Tina Oo

I love traveling and it's my lifelong passion, and I am happy to share my experiences with fellow travelers. That is the reason I became a travel consultant and never got tired of this routine even after 9 years. Originally from Myanmar, I have seen many beautiful and fascinating places in my country, which I introduced to many clients and am very proud of. Apart from Myanmar, my favorite destinations are Thailand and Bali in Southeast Asia and I am thrilled to be one of the local experts in Thailand. With my years of experience, affection for the destinations, and passion, I know I can make a valuable trip for you and you won’t ever forget what you experience here in Thailand.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I specialized in most parts of Thailand from the North to Southern islands and East to West border. I love to recommend less tourists yet worth visiting destinations like Mae Salong, Kanchanaburi, Sukhothai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Khao Luang, Khao Sok, Khao Lak, Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Kood, Koh Libong, and Koh Lipe.

Since I mainly focus on sustainable and community-based tourism, I also specialized in activities like homestay, trekking, and hiking, animal welfare activities like bird watching, and elephant care, sustainable activities like plogging and tea plantation, and slow travel activities like yoga, and meditation, and alms giving ceremony. "

How did you get involved in travel?

"I didn’t know what I would be doing after I graduated, until the senior year of my master's degree in 2014. My mom wanted me to join her as a teacher when I graduated, but I knew that it was not something I wanted to go for. I think I've been craving to see and experience new places and want to challenge something out of my comfort zone.

At that time, one of my friends was working as a travel guide and she introduced me to the world of tourism. And I found that it was a fantastic career that you travel and get paid for. That was my first encounter with the travel industry and I shortly became part of it as soon as I graduated.

When I started, I joined as an operation executive where I learned to arrange and book everything for clients including checking the routing and problem-solving. This is an important step for me to become a specialist now. Also, problem-solving skill is not something you can easily achieve and I am grateful that I met different people and learned about their unique and diverse nature. Thanks to this, I got the chance to experience every kind of issue and how to deal with it smart. This truly helped me to become a skillful specialist today. "

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"When I came to Thailand for the first time, I didn’t know the language or people. Even though I don’t speak Thai, the people here are kind enough to communicate in body language and help me in many different ways. And I was lucky enough to visit Khao Yai together with local friends at that time. Khao Yai is a famous vacation place for Thai people which they always visit during winter time to feel the cold. It is a nearby mountainous area and just a 3-hour drive away from Bangkok.

At first, I was just invited to a family party on Christmas Eve. After the party, they decided to go to Khao Yai the next day spontaneously and invited me to join them. Finally, I ended up sleeping at their house that night. The next day, we drive to Khao Yai through beautiful lanes and colorful trees. I was really surprised that how come they took a stranger like me on their trip because I met them only 2 times before the trip. They took care of me as best they could. I felt warm and thankful for their kindness and it was just an incredible experience that I've ever had in Thailand.

After the trip, I realized that although the choice of destination is important, good experiences matter the most to become a beautiful and memorable trip. And that is the reason I am trying my best to bring every good experience to each destination when I help travelers plan their trips. And I am really really happy when they love it."

Tina planned an amazing 8-day trip for my group across Bangkok and Phuket, and overall, we had a truly great experience. The itinerary was full, well-organized, and we made incredible memories together.
For the Bangkok portion, our tour guide Leenna was wonderful. She was knowledgeable, kind, and gave us the perfect amount of information without overwhelming us. We also loved having the same driver throughout our time in Bangkok — it made everything smooth and stress-free.
There were a couple of areas that could be improved for future travelers. Several parts of the itinerary mentioned stopping by temples, but it wasn’t clearly stated that we would be entering them. Because of that, we weren’t prepared with the proper attire and ended up having to purchase clothing almost every day. It would be really helpful for clients to know ahead of time when temple attire is required.
When we arrived in Phuket, our guide Ben was very sweet, but she talked a lot, to the point where it became a bit overwhelming and didn’t allow us the autonomy to just enjoy and soak in the beauty of Phuket at our own pace. We still had an amazing time at all of our excursions — everything we did was incredible — but the guiding style felt a little intense at times.
Another small challenge was that in Phuket we did not have one consistent driver, and we weren’t given advance information each day about who our driver would be. Not knowing who to look for during pickups was nerve-wracking at times, so having either a consistent driver or clearer daily communication would make a big difference.
Despite those minor issues, the trip was truly amazing overall. We had a fantastic time, created beautiful memories, and I’m very happy we went. Thank you to Tina for helping us plan such a memorable adventure!

