Hi, I'm Hugo, and I’d be thrilled to help you plan your dream trip!
With over 13 years of experience helping travelers on their plans and 7 years of living abroad, I’m passionate about sharing my love for Mexico and its wonders with fellow travelers like you.
Whether you’re seeking natural adventures, exciting nightlife, or an authentic cultural experience, I’ll guide you through the process to ensure you make the most of your visit to my beautiful country.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I'm a specialist in cultural and outdoors activities specially the immersive ones.
I like to add a touch of adventure when possible, doesn't matter if you're visiting a city or in the middle of the jungle.
I'm a big time foodie, if you can eat, discover and learn about a new cuisine, can it get any better?"

How did you get involved in travel?

"I studied International Relations and at some point I had to choose between two minors: International trade or Tourism management. I went for tourism because it's a more human connecting experience and I LOVE to learn about new places and cultures... after graduating I got a job in a major airline... and if I already had the travel bug it just got bigger and here we are, myself with a bunch of stamps on my passport sharing with you what travels have taught me!"

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"I'd never forget how while a I was in a small town in Morocco in the dessert, an elder man told me he didn't know what "México" was... and of course he had no idea where it was! While some other people in the same town knew names of famous soap operas Mexican actors and football Mexican players."

We had an absolutely fantastic experience working with Kimkim travel. I had never heard of this company, which made me rather hesitant. I was immediately put at ease by their direct communication and responsiveness from start to finish. Hugo Romero, our incredible travel agent, listened very carefully to our interests and responded quickly as our plans evolved. His accessibility via email and video call made the process tangible, reassuring and exciting. Ibis, our “travel companion”, was truly amazing. Before our trip we had a wonderful phone call to iron out details of the itinerary. She made it clear that she was available to us for any questions or concerns. She was in contact with us every day, making sure that each transition was seamless and that our every concern was addressed. Our drivers and guides were all very professional, knowledgeable and reliable.

Hugo created an amazing experience that allowed us to appreciate the stunning beauty and rich culture of the Yucatan Peninsula. The specific experiences were all beyond our expectations. Our amazing tour of Rio Lagartos Biosphere Reserve was filled with incredible wildlife encounters and was followed by a delicious meal in the home of our captain. His wonderful family welcomed us with such kindness that it felt like an all-to-short home stay. Our guide at Chichén Itza was a lovely elderly Mayan gentleman who shared his deep passion and knowledge. Our time in the Mayan community of Yaxunah was phenomenal. It was a privilege to be in this beautiful setting, learning of the history and traditions surrounding the preparation of delicious Cochinita Pib. Meters away was the Lol Ha cenote, where we were the only ones swimming in this peaceful, magical place.

Our trip coincided with an unfortunate moment of unrest following the death of a cartel leader. While we never felt any personal risk, we decided to end our trip early as there were shelter-in-place orders along the Mayan Riviera, which was to be our next destination. Ibis and Hugo were both reassuring of our safety and understanding of our decision. They supported us completely as we revised our travel plans. Due to their great effort and the generosity of the tour operators, we were reimbursed for all our missed activities. While we were saddened to miss out on the experiences, it was beyond reassuring to feel that this travel company was looking out for our best interests and responsive to our every need. I can say with great confidence that we look forward to working with them in the future as we are eager to return to Mexico.

All the drivers were prompt and most were friendly. Our driver guide for the trip to the butterflies was Pablo and we spent a wonderful 11 hours with him. All the other local guides were very knowledgeable and some had interesting backgrounds.

Kind of disappointing, although their restaurant is outstanding! Much, much better than the two recommendations we got for Museo de la Gastronomica in Merida and El Atrio del Mayab in Valladolid. Our excursion to Rio Largartos was special, as was Ek Balam! A special shout-out to Luz Ma, who helped me greatly all during the trip, with questions and concerns I had. This hotel gets three stars because of its location. The hotel is nice looking, with lots of trees and plants all around, but the rooms are sorely lacking in everything! Uncomfortable beds and pillows, no hooks in the bathroom, tiny rooms, etc. I requested and paid for a "balcony" room, and got a "Juliet" balcony room. No room for a chair to sit! Was disappointed. This was a challenging experience. The property was beautiful, but we had numerous problems with the hot water, air conditioning, and our room safe. We had to have a workman in every day to fiddle with the water and open our safe (when needed). Hot water would last maybe 2 minutes... We learned that several of the hotel's units had the same problem. The water heaters needed replacing. The workman even admitted this. In the first round of the trip, they moved us after 2 days. The new room had water problems as well, but the safe worked. It was better, but we learned we would be coming back to this other room for the last part of our vacation in Tulum. The hotel was booked up, and they had no options for us. They assured us they would fix the problems in the room, and they did not. We spent the last of our days in Mexico with this daily inconvience and they refused to help. We also noticed several units were empty around us. They wouldn't offer us any compensation and told our travel team at Kim Kim that they had when they hadn't. To lie like that is unsettling. Kim Kim Travel was nice enough to compensate us because they have character. The point of this review is to warn travellers about this place and its lack of empathy. There are so many great places in Tulum. Skip this one.

First of all, the transportation in the VW beetle was so much fun - I had not ridden in a convertible in many years! It was very special to have a tour of the lovely UNAM campus, given by a former student. Not only did she convey a lot of invaluable information about the various murals, but she was also able to talk about the campus life of UNAM students. In addition to the main campus, we also visited the sculpture garden, with an optional side trip to the nearby museum of contemporary art. All in all, an incredible day!

