I’m all about helping you create the perfect Japan experience, tailored just for you. After a friendly chat to understand what you’re looking for—whether it’s exploring ancient temples, relaxing in a hot spring, tasting amazing food, or diving into the buzz of city life—I’ll design an itinerary that fits your pace and interests. I make sure everything flows smoothly, from trains to hotels, so you can relax and enjoy the journey without the stress. My goal is to create trips that feel personal, memorable, and effortless, giving you the best of Japan, your way.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I will arrange all the essentials - accommodation, transportation, experiences, and a detailed day-by-day itinerary - to help you navigate Japan with ease. Whether it’s your first trip or a return visit, I’ll ensure everything is tailored to your interests and needs, so you can focus on enjoying the journey without the hassle of planning.

Accommodation
Whether you prefer luxury or practicality, I’ll find the perfect hotel to match your budget and style, from comfortable 3-star stays to 5-star luxury accommodations. If you’re interested in staying at a traditional ryokan—a Japanese inn that offers a glimpse into local culture with tatami rooms and hot spring baths—I can make recommendations based on the regions you’ll visit. I’ll take care of all the arrangements, ensuring your ryokan stay includes breakfast and dinner when available, so you experience the warmth of Japanese hospitality.

Transportation
Traveling in Japan is famously efficient, but it can be overwhelming to navigate. I’ll organize everything, from high-speed Shinkansen journeys to local trains, ferries, and buses. You’ll receive a detailed itinerary with train schedules and station names, making it easy to get where you need to go. I’ll also assist with tickets and any special passes to simplify your travel. Whether it’s getting around Tokyo’s intricate subway system or catching a ferry to a scenic island, I’ll ensure every aspect of transportation is seamless.

Experiences
From traditional cultural activities to cutting-edge modern attractions, I’ll arrange all the experiences you’re looking for. If you’re curious about Japanese traditions, I can book a tea ceremony, calligraphy class, or archery lesson. For those interested in performing arts, I’ll secure tickets to kabuki or Noh theatre performances. And if modern attractions are more your style, I can arrange visits to places like TeamLab Borderless, anime-themed cafés, or the Studio Ghibli Museum. Want to explore iconic landmarks such as the Tokyo Skytree or plan a day trip to the picturesque Miyajima Island? Leave it to me. I’ll take care of all reservations and entry tickets ahead of time, ensuring your experience is smooth and stress-free.

Japanese Food
Food is a key part of traveling in Japan, and I’ll help you make the most of it. In addition to daily restaurant recommendations, I’ll make reservations at authentic Japanese restaurants to ensure you enjoy the finest culinary experiences - from kaiseki dining to the best local ramen shops. If you’re staying at a ryokan, I’ll make sure you have meals included, so you can enjoy traditional breakfasts and multi-course dinners. I can also organize food tours, market visits, and sake tastings, giving you a deeper appreciation of Japan’s incredible food culture.

Anime & Disney
If you're an anime enthusiast or a Disney lover, I can craft an unforgettable trip tailored just for you. Whether you're dreaming of visiting the whimsical Studio Ghibli Museum or planning an adventure filled with Pokémon and anime-themed stops, I've got you covered. I can secure tickets to the Ghibli Museum (an absolute must for fans!) and organize full itineraries dedicated to your favorite franchises, like Pokémon, Sailor Moon, or even Demon Slayer. From visiting Akihabara’s bustling anime shops and arcades to sipping on character-inspired drinks at themed cafés, I’ll help you immerse yourself in Japan’s vibrant pop culture scene.

For Disney fans, I can arrange magical visits to Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, two of the most unique Disney parks in the world. Want insider tips on the best rides, shows, and dining experiences? I’ll make sure your Disney days are absolutely perfect.

Looking to shop for rare collectibles, limited-edition merchandise, or cosplay gear? I can recommend the best spots, from sprawling anime superstores like Animate to hidden gems in Harajuku and Ikebukuro. If you’re seeking cultural balance, we can also mix in traditional Japanese experiences like a tea ceremony or kimono rental, giving you the best of both worlds.