Overall: Our trip to Thailand was an incredible experience with many once-in-a-lifetime experiences. I gave the trip 4 stars out of 5 mainly because the Ko Phi Phi portion wasn’t for us and if we had it to do over again we would have spent time at a different location. This is not a reflection of KimKim and the outstanding service provided, but our lack of research. We would use KimKim again and highly recommend KimKim without hesitation. KimKim did an excellent job coordinating a great itinerary and logistics were excellent with a couple of minor issues - one pickup was delayed substantially and required calling KimKim. Tina, our itinerary coordinator was exceptional - always available to answer questions and help with any issues that came our way. We will definitely use KimKim for future trips.

This review will cover each of the itinerary items in detail. But overall the itinerary was a great collection of activities. We really appreciated having all the airport transfers organized ahead of time-this relieved a lot of stress. A couple of issues to point out: the itinerary was probably too fast paced for us - in one case we had to cancel an activity because we needed a bit more leisure time to recover from travel. Also, scheduling a 3 hour tour of temples, in the heat of the day, immediately after arriving at our hotel after a morning of travel was not desirable. We understand there is a desire by KimKim to fit in as many activities as possible.

Day 1 - Arrival in Bangkok
Pickup at the airport was without issue. The airport was quite busy (as expected!) with many groups being picked up. However, we were connected with KimKim and transported to our hotel relatively quickly. Our hotel, the Quarter Ari, was quite nice and our suite fit our family well. Pickup required meeting multiple family members at the airport at different times and KimKim’s flexibility in supporting multiple pickups was nice.

Day 2 - Walking Tour of Bangkok
We were greeted by our tour guide, Betty, in the morning (right on time). Betty was fantastic, one of the best tour guides we’ve had, not only on this tour but any. Betty took us on tours of temples, the recently opened Grand Palace, and the flower market and weekend market. The tours were great and Betty was a fount of knowledge, explaining many historical and contemporary facts relating to Bangkok and Thailand.

Day 3 - Floating Market, Railway Market, and Chinatown
We met Betty and our driver in the lobby of our hotel in the morning right on time to drive to the Floating Market and Railway Market. The Floating Market was great. The Railway Market was a bit cramped for what we wanted at the time.

One note: with Floating Market and Railway Markets back-to-back we didn’t have time for lunch so got a late lunch (~3:00pm) when we were back at the hotel. However, when it came time to eat in China town we weren’t hungry - fitting in time for a lunch meal earlier would have been better.

China town was very interesting, but probably too crowded for us after a long day (and the day before), and as mentioned we weren’t hungry for the dinner Betty bought for us. We got our first taste of mango sticky rice which was delicious!

Day 4 - Travel to Chiang Mai and Temple Tours and Flower Market
Travel to Chiang Mai went perfectly. Our driver met us at the hotel and transported us to the airport on time. Pick up at the Chiang Mai airport was also seamless. However, when we arrived at our hotel we were immediately greeted by our guide to take us on tours of the historic Chiang Mai temples. It would have been much better to provide an open afternoon after our arrival to adjust to Chiang Mai and our hotel the Phra Singh - which was excellent (probably the best hotel of all that we stayed at). One of our group decided to skip the tour because they needed to rest. Also, to be honest our guide was not good for the temple tour. He was a very nice man, but his English was difficult to understand, and he often didn’t respond to our questions because it seemed he had difficulty understanding us. The Flower Market was nice, but not much compared to the one in Bangkok, so maybe this could have been skipped.

Overall, Chiang Mai was incredible. Great laid back vibe, with a lot of art and culture. Could have stayed an extra day.

Day 5 - Grandma’s Cooking Class

Met our driver and departed for the cooking class on time. Grandma’s cooking class was excellent. The Chef/Instructor was great - spoke great english and was very enthusiastic and effective at managing and teaching the class. When my daughter burned her finger he was very attentive. Highly recommended.

In the afternoon, because we were quite tired we canceled the Temple and Hill Tribes tour.

Day 6 - Elephant Sanctuary

Met our driver on time for a nice drive to the Elephant Sanctuary. The tour of the sanctuary was great. The guide was excellent, introducing us to the elephants, their behavior, and the philosophy of the sanctuary. Recommended.
In the afternoon, several of us had wonderful massages at the spa across from the hotel.

Day 7 - Travel to Phuket

Travel to the Chiang Mai airport for our flight to Phuket was uneventful. Tina helped us check in to our flight and provided all necessary booking information. Pickup at the Phuket airport was a bit delayed requiring us to call Tina to inquire about who would be meeting us. The Novotel Hotel was nice. It would have been nicer had we requested a room with a view. We also would consider upgrading hotels in the future.

