Ellen Yokoyama
Hello! I’m Ellen, a travel consultant based in Japan with Ghanaian and Japanese roots. I grew up in Ghana and later studied in Malaysia. Living in different countries showed me how meaningful and fun travel can be when exploring new cultures. The food, the people and the beautiful scenery all inspired me to help other travelers experience Japan in the same way.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"I specialize in custom Japan itineraries with a mix of iconic sights, seasonal nature, and local food. I love planning well paced trips that feel personal, relaxed, and easy to navigate."
How did you get involved in travel?
"I’ve always loved travelling and seeing unique and new things. It could be anything from the local neighborhood, an iconic site or even a festival with the best street food. I love to see them all! So when I saw the opportunity to turn that passion into my job, I took it."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"It is hard to choose just one, but I’ll never forget my first spring trip to Taketa in Oita with a group of friends. We visited Harajiri Falls and it honestly took my breath away. Cherry blossoms lined the top of the cliff and bright yellow canola flowers bloomed down below near the water. It was incredible.
After that, we visited a tulip field nearby, and later headed up to the Oka Castle ruins for an amazing viewpoint, with even more cherry blossoms surrounding the area. It’s still one of those days that pops into my head whenever I think about why I love traveling in Japan and cherish Oita so much.
