Hugo Romero

Hi, I'm Hugo, and I’d be thrilled to help you plan your dream trip!
With over 13 years of experience helping travelers on their plans and 7 years of living abroad, I’m passionate about sharing my love for Mexico and its wonders with fellow travelers like you.
Whether you’re seeking natural adventures, exciting nightlife, or an authentic cultural experience, I’ll guide you through the process to ensure you make the most of your visit to my beautiful country.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I'm a specialist in cultural and outdoors activities specially the immersive ones.
I like to add a touch of adventure when possible, doesn't matter if you're visiting a city or in the middle of the jungle.
I'm a big time foodie, if you can eat, discover and learn about a new cuisine, can it get any better?"

How did you get involved in travel?

"I studied International Relations and at some point I had to choose between two minors: International trade or Tourism management. I went for tourism because it's a more human connecting experience and I LOVE to learn about new places and cultures... after graduating I got a job in a major airline... and if I already had the travel bug it just got bigger and here we are, myself with a bunch of stamps on my passport sharing with you what travels have taught me!"

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"I'd never forget how while a I was in a small town in Morocco in the dessert, an elder man told me he didn't know what "México" was... and of course he had no idea where it was! While some other people in the same town knew names of famous soap operas Mexican actors and football Mexican players."

This trip was actually quite disappointing and I would not contract KimKim again for a trip in Mexico. They basically outsourced to another travel agency that charged very high prices for hotels and activities (now than we'd have paid booking the same hotels on booking.com, for instance), added their own 20% charge on that, and then KimKim added their 5%. So the trip ended up costing like a trip to Norway we previously had with KimKim, but... Mexico is not Norway! The activities were nice and... Read more

So the trip ended up costing like a trip to Norway we previously had with KimKim, but... Mexico is not Norway! The activities were nice and the hotels good location (though the room in one was way too small for a family of 4), but this trip would have cost us half the amount had we organized it ourselves. That's too big a margin. Not sure we'll use KimKim again after this experience.

This was a really fun activity, and as a bonus we walked to their neighbor who is a bee keeper and heard all about the local (stingless) bees. Well worth it!

Excellent food that we took part on cooking! And all from the local farm.

Our transport was with a company that chose a 1+ h longer route to save on tolls. Unacceptable.

Really fun trip, we had a great guide, he added a bunch of activities on the way, like feeding fish to birds from our hands!! Lunch at his family home was also excellent!!

We had a very good experience with an attentive and skilled guide. The sea was choppy but we still had a great time.

On the way there, seatbelts were not available on the back seat. I don't like risking my life or my kids' lives for any activity. Luckily they solved the issue before the drive back, because I'm was ready to walk back to our hotel instead (it was only half an hour walk, we could have walked on the way in had we known)

Amazing street food tour!! The only thing we regretted is doing it on our last day in Mexico, rather than earlier!

Friendly and truly enthusiastic guide who could answer all our questions and really knew the ins and outs of Merida and local food.

Thank you so much for your kind message, Yael.

We’re truly happy to hear that you had a wonderful experience overall, and we’re so grateful you took the time to share your thoughts with us. Your feedback means a lot, and we always welcome the opportunity to improve and grow.

We’re sorry to hear that your impression of the pricing impacted the overall feeling of your journey. We completely understand where you're coming from. At Kimkim, the goal is to create a space where travelers can easily connect with trusted local experts—and at Rutopía, we’re passionate about turning that connection into unforgettable, one-of-a-kind travel experiences.

Behind each trip, there’s a dedicated team of local professionals who pour their knowledge, care, and time into designing something truly special. We genuinely love doing this, but to keep creating these meaningful experiences and supporting communities across Mexico, we also need to be able to generate an income from it—so we can continue doing this work with the same heart and dedication.

Of course, traveling independently can be a more economical option for some, and we absolutely respect that. Still, many of our travelers choose us to save time, avoid stress, and enjoy authentic experiences that are hard to find on their own. Our goal is always to provide not just a trip, but peace of mind, local insight, and something truly enriching.

That said, we’re so glad your journey went smoothly and without any major hiccups—that’s always one of our top priorities. Once again, thank you for your honesty, we will continue improving how we share the full value of what we offer.

We’d love to welcome you back to Mexico one day—there’s still so much beauty to discover, and we’d be thrilled to help you explore it again.

Hugo.
