Ana Sofía Lanz

Hi! I'm proudly Mexican and deeply passionate about helping people discover and fall in love with Mexico—just like I have. I love getting excited with my travelers, as if I were going on the journey with them! My curiosity constantly drives me to explore new experiences, always seeking ways to connect with the diverse communities and cultures that make Mexico so special. If you're looking to have fun, explore, and enjoy an unforgettable trip, I'm here and ready to help you every step of the way!

How did you get involved in travel?

"Ever since I was a little girl, every time I traveled somewhere, I loved researching the place beforehand—looking at pictures, learning about it, and getting excited so I could enjoy it to the fullest once I arrived. As I grew up, that curiosity and love for travel kept growing too, to the point that I decided to turn it into my profession. What could be better than doing what I love and helping others fall in love with Mexico along the way?"

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"One travel experience I’ll never forget was during my time at university, when I spent a semester in Rome, Italy, doing my professional internship. During that time, I had the chance to travel around different European countries and explore many beautiful places within Italy as well. On those journeys, I met incredible people who became like family to me, and I also got to connect with myself in a deeper way while discovering some truly amazing and unforgettable places."

Kimkim Travel Planning Service arranged our personalized trip with a local travel group called Rutopia. This well curated trip of Puebla and Mexico City for 7 days is titled "Flavors, Art & Heritage: A Mother-Daughter Journey Through Mexico." And we did just that! It was seamless with well communicated daily agenda that had fun, educational experiences and extraordinarily delicious tastings included. Just let them know what you want to see, do and experience and they deliver them very nicely! We highly recommend them!

Ana Sofia faced-time with us to get a sense of what type of experience we wanted, give us a chance to convey our goals. Of course, throughout the time of planning, we came up with more requests and ideas, and so did Ana, who made the necessary adjustments. Ana was very responsive to our needs. And so were Luz and Maria who were the local agents. The drivers and tour guides made us feel very safe and cared for. We sensed their pride for their culture which made it more enjoyable for us.

Highlights: A. Museum of Anthropology, Museo Soumaya, Frida Kahlo's Red House, Anahuacalli Museum, Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera's Houses and Work studios. Puebla City/Cholula is a must for its charm and slow pace. The beautiful cathedrals, hearing the histories, their differences in beauty.
B. Street Food Tour in Puebla - It's the only way to taste and experience what the locals do, so fun and delicious!
C. The Milli Restaurant, Corn Kitchen in Cholula - excellent food, demonstration with audience participation in this nationally award-winning cooperative of farmers promoting ancient, original corn.
D. Wonderful Tastings menu and experience of a Milpa Dinner at Tezontle restaurant in the Casa de la Luz Hotel.
E. The hotels that were centrally located, catering to our needs of having a pool for relaxation between the activity-filled days.
F. Sonora Grill Reforma - One of the recommendations when we were on our own. Just the type of break we needed . It had a lively atmosphere and very delicious steaks!!
G. The door to door private ride service and tours: Worry free car rides and tours that started from our hotel.

You may skip the boat ride of the canals of Xochimilco. A one-time experience is more than enough. We happen to have asked for it and didn't know aside from the write-ups. Although, it was nice to drive through the very long garden/flower market. Unless you want to have an hour-long party drinking, eating, singing with a Mariachi band while riding the vey colorful boats, it's not our groove. We found it too commercialized and the river jam packed with boats and cacophony of different Mariachi bands singing side by side. One boat even had music playing loudly amongst the other live bands. I could imagine how it must have been a long time ago when the boats were decorated with fresh flowers and steered along the shallow river by the boatman using his long pole.

Suggested improvement: Having the drivers (and their cars) and tour guides refrain from wearing strong scents. I happen to be very sensitive to it and Luz listened to my needs and responded quite well by making the necessary adjustments, after a couple of tries. The driver replacement did not wear perfume but his car, although it was very clean, was heavily scented. The issue was eventually resolved.

Casona de los Sapos Hotel Boutique
Puebla

Our stay at Casona de los Sapos was wonderful. The hotel is beautiful, with unique historic architecture and elegant rooms that made our stay in Puebla feel special. The location is perfect—right in the historic center and within walking distance of so many sights, markets, and restaurants. The staff was warm and attentive, and breakfast each morning was great. It was a relaxing, stylish place to return to after a day of exploring the city. We would absolutely stay here again.

Casa Blanca
Mexico City

Casa Blanca Hotel has a great central location that made it easy to explore Mexico City, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. However, the overall experience was a bit mixed. The hotel feels quite dated, with a very 1990s-style atmosphere, and the beds were on the stiff side. The area around the hotel was also quite loud, and construction next door created a lot of noise during the day. While the location and staff were definite positives, the noise and older feel of the hotel made the stay less comfortable than we had hoped.

