They ask me why I left New Zealand and moved to this remote village of 140 people on the border of Finland, Sweden and Norway. This is a place where the sun doesn't set for two months in summer - the mid-winter polar night lasts the same. Within 100 miles we have the Norwegian mountains and crystal-clear fjords, high arctic tundra, the city of Tromso and six nature conservation areas. We have northern lights, wilderness trekking routes from easy after-work trips to demanding mountain trails. We have huskies, snowmobiling, and reindeers. This is where I live, play and work. And I welcome you to join us!

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Above Arctic Circle; Rovaniemi and North-West Finland and Northern Norway. We like to keep you active, so even if you are on a road trip with us, we include at least short nature walks to the programme. Our focus is the nature and all the fun you can do there, whether you like day walks or want us to take you on a three-country Nordic ski trip into the wilderness. We know that visiting the famous cities is important, but otherwise we like to keep you off the busiest destinations and show you the Finland and Norway we love. Whenever possible, we work with small local companies, where we know the owners and who share our values of fun and respect.
As a bonus on our trips, you have a professional photographer as your guide, so you can be sure to see the most photogenic locations, not only the ones famous from social media.

How did you get involved in travel?

"I started travelling after finishing my outdoor instructor studies in New Zealand. I worked in the outdoor industry and travelled in Asia and Europe, finally ending up in Finland for the second time in 2011. That was when I really fell in love with the country, especially Lapland. I also met Elina, my now wife, and never really thought about living elsewhere. My two first seasons in Lapland I worked with other companies, gaining knowledge of the arctic winter conditions.
In 2012, I started my company, and ever since, I have been running custom tours in Finnish Lapland and Northern Norway. One of the most surprising adventures with my company was when I was asked to be the face of a large international Finnish Lapland marketing campaign. My photography and my passion for the outdoors has inspired many.

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Elina took me to the family cabin for the first time in our first summer road trip together. This tiny log cabin stands alone by a big lake, surrounded by thick forests of tall trees, large marshlands and total silence. There is no electricity or running water. The simplicity of everything was astonishing. To light the fire in the sauna, carry the water from the lake, take a swim under the midnight sun. I learned the Finnish meditation – staring over the lake, listening to the sounds of the forest. Disturbed only by the army of mosquitos.
I am not much of a "sit still and just breath" person, I am the buzz and adventure of our company and family. However, the Finnish forest has taught me the wonder of silence. I have learned to appreciate the slow pace, just sitting and taking in the amazing landscapes wherever I travel. I still prefer the movement, fun and adventure, but spiced with some quiet moments.