Day 8 - John Gray’s - Hong By Starlight

To be honest we were dreading the fact that this event was scheduled to go from 10:00a - 9:00p. But this activity was fantastic - probably the highlight of our trip. The islands were incredible, John Gray’s did an outstanding job as tour guides and navigating the sea kayak’s. Food was some of the best on the trip, and the sunset, starlight tour with bioluminescence was absolutely magical. Highly, highly recommended.

Day 9 - Leisure day

It was great to have a leisure day.

Day 10 - 12 Ko Phi Phi

I’ll review Ko Phi Phi overall as there weren’t many separate activities other than the Scuba Diving which was excellent. Although, to be honest other than the diving, Ko Phi Phi wasn’t really for us as we were looking for more of a beach experience.

Travel to Phi Phi via ferry was on time. Tina provided us with the booking information, check in and travel went without incident with our hotel reps picking us up at the pier. ChaoKo PhiPhi had a couple of issues. While the hotel grounds and facilities were nice if spartan, our rooms faced trashy alleyways and one room smelled to the point that we needed to change rooms, which took over a day. It didn’t appear there were any hotels on the island that were any better - so were we to do it again we would probably find an alternate destination rather than Phi Phi.

The scuba diving was exceptional. Blue Water Divers was excellent, friendly, safe, thorough. Highly recommended.

Day 13 - Travel to Bangkok

Travel on day 13 was long - speed boat to Phuket pier, pier to airport, flight to bangkok, ride to Hotel, all of which took the entire day. Travel was uneventful and well coordinated by Tina. One note: we took a speed boat from Phi Phi to Phuket which was very rough (in part due to the weather). But the speed boat might not be for everyone, especially those who get sea sick.

Day 14 - Shopping in Bangkok, Traveling back to the U.S.

It was nice to explore Bangkok a bit more and do some shopping. Travel to the airport was uneventful. The departing flight was on time.

Every transfer, flight, and tour was perfectly coordinated, and we never had to worry about a thing. Huge thanks to Mint, Tina, and the local team for planning such an incredible experience and making it completely stress-free.

We started in Bangkok. Our guide, Ms. Anita, was amazing and so was our driver, Poo. She took us through the city’s most iconic temples, a local ferry ride, and even a food tour through Chinatown that was one of our favorite experiences. The next day’s visit to the Railway Market and Floating Market was such a unique, local highlight. Next stop was Chiang Mai. The temples were beautiful, but the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary was easily one of the best experiences of our entire trip. We also had a blast during our Thai cooking class and came home with new recipes and a deeper appreciation for Thai food. We ended our trip in Phuket. We loved our Phi Phi Islands tour and relaxing at the pools and beaches. It was the perfect mix of adventure and downtime.

Every hotel, guide, and experience exceeded expectations. Kimkim made this trip completely stress-free and truly unforgettable. Highly recommend for anyone planning a honeymoon or bucket-list vacation!

The destination: Thailand is one of those places you fall in love with easy, you get the feeling while on the trip that you want to move there, the people are nice and welcoming, you always feel safe and views and attractions are just mesmerizing, you really don't want to go back home... unless you already live there :)
We will definitely come back to Thailand, we have some takeaways in terms if things we want to do differently, like renting a car or bikes while on the islands, that is more cost effective than taxis, choosing specific hotels and room types, locations on the islands etc... but other than that, perfect vacation!

The process of getting a trip plan organised and the communication with Tina/Kim Kim throughout the process was great. It is possible that there was some misunderstanding about exactly what we were after but this was probably not Tinas fault. We were disappointed with Bangkok and found our tour to be too long, too detailed and the family lost interest. We cancelled our day 2 tour for this reason. Our excursions in Chang Mai were generally great, except for mountain trip which was completely fogged out and we could see nothing. The elephant sanctuary and the cooking class were fabulous. The company we did our diving in Koh Tao was also a great. Some of the other tours were not as good. When you say small group tours I expected maybe 10 people, not 30 something as was the case with the Ang Thong Marine Park trip. The boat was packed, no room to move and you could not see out of it. The whole day was like herding sheep from one overcrowded destination to another with too much time at each. I would have much preferred a private trip and would have been happy to pay for it.

This was sold to us as a small group tour. I do not consider 30 plus people a small group. the trip to the first island takes nearly 2 hours. You are squashed in a speedboat with your knees touching the seat in front of you. You cannot see out of the boat unless you stand up. The destinations are pretty but are overcrowded with 100's of people on similar excursions. You spend too much time at each place and it is like herding sheep.

