What you'll do
This family-friendly outback adventure starts just before sunset, when you transfer to a local camel farm near the gateway to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by experienced cameleers with a deep passion for their camels and the desert landscape. Meet your gentle mount (one of a string of 12 rescued and rehabilitated dromedaries), and set off on a peaceful one-hour ride, crossing arid red sand dunes against a spectacular backdrop of Uluru and Kata Tjuta.
During the ride, the cameleers will share their extensive knowledge of the local flora and fauna you spot along the trail, and you can learn more about the region's history (and why camels were introduced to the outback and still roam wild there). As dusk approaches, you'll stop at a remote lookout point just in time to watch the sunset paint the rock monoliths of Uluru and Kata Tjuta in brilliant colors. Return to the farm afterward to enjoy Australian beer, wine, or Champagne and outback bush snacks, including freshly baked beer damper (a type of local bread), before your return transfer.
