Hey there - I'm Gigi - a location independent writer traveling the world with my pint-sized pooch, adorable partner, & freelance business in tow. I've been traveling full-time since May 2012, living my life against a backdrop of charming Parisian neighborhoods, snowy Swiss Alpine towns, and the cobblestone squares of Italy's hill towns. I'm a slow traveler with a deep appreciation for fresh, local food (and its history), fine European wines, and all things outdoorsy. I'm also the author/co-author of 12 guidebooks.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"My heart belongs to Europe, so most of my writing has been about that continent. In particular, I've spent large swaths of my life in France, Italy, and Switzerland (the latter of which I lived in for two years). Slovenia is also a new favorite and I keep finding myself drawn back again and again.
I'm a huge foodie and love finding (and sharing) the best of a region's food experiences and I adore the outdoors (cycling, hiking, kayaking, you name it), so I'm also your go-to girl for the best hikes and distance cycle rides. "
How did you get involved in travel?
"I've been traveling since my teen years, when I convinced my non-traveler parents to let me join a volunteer group on a trip to the Australian Outback."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"Three years ago, I took a month off from my writing work to cycle all the way across France - from the Swiss border to the Atlantic Ocean. I rode a vintage Swiss military bicycle with a basket on the front for my small world-traveling dog. And over the course of about three weeks, we made our way across the country along quiet canals, through charming, cobbled towns, past countless castles in the Loire Valley, and to the ocean, where we dismounted the bike and romped in the surf in celebration.