Hotel Review
Blue Diamond Luxury Boutique Hotel
Playa del Carmen

A nice hotel, but maybe getting a bit long in the tooth. Helpful staff. The pool is nothing special and the beach is just okay. It was all inclusive so food and drinks are part of the package. Be sure to bring ample cash and make sure to tip, and tip often. Three large projects are being developed right next to it which may be a bit overwhelming in the future. I’d give the Blue Diamond a solid four stars…but definitely doesn’t approach a five-star property.

Casa González
Mexico City

We have stayed at this hotel twice now, it is always clean, the gardens are beautiful and a pleasure to sit and relax in after a day of exploring. The breakfast they offer is as good as you will find in any of the restaurants nearby.

Authenticity & Character
Like the city itself, it is a mix of newer amenities but, with that old world look and charm.
Location
It is located in an area that is very walkable to many sites in Mexico City.
Staff
The staff is warm and friendly, as well as always being ready to help, rather you need something in your room or a recommendation.
Cleanliness & Comfort
This is. Very clean hotel, they also offer laundry service for a reasonable fee.
Majagua
Oaxaca

It felt like some of the staff was exhausted and overworked. The bar was supposed to be a restaurant too but all we saw was a rudimentary breakfast. Most of the staff were pleasant and helpful, but others, not so much. The facility was quite pleasant looking and most things worked well.

Authenticity & Character
New and modern but I prefer traditional.
Location
Adjacent to a great park with lots going on and one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve been to - Arte Italia.
Staff
Mostly fine.
Cleanliness & Comfort
El Sueño Hotel & Spa
Puebla

The room was clean and nice, but we noticed that the lamps by the bed kept flickering and upon inspection the wiring for them was scary. The restaurant was kind of spendy with a limited offering. The breakfast that came with the room was okay at best, and also very limited.

Authenticity & Character
A bit too much spa like for our taste.
Location
The location was good, near most of what you will want to see in Puebla.

Cleanliness & Comfort

We had about 9 different guides, and every single one was excellent, sharing lots of info, but always in an interesting way. Carlo, our driver for 3 days, proud Mayan speaking perfect English, was simply amazing, as a driver, assistant, and very knowledgeable ambassador for Mayan culture and people.
Valladolid and the archaeological wonders of Chichen Itsa, Yaxunah, Ek Balam and Tulum were all fascinating, and the tours of them quite educational. This 77-year-old successfully climbed the 106 steep, narrow steps of Ek Balam's Acropolis, a former royal palace & temple, and the panoramic views of the surrounding jungle from the top were amazing!
Other highlights:
Imagine me comfortably, peacefully floating in the middle of the beautiful Lol-Ha Cenote.
A private boat ride in Rio Lagartos - Las Colorades was a wonderful adventure in nature - flamingos, mangroves, a great variety of birds perched along the shore, and getting up close to a few crocodiles.
Our private "cooking class" in Nuevo Durango was a rich traditional Mayan cultural & gastronomical experience.
Snorkeling at the Caribbean coral reef – enjoying seeing a big ray, several turtles (some getting very close), & lots of beautiful fish.
Being in an underground river surrounded by thousand-year-old stalactites and stalagmites - a fascinating experience.
Enjoying a wondrous variety of tacos and other foods during our food tour in Tulum.
In conclusion, we want to give all the people at kimkim and Rutopia who were involved in our journey High Accolades for a fabulous vacation. Ana Sofia patiently crafted a trip that was rich and full of marvelous activities, in a balanced itinerary that was structured perfectly to be full, but not tire us out in any way. It was full of Mayan culture, history, architectural wonders, natural beauty, fascinating wildlife, vivid colors, delicious food, basically non-stop enjoyment, and fun! The Real Hispano hotel is beaufiful, authentic, and conveniently located in colorful Valladolid. The Piedra Escondida in Tulum is a tropical secluded beach Paradise!
Ana Sofia patiently worked with us, really listened and understood our desires, concerns, and limitations. In a word, she cared about us and about creating an amazing trip for us. When a proposed activity or location wasn’t right, she cheerfully did more research and replaced it, leading to a truly personalized, nearly perfect, amazing trip of a lifetime!
And then there was Luz Maria from Rutopia, our loyal WhatsApp buddy, cheerfully and competently accompanying, supporting, and caring about us every day of the trip. What a gift! – giving us daily information, helping us in so many ways, answering our questions, really hearing our concerns, and fixing “problems” whenever possible. Just being there for us every day. Making sure that Ana Sofia’s beautiful plan was well implemented. Wow.

Sit on the porch of the on-site restaurant, savoring wonderful breakfasts, fresh Caribbean seafood, and delicious Yucatan and Italian cuisine. Very helpful and friendly staff.