With my help, you can focus on having fun while I handle all the reservations, tickets, and insider planning to make your trip as smooth as it is unforgettable."

How did you get involved in travel?

"My love of travel started when I was very young, with family trips to the mountains sparking my curiosity about new places. As I grew older, I went on hiking trips, which deepened my connection to nature and adventure. Eventually, I became a travel writer and, together with my wife, we created a travel website to share our experiences. Over the years, we’ve visited more than 75 countries, always drawn to the unique aspects of walking, food, and culture. These passions have shaped how we explore the world and continue to inspire our travels today."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"My first time in Japan over 10 years ago was an unforgettable experience. Seeing the vibrant neon lights of Tokyo for the first time and visiting the serene mountain shrines left me in awe. It was at that moment I knew I wanted to live here someday. Over the years, I visited every year, falling deeper in love with the culture and landscapes. In 2024, my dream came true when my wife and I finally made the move to Japan. Experiencing this incredible country firsthand inspired me to share its beauty and magic with other travelers, helping them discover what makes Japan so special."

Based on our discussions, he put together a full itinerary packed with great activities and excellent hotels. Except for a couple of minor snafus and delays which prevented us from doing everything, the choices Greg made were generally excellent. At our request, Greg arranged for private tours in Tokyo, Kanazawa, Kyoto, and Hiroshima. The hotels selected were generally excellent. He prearranged all train tickets between cities and provided good guidance in explaining how to navigate local transportation. The best guided tours were the Shinjuku food tour (absolutely top notch sushi (I think the guide's name is Takeshi)) and in Kyoto ( our guide Pam was one of the best guides we've ever had - highly engaged, great sense of humor and extremely accommodating). The private tea ceremony and small group session with a geisha (who conversed with us, played a game and performed a traditional dance) in Kyoto were very special and particularly memorable. We found crowds somewhat overwhelming in popular spots in Kyoto and the Hiroshima peace museum (absolutely packed and could not really see the exhibits well). But all-in-all the planned activities were well worth it, and the package was very well organized. One piece of advice - do as much research on your own in advance so that you can make sure any particular items of places of interest will be included in the agenda which can be custom tailored to your interests, and leave some free time in order to relax, explore on your own, etc.

Greg planned an amazing 11-day trip for us in Japan. We got to see a lot of Japan, do a whole range of activities, eat a bunch of local foods (often via food tours), and travel around the country like locals on Japan's awesome public transportation. Some of Greg's instructions on how to get places, and what our timing was, were a bit confusing, but he offered to get on a call with us, which we did, and were able to clear up the confusion. So make sure you're clear on all of the details and know where to find what you need either on the KimKim app or from other source given to you by the travel agent.
One of the real highlights was that the company Greg used for our tours (Magical Trips) keeps the groups very small and uses local guides. We got to ask all sorts of questions of the guides and really connected with them, as well as the other person or people who were in our group. Through those conversations we learned the most about Japan's culture and daily life and this really made our trip.

Hi Debbie,

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughtful review. I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed such a wide variety of experiences across Japan and that the small-group tours and local guides helped you connect more deeply with the culture. I appreciate your note about the instructions, too, and I’m glad the call helped clear things up before your trip. Your feedback means a lot, and I’m grateful you took the time to share it. We have returned from a 21 day trip around Honshu, organized by the local specialist, Greg. Normally we plan our own adventures but were overwhelmed by the multitude of possibilities in Japan. Greg provided excellent planning to experience as much as possible, as efficiently as possible, within our time frame. Our trip included a few guided days as well as some local cultural experiences. We particularly enjoyed the kintsugi experience in Kyoto and loved visiting the tea farmer in Uji. For the other days, we had either specific recommendations (which sometimes included train tickets) as well as more loose recommendations for things to do at our leisure and on our own. The combination worked well! All the little details were covered, including a pocket wifi device which proved invaluable. Prior to the trip, Greg was alerted to the endurance/mobility limitations of one of our party and worked to create itineraries which would work with less demanding walking. Having someone in country familiar with the landscapes and distances was very helpful in our specific case. As the trip commenced, that limitation actually increased, but Greg was able to pivot to adapt to the changing needs, primarily consulting with guides to adjust the itineraries when it looked like we wouldn't be able to manage.