Again, I was fortunate to have Pablo as my guide for this experience. He is highly knowledgeable, patient and kind, the perfect person to deal with the unbelievable Mexico City traffic! We first stopped in Cuernavaca for a visit to the cathedral, where the significance of the various components of the site was explained. Then on to Taxco. I was excited to visit that charming city, which I had heard about and had seen on travel videos. We visited the Zocalo, and strolled around the city. I fulfilled my goal of finding a gift in silver for my husband. Pablo was very patient with my shopping!

Quality of Experience
Great opportunity for shopping for silver in Taxco! And it was nice to appreciate the “eternal spring” climate of Cuernavaca.
Guides, Drivers and Staff
Pablo was both guide and driver. He is absolutely phenomenal - knowledgeable, helpful, caring and kind. He was very patient and attentive to my comfort.

Among Charros Experience - A Mexican Tradition
Among Charros Experience - A Mexican Tradition
Guadalajara

This experience was not exactly as I imagined it, but was a lot of fun. Somehow I thought that I would be watching a charreria performance, but the visit was actually more interactive. I learned how to “rope” a calf (wooden), how to brush a horse, and I also learned a tremendous amount of background about the sport and those who perform it. There was also a tequila tasting, and a lovely serenade of Mexican music! Then at the end, there was actually a bonus performance of charrería. It was a truly unique and wonderful experience.

Quality of Experience
I enjoyed the interactive components of this experience.
Guides, Drivers and Staff
My guide Jorge was personable, funny and enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of the sport. When it was time to end, he called an Uber for me and waited outside with me until the Uber arrived. I’m sure that wasn’t necessarily part of his “job description!”
Transport
Comfortable van ride to the arena.
The Historic Route of Guadalajara
The Historic Route of Guadalajara
Guadalajara

We visited the historic center of Guadalajara, including the Expiatorio, the Zócalo, and the Hospicio Cabañas. The tour included both walking and also driving through some neighborhoods which were outside of the central area. It was an excellent introduction to Guadalajara. At the end we visited a local market where they were selling items for Día de Los Muertos, including components for home altars and decorations. It was very interesting to see, and fascinating to see people getting ready for the celebrations.

Quality of Experience
Daniel provided commentary and background about the Orozco murals in the Hospicio, as well as background about the Hospicio Cabañas building itself.
Guides, Drivers and Staff
Daniel (guide and driver) is extremely knowledgeable about the history of Guadalajara, and the history of México in general. He provided details about the Cristeros war and its effects on the area.
Transport
The transport vehicle is very comfortable. Daniel was always on time or early.

Guadalajara

A great day exploring this historic and charming area of the city! It was fun to stroll through the streets, stopping at art galleries and appreciating the Día de Los Muertos decorations. Also, we went to a store where they produce local candies, sweets and drinks; we learned about the process of making the treats, and were able to sample them all. Additionally, there was another included experience in which I was able to paint my own Día de Muertos skull.

Quality of Experience
There were several separate activities included in the day, providing a unique and varied experience.
Guides, Drivers and Staff
Daniel (both guide and driver) designed this experience, and contributed his background and comments throughout the day. He is an enthusiastic and personable guide.
Transport
Safe, comfortable transport.
Exploring treasures in Chapala and Ajijic
Exploring treasures in Chapala and Ajijic
Guadalajara

Visiting Lake Chápala and these 2 communities on the shores of the lake made for an enjoyable and illuminating day. The 2 communities were different, with Ajijic demonstrating a more expat influence, and Lake Chápala showcasing its locality as a weekend/vacation retreat. The huge lake was lovely, and the morning climate was perfect. There was ample time to buy souvenirs and ice cream. We saw a performance of the voladores, and Daniel provided the background for this pre-Hispanic ritual.

Quality of Experience
The contrast between the 2 communities was interesting. We stopped along the malecón at a booth where an expat group was preparing their Día de Los Muertos celebration, and I spoke with a couple members of the expat community at length about their experience living in Ajijic. That provided an interesting illustration of the expat way of life.

Daniel took advantage of the circumstances which could make this experience more personal

Very comfortable
Tequila Route and Agavero Landscape with family distillery visit
Tequila Route and Agavero Landscape with family distillery visit
Guadalajara

This was a long day, but did not lack for interest, adventure and diverting activities. We started off at the Guachimontones archeological zone to view the “round pyramids” and the site as a whole. There is a new and excellent visitors’ center which prepares you for viewing the site itself, with murals, exhibits and a film (choice of language). We were fortunate to be there on a day in which there was a performance of pre-Hispanic dance and ritual. The site itself is easily accessible with a slight uphill walk, and the views are spectacular. I also learned about the importance of obsidian to early people, and saw examples of beautiful pieces made from this substance, along with artifacts discovered at the site. We tasted agua miel, and then drove on to a tequila distillery to learn about the making of this beverage, driving through extensive fields of blue agave. Of course tequila tasting was included. Last stop of the day was the town of Tequila itself where, not surprisingly, everyone seemed to be in a good mood!

Quality of Experience
The opportunity to see the dancing at Guachimontones made this really special.
Guides, Drivers and Staff
Once again, Daniel is a superior guide in every way. He takes advantage of opportunities which present themselves without insisting on some type of rigid schedule.
Transport
Very comfortable vehicle for the long trip.
