about the fact that breakfast, lunch and dinner are given one time each per day and is also mentioned in the cost include section. Tea/ coffee is provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner (which comes out to be 3 tea/coffee per day) but I suppose you were served tea/ coffee more than 3 times a day. Your trek price was also budgeted based on 1 time breakfast, lunch and dinner per day. Any extra expenses besides these three meals should be born by trekkers themselves which is obvious. The guide informed me that he had informed everything regarding your meal plan on trek briefing after you reach Lukla.

And lastly about tipping, gratitude is also mentioned in cost excluded section. Tipping is a private matter and decision based on your level of satisfaction. The tip of $250 shows that you are very very happy with the trek and services of our staffs and our company.

I hope my above clarification is now able to erase all your confusion and assure you that you were in the safe hands during your visit in Nepal. I appreciate your honesty in placing forth your feelings and experience without any exaggeration besides the confused points.

Thank you for travelling with us.

Best wishes,

Ngima.

Nepal trip, Nepal - Apr 10 - Apr 15, 2017

Traveler: Elaine B. - Local specialist: Ngima Dorji Sherpa

I was very impressed with the working of the website, it seemed very efficient and beautifully designed. In fact it was the design that first persuaded me to look further.

I would say it was really great. Ngima was extremely professional and gave me the impression that he was understanding all my demands. The trip was organised very well and I felt in capable hands the whole way. This was especially important as I had some medical issues that needed understanding in terms of trekking.
I think on these points you need something between Perfect and Good.

Ngima Dorji Sherpa, local specialist, responded to this review:

Dear Elaine,

First and foremost, thank you very much for travelling with us and I am very glad and happy to know that you are very satisfied with our services which think is our great achievement. We hope to welcome you soon again for your next visit to Nepal and would love to avail our services once again for you and make your trip worth memorable.

I can not say enough positive things about our experience, especially with Ngima. Planning a trip for a family of four including a trek in the highest mountains in the world is no small task. KimKim and especially Nigima made it manageable and enjoyable. Five stars!

I cannot say enough positive things about Ngima Dorji Sherpa!!!! His professionalism, responsiveness and courtesy are top notch! From the moment we were connected with him virtually while we were planning our trip to our first meeting in Kathmandu to our final encounter at the airport, we knew he was holding our trip that included a two week trek with care and professionalism. Also, through the course of our experience, we learned how important he is to the development of his home community in the Solu-Khumu region - he gives back incredibly by helping build schools and a monastery - it was an honor to support his business. Another thing I would like to note is how comfortable we felt with him - it was easy to communicate and connect on both a professional and friendly level. I hope to go back to Nepal - I would absolutely hire Ngima and his company and our fabulous guides Lahkpa and Tashi and our dedicated, strong and trustworthy porters Nima and Tara again in a heartbeat.

I guess my two suggestions would be: 1. You don't necessarily have to spend the night in Hile, especially when you have a car arranged to pick you up there. I guess for those that have a tighter schedule. 2. When you do stay overnight in Hile just as we did, in hindsight we would have had no problem to walk the next day to Biretanthi. I mean the car was perfect and we had I think the best driver of the whole of Nepal, yet it feels a bit like we bother the villagers and trekkers that did walk... read more