We had such a fantastic trip to Thailand! We were initially hesitant to book through KimKim because the price was so much lower than through the other travel companies we considered, but we took a chance and are so glad we did! KimKim reps met us at each airport on our trip and transported us to our hotels, taking away so much travel stress. The hotels they booked in each of our destinations (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, & Koh Samui) were all great and in fantastic locations. We knew we weren’t booking luxury hotels and we didn’t expect luxury amenities, but we were very pleasantly surprised with how luxurious our accommodations were. Each hotel was very clean, very safe, and very comfortable — and had gorgeous swimming pools, very nice and spacious rooms, and delicious breakfasts included — far more than you get with included breakfasts in the U.S.
Leo, our guide in Bangkok, was a delight—striking the perfect note between taking us to all the sites and experiences we were excited about while also giving us plenty of time to rest and enjoy our vacation. We particularly enjoyed visiting the palaces and temples and trying out the foods in the markets and night markets. Leo even helped us order! We arrived in Bangkok early and had 2 days on our own. We spent those visiting Benchakitti and Lumphini Parks - which I highly recommend — and the Snake Experience, where we saw how anti venom is made by extracting venom from live cobras — this turned out to be a favorite experience of the teens in our group! We also visited the Jim Thompson House and the indoor floating market at the IconSiam shopping mall. If you have more time, I recommend all of these experiences. And, on the recommendation of a friend, we went to the Akara Sky Hanuman high rise rooftop dining & show experience— we had a blast and the views were spectacular!
The highlight of our Chiang Mai visit — and possibly of our entire trip— was the elephant sanctuary! Getting to interact so closely with the elephants was unreal. Do not skip that experience!!! The rest of Chiang Mai was less exciting — the drive to the mountain top and to see the waterfall and gardens was beautiful and easy for everyone in our group. We were worried my 75 year old mother might struggle — but easily did it all, and did it in flip flops! And the cooler temps at the top of the mountain were a welcomed respite from the heat. We also walked the city in our own to see the temples and the old wall. Protip: I asked ChatGPT to create a 3 hour walking tour that started at our hotel and took us to the major temples, then I imported that tour into Googlemaps. Worked great! Personally, I would have enjoyed having a guided tour and learning more about each temple, but the self guided walking tour was all the rest of my group was interested in after spending so much time in more impressive temples in Bangkok.
We purposely ended our trip in Koh Samui so we could have some relaxing beach time. My only criticism there is that the Pig Island excursion was awful and not something I would recommend. Instead of a charming encounter with pigs like we expected, we were told on the boat ride over that the pigs are very dangerous and bite off tourists’ fingertips EVERY DAY. They’re also quite aggressive. One sow rammed me when I was just sitting at a table because she wanted to lie where my feet were. It hurt and cut my leg and left a bruise. I would not take young children on this excursion at all because I don’t think they would appreciate how dangerous and aggressive the pigs are, and there are so many adorable piglets, I don’t think a young child would be able to resist touching them or trying to hold one.
While we were there, a pack of wild dogs attacked a piglet and began eating it live right in front of us — truly horrifying! — ans the piglet screamed for help. A group of tourists intervened to stop it and scare off the dogs, but I doubt the piglet survived. My 13 year old was crying at this point and went to go sit on the boat. And then, again and again, two or three boars chased down and raped sows in front of us, clearly against their will. At one point they did this right under a table of tourists, using the tourists to corner the sow so she couldn’t escape while 3 boars attacked her. Eventually we all sat on top of the tables for safety until it was time to leave.
The snorkeling portion of the Pig Island trip was also lackluster. Very poor visibility and a location that could be described as mid — at best.
But Pig Island was the only part of our entire trip I wouldn’t recommend, and it was so indescribably bad that we’ll be laughing about it for many years to come.
We ended our time in Koh Samui at a restaurant that was recommended by a local — Lanlandaw Viewpoint Restaurant. I highly recommend this! The front desk staff at the hotel (who were wonderful!) helped us arrange it all. A driver from the restaurant came to pick us up and then drove us about 20 minutes over rutted dirt roads up a mountain to the restaurant, which featured a spectacular overlook and view and great food. Be advised, it’s cash only —no credit cards!
All in all, a spectacular, almost seamless, vacation that was everything we hoped for and even better than we expected. We will certainly use KimKim again and we’re already talking about where we should go for our next trip!
