Travelers making the 500-mile (807 km) trip from Hanoi to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hoi An have several options for completing the journey. The fastest route and best option is an hourlong flight to Danang, going by private transfer the rest of the way.

By Plane and Private Transfer

The quickest and most popular option for travel between Hanoi and Hoi An is by plane and private transfer. The first leg of the journey will be a flight from Hanoi to Danang, which quick and easy, at only one hour and fifteen minutes.

From Danang, the remainder of the journey should take approximately 45 minutes, depending on weather and traffic. The drive will take you along the coast, and those traveling by car may wish to stop at some point along the way to experience a Vietnamese beach. The beach at Non Nuoc is particularly pristine, offering beautiful views of the Ngu Hang mountains. Surfing, sunbathing, and seafood abound for those might like to make it a longer stop. 

By Train and Private Transfer 

Duration: 17 hours, 45 minutes 

For those who don't mind the significantly longer travel time, the train ride from Hanoi to Danang offers an opportunity to experience Vietnam's train system, and complete a portion of the journey overnight. Travelers should reserve one of several available private train operators, which will be notably more comfortable than public trains. If public trains are reserved, first-class seats are much more comfortable and can be reserved in advance. 

From Danang, the same private transfer option will apply, with a 45-minute journey along the coast.