This villa is absolutely beautiful, with a sauna as well as indoor and outdoor baths. It is isolated with beautiful landscaping and outdoor spaces. The breakfast is delivered in the morning, but was a bit disappointing. I know Japan is a tea culture but there was no coffee (didn't know in advance to buy coffee for the machine). My only problem with it is that it is located way up a hill from the center of Takayama. It's a tough walk back up to the villa. We did take a taxi back to the villa and had to assist the driver to find the villa , even with his gps. Luckily I remembered some visual landmarks to get us to the space!

Japan was the 4th trip that we've booked through KimKim! Greg arranged the best trip we've had so far! In working with Greg, we could tell that he wanted to give us the best possible experience of Japan and it's culture, and he delivered!!

We had a mix of private guided tours, small group tours, exploring on our own, as well as some select private experiences (Japanese Afternoon Tea at the Palace Hotel, decorating Lacquered Japanese Bowls as well as Japanese Calligraphy).

The hotels that Greg suggested, were all located in areas close to public transportation as well as sites we could walk to, in some cases. We opted to have breakfast included at each hotel, and the selection of both Western and Japanese style offerings was outstanding.

We spent 2 weeks total in Japan Tokyo (4 nights), Kanazawa (2 nights), Kyoto (5 nights) ,Hiroshima (2 nights) and
Hakone (1 night)

We came away from our experiences in Japan with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Japanese culture - thank you Greg, for making this possible!!

This was our first experience staying in an Onsen. Definitely something one should try at least once when they visit Japan! From leaving your shoes at the front door to picking out a kimono to wear while on-site, each experience was new. Dinner was served over several courses in your own private space in the dining area. Breakfast was in the same space, with many dishes offered. The beds were comfortable and the room was spacious and comfortable.

Authenticity & Character
Wearing kimonos was a very nice touch! The rooms had that old world feel with modern amenities, of course!
Location
The Onsen was within walking distance from the Open Air Art Museum (not to be missed!) and the cable car when returning from Ōwakudani Station and Gora Botanical Gardens.
Staff
Friendly but professional staff. They guided us through the check-in (tea provided) and off to our room where they explained how to use the soaking tub!
Cleanliness & Comfort
Well maintained property that you can see the staff cares about!
Hotel Granvia Hiroshima South Gate

We weren't sure when we were first presented with the idea to stay in a hotel located within the train station in Hiroshima, but it turned out to be one of the best stays! The room was on the smaller side (bed right up against the wall), but we didn't spend much time there, as we were out seeing the historical sites. Breakfast in the on-site restaurant was outstanding with many local and western items to choose from. We caught the streetcar steps from the hotel door, and when we were leaving to head back to Tokyo, the Shinkansen platform was just at the other end of the train station. Easy Peasy!

Authenticity & Character
This felt more like a business hotel, which isn't a bad thing...
Location
Just steps to catch the local streetcar or trains to other cities. There was a shopping mall located within the train station, and there were several food courts and dessert shops located right next to the hotel!!
Staff
The staff were very helpful answering our questions for catching the streetcar and provided us maps and timetable.
Cleanliness & Comfort

Kyoto

We really enjoyed our 5 night stay at this hotel. The room was a nice size with a comfortable bed, and a relaxing shower that was separate from the sink and toilet (which was in it's own space!). The breakfast was outstanding, with many different dishes to try. The location was near a laundromat, restaurants and public transportation. The Nijo Castle was a short walk away and well worth the visit!

