My name is Tiago, and I was born in the Azores. I spent most of my life in a close proximity with nature, exploring and enjoying the natural landscape of my island, which made me choose to study natural sciences. I consider myself to be a very curious person, always seeking for answers to everything that happens around me.
In 2005 I started to study Ecotourism, and at that time that felt like the most obvious choice for me. After graduating in 2008, I have been dedicating my professional life to develop myself as a passionate nature guide, in several segments and activities. Best part is that I still enjoy it, and I'm eager for what's coming next.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"I'm based in the Azores, and I have become specialized in guiding hiking tour, mountain biking, canyoning exploration and whale watching tours. I also enjoy showing the sights and sharing all that I learned about this amazing place, especially it´s history, fauna, flora and culture. For me the best thing about this destination is its authenticity and the multitude of activities you can do in a short week time."
How did you get involved in travel?
"Since I can remember, I grew up believing I would became an engineer, as I have a strong admiration for mechanisms and machines. At the same time, I've spent most of my time exploring and sharing the adventure of discovery hidden places with my close friends.
It was only on the day that I had to sign up for university that I decided I wanted to spend my life outdoors, in close relationship with nature, and I decided to apply to study Ecotourism. After my degree, I started working at guiding off-road tours as a part time job, and decided to follow this career of guiding and showing my island to visitors from all over the world. "
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"In 2014, I was in Flores island (also in the Azores) to join an international Canyoning meeting, and I was exploring one the most challenging canyons with a group of 8 people. We were basically all strangers, with a lot of canyoning experience, but without knowing nothing about each other. As we approached the tallest, final waterfall, with 390 + feet, we all started to work as a long time closed team, and we all had a blast, hanging that high above ground.
From that moment we all became good friends, and we still keep in touch. I believe it was when I truly realized the power of adventure travel, and how great, challenging experiences can change people's lives."

San Miguel - one week - mainly hiking · the Azores - Aug 15 - Aug 22, 2017
The choice of itinerary was good. The guides were excellent. Communications could be improved.
Tiago chose the hikes and other activities very well. The flight information had not be requested from us and we were not met at the airport. The wrong date for the departing transfer was given in the written documentation we were given on arrival. I provided a phone number for contact but we were never called when morning pickups were delayed.

So organized, very accommodating, great variety of activities. Catia was so helpful with questions, preparation, and the overall planning of our trip. She even made a call for me in advance to help confirm a ferry trip I booked to another island for a day, because I was unable to dial internationally. Every single staff person was fun and friendly. Goncalo went above and beyond in accommodating us on our bike ride day around Sete Cidades. I would recommend Pico de Adventuras to anyone... read more

The arrangements were quite seamless through KimKim with a tour operator in the Azores.
Tiago and his team were really accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable. The guides gave us a much better look, and insight, to the Azores and Sao Miguel.
