I was born in Thessaloniki, Greece's second largest and —to my belief— most vibrant city, and a gastronomic paradise. I always loved being a traveler of my own birthplace, collecting all the city guides and travel magazines, old and new, strolling around for hours and hours searching for the cutest cafés, the oldest bakeries, the buildings with the best view, the new openings.
I learnt my city like the back of my hand, and it was time for new adventures. Studies, and work took me from Northern Italy (where I found my home away from home and I am forever convinced to have been Italian in another life) to Spain's Catalonia, to the French Atlantic coast, to the North of Portugal and back to Italy for a full immersion into its endless wine world. Five years of living out of a suitcase, four countries, seven regions, eleven temporary homes until I found my way back to Greece, to live in an Aegean island.
I have a passion for discovering and sharing the unique tastes and aromas of a place, what its lands produce and what its people make. The producers, the farmers, the artists, the gastronomes, the artisans, the makers of any kind, who make a place what it is. It was a bit stressful that drivers took us to the wrong Ferrari museum. We appreciated the local representative calling the museum and making the F1 simulator work out even though we arrived well after 2 of our time slots. We have a teen who is a huge F1 fan, so we were glad to make the trip. However, if you are not a Ferrari fanatic I would not recommend the detour.

Both cities were neat. We especially like San Gimignano. Climbed the tower and had incredible views. Only negative was such a short time in both. Winery tour with lunch was so lovely. Again, perhaps too much for one day but otherwise really nice. We did end up paying for an extra hour with the driver to have more time in Siena. It may have been nice to go through this schedule a little more with us in advance - we probably would have requested a guide and the extra time beforehand. We still enjoyed it but quite a busy day.

Guide was great. It was really hot and crowded the day of our tour and our 5 year old was worn out from the Papal audience in the morning, but our guide (Gaia) tried really hard to keep him engaged and it was sweet. Obviously in 2 hours it’s not possible to do an in depth tour of the Vatican museum and St. Peter’s but it was a great overview. As Catholics who wanted to pass through the Holy Door for the Jubilee and have time to pray in the Basilica, we appreciated that Gaia explained all of the info we needed to have these special moments with our children.

In bed and breakfast in Sorrento, should have been forewarned that car service would have to drop us off two blocks from hotel; would have liked a landmark of where hotel was located, because even with google maps, it was up a stairway and almost impossible to locate. All that would have needed to be communicated was the stores or restaurants on either side of street. Location of Palazzo Staracce was double edged, loud all night long, but in a great location. No blinds on windows, up at crack of dawn. Should have communicated all of this to us. No elevator and breakfast was satisfactory at best.
When booking in a country you are not familiar with, the agent should communicate these things with you as well as booking us to major cities on National Holidays or weekends, since things are closed.
So much more to say about the hotels and their locations.
Hotel Ariel is off the main area, but lovely, but sadly the A/C in the room did not work for three nights, despite the fact that they were made aware of same.
Bettoja Mediteraneo was too far away from everything and as predicted not in the best neighborhood, however, the hotel itself was clean and breakfast was good.
Urban Hive was clean, breakfast was good, but again, summer and the A/C was completely broken. Luckily only had to stay one night.
Plinius Lifestyle Como, good hotel, room small but clean, breakfast above average. Located double edged as very loud all night but in a good location.

We were not listening to other Americans, we were hearing locals speak different languages and we had fun trying to communicate and thankfully most know some English. Our trip was seamless and our drivers were always there to pick us up and our tours were all private as we requested. Let your travel budget be your guide. We saw more places and did more things than we could have using the”package” deals. Hats off to them; I have to recommend them because they deserve it!

The tour guides all excellent for pier private service tours and in the end the Mikos of Mt Etna and Catania, Elise for the shared tours where phenomenal in understanding and appreciating all that we see. My sister and I had a wonderful trip to Italy! Every arrival/departure was met on time and with very attentive drivers, the cars were all beautiful and clean, and we were also treated to bottles of water and even candies with each trip.

All of our guides were knowledgeable and very professional. They were well versed in the locations and engaging in their presentations, providing much historical information and details that we would otherwise have missed. They clearly demonstrated a love of their work and their country.
All of the accommodations were lovely and the staffs were very friendly and helpful. My only suggestion would be for the Venice location - we were on the ground floor and although we were quite comfortable, there was a musty odor due to the proximity to water levels. In the future, I would request an upper floor room, even if there is a higher room rate. Venice was beautiful and we also visited Murano & Burano. Lots of walking and LOTS of steps! What a workout :)
Bologna was definitely the highlight for food! Best lasagna in the world! It was nice to be in a city that didn't feel so crowded. We even got to see the President of Italy who visited and gave a talk the day we were there.
Florence was the jewel city that I'd heard so much about - it certainly did not disappoint! So much to see and experience in such a short time! The silk factory tour was fascinating and our guide was great! We enjoyed our visit to the vineyard/farm but it would have been better had we been able to arrive earlier in the day so that we could really appreciate it. We arrived after dark so there was no opportunity to see the actual vineyards. Perhaps taking into account the season with earlier sunset times would help. I'm happy to say that the wine I ordered from them arrived yesterday, YUM!!
Milan was also a fascinating city. We attended the opera and La Scala was very beautiful. We wished that our seats had either been on the main floor or in the front row of our box. We didn't have chairs, but rather stools, and it was difficult to view the stage.
We fell in love with Stresa! The hotel and staff were wonderful! The town was everything we had hoped for in our visit to Italy. The driving experience was

The stay at Ca' San Giorgio in Venice was charming overall. Our room was on a lower floor, and it had a musty smell due to its proximity to the water, which was understandable given Venice's nature. Had we known, we would have requested a higher floor. Other than that, the room itself was great.

Our stay at Art Hotel Commercianti in Bologna was delightful. The room was beautiful, and the staff were very friendly. Bologna offered some of the best food I've ever had. Despite being a city, it felt less crowded than others, which made the stay more enjoyable.