Authenticity & Character
Bamboo flooring, calm muted colors, it was just a pleasant place to come back to each day!
Location
While public transportation was available, we found it much quicker to have the front desk request a taxi for us when we wanted to see some of the sights (a 40 min bus ride with transfers became a 15 min taxi ride to the Bamboo forest).
Staff
The front desk staff was very helpful requesting taxi's for us and giving us bottled water, always with a smile!

Location
The Omicho Market and many temples/shrines were within walking distance, as well as the Kanazawa Castle and the Samurai district.

We enjoyed 4 nights at this hotel. The room was a bit smaller than we were thinking it would be (bed was against the wall and one of us had to crawl over the bed each night to sleep. The view from the room however, was amazing! We were on the 17th floor and had a city view with gorgeous sunsets. The on-site restaurant had an outstanding breakfast with many local and western dishes to try! The location was excellent being close to many subway stations and temples. We went to a 6:00 a.m. Buddhist service that was a 10 min walk from the hotel. We would definitely stay here again!

Authenticity & Character
While this hotel was part of a chain, it didn't feel cookie cutter at all. They had a beautiful Kimono on display in the lobby.
Location
Close to many subway stations and temple

Staff were very polite and helpful, though we had to resort to Google Translate often.

When this experience was first presented, I didn't think we would appreciate it as much as we did. Hisae and her mother were excellent, patient teachers. The brush strokes are performed in a style unique to Japanese Calligraphy. Hisae's mother was very gracious and wrote out our grandchildren's names in Japanese calligraphy for us to present to them as something special from Japan.

We had a lot of fun with the guest artist decorating Japanese bowls to keep - we were pleasantly surprised how well our bowls turned out! The location was close to where we were staying and was in a one room building, which is also used for other activities. Lots of light and a welcoming location.

Our guide, Rimiko, took us all around the Omicho Market where we tried some raw oysters, Crab and pork croquettes, local Wagyu beef freshly grilled as well as some favorite desserts of Rimiko that she introduced us to. We stopped at the Oyama Shrine on the way to the Samurai district and saw where the Samurai lived at one time, though the area has been gentrified.

This was a small group tour with 7 of us (an Australian family of 5 and my husband and myself). The guide spoke very good English - she had lived in Australia for a time, which was very helpful as we had lots of questions. The tour actually took place in parts of the red light district of Tokyo. What an eye-opening experience that was. Often food tours will inundate you with 7-10 stops .This tour was nice in that we only went to 3 spots. The first stop was to a restaurant where we had tempeh and sushi. The second stop was the best - Korean barbeque wagyu beef we grilled at the table - delicious! Last stop was to see the lights over the city and have some gelato. The tour guide was fun and the group had a good time!

Truly an amazing, one of a kind experience. The house was beautiful and it was great to change up our setting after being in two hotels in other cities. The house has a huge shower/cedar tub that was great for relaxing in after a long day of walking in the summer heat. We really appreciated the breakfast that was delivered to the house and that it showcased local food. If you are looking for something a little different and very authentic this is a great option.

Staff were very helpful - we had our luggage delivered from our previous hotel and the staff were very accommodating and offered to wait while it was delivered so that we could meet up with our local tour guide. There are not usually staff on the premises 24/7 because it is a residential home but they were only a quick email/whatsapp message away.

We had an amazing experience with our host. One of our attendees didn't fully appreciate the intricacies of the Wagyu experience but he was an unfortunate outlier. Emily was an amazing guide and we greatly appreciated her knowledge of Shinjuku, it's history and insights into areas to visit again on another trip. My son has a peanut allergy and she was very sensitive to that issue and made sure we did not have anything to worry about in that regard and we were very happy to have her when we stopped at the retro candy store and she was able to double check all of the food labels for us!

This was an amazing treat. We received instruction on Japanese Calligraphy from an amazing family in Nara. Our senior instructor had incredible skill and made the process look so simple. She and her daughters were gracious hosts helping us work on our brush strokes before getting to create a final version that they then framed. We ended the session with a light snack and some tea, which absolutely hit the spot before we continued our sightseeing at Nara park. We could have spent the entire day with these magnificent ladies and it was a true pleasure to learn from them.
