Our trip to Cambodia was absolutely exceptional. Everything about the trip exceeded my expectations. We stayed at 3 properties (Palace Gate Hotel in Phnom Penh, Maisons Wat in Battanbang and Templation in Siem Riep); all wereabsolutely wonderful. They were beautiful and extremely comfortable, without being ostentatious or out of place. The staffs at each hotel were helpful and welcoming.

The activities were amazing -- In Phnom Penh, we loved the impressive National museum and perfect Royal Palace. In Battambang, we loved seeing the great artisans (especially the pottery making) and experiences like rice paper making. And, of course, it was unbelievable to be in Siem Reap with the extraordinary temples, including Ankor Wat, but also such gems as Banteay Srei.

We had some fabulous meals and are now big fans of Khmer food. We would especially call out the world-class meal we had at the Embassy (Siem Reap) with chef Kimsan Pol and her all female team. We also had a great meal at the sister restaurant in Phnom Penh, Sombok. We had the requisite cocktail at the Elephant Bar (Raffles), which had great cocktails, but even more enjoyed the Le Moon Rooftop Bar in PHnom Penh.

Our guides were excellent -- knowledgeable, pleasant, and helpful. Pikh in Phnom Penh was one of the best guides ever. She had great knowledge, was very flexible about incorporating our needs, and just a pleasure to know. Arn was also excellent. Steve, our local specialist, did a great job of accommodating our needs and adjusting to the things we wanted to spend time doing. He found us great places to stay, arranged all of our activities, as well as our great guides. He was super responsive.

The people of Cambodia are especially warm and welcoming. This would be worth noting at any time, but given the very difficult history of Cambodia, and even some of the current bombing at the border, this is extraordinary. We felt welcome everywhere we went and loved meeting the people there.

Thank you for an absolutely wonderful holiday. Cambodia has become a place that is near and dear to my heart. Come visit. You won't be disappointed!

Awkward concept -- we were not comfortable during this entire event. Going through an impoverished village and then riding an oxcart, while locals zoom by on the motorbikes. Getting off a boat (when the ride was not necessary or appealing) and being offered champagne in a dirt patch by the river in the middle of the afternoon). I could go on from there. But, this was the only low point of the trip.

Thank you also for appreciating the local activities and exploring villages around Battambang, the pottery village near Kompong Chhnang and much more besides. Many visitors just spend a couple of days to see the famous temples, without straying into the provinces. But a visit to these places is a far better way to get the feel of the destination.
I will pass on the kind words about the tour guides to then when we next meet.
Thanks again for travelling with Travel Asia a la carte/Kimkim to Cambodia. It was great to share a few moments with you at the hotel in Siem Reap. Please keep up the good work in promoting Cambodia!

I was in Cambodia for 8-9 days in late Nov/early Dec 25 and used Steve and his team to have a fully guided trip. I had three great guides and two drivers. All of the the guides and drivers were all accommodating, courteous, fun to be with and always on time. I stayed in a great hotel in Phnom Penh, I was on the third floor overlooking the pool. Breakfast was always good and they staff were friendly. I had a fun time going around PP with the guide who was very knowledgable about all the sites we visited. Next was a car ride from PP to Battambang, this driver was with me for the remaining days. He was a skilled driver which is what you want on the roads of Cambodia! My guide on this portion was also very knowledgable and if I had any unusual questions or requests he went out of his way to help me find the answers. Battambang is a charming town on the river - this was another great hotel (except for the nightly Karaoke at a nearby bar but I think that was beyond the hotel's control) the food here was okay but not my favorite. Again, the wait staff were attentive and helpful. My final leg of the journey was Siem Reap where I stayed in my favorite hotel. The location wasn't great (I felt a little isolated) but here is where Steve and his team really came through for me - I was walloped with "traveler's sickness" and Steve coordinated with my third guide, Dara, on which clinic to go to as well as which pharmacy to go to (apparently some are more reputable than others). Dara (guide) and the driver (Mr Ya) were so accommodating, they rearranged my schedule so while I was down a day, I was able to do most of what I had planned in Siem Reap, they were constantly asking how I was feeling and just looking out for me. The staff at my hotel were amazing, bringing me ginger tea and asking about my well being - at one point someone at the hotel found a thermometer for me, just wonderful caring people everywhere I went. As a solo female traveler, I always felt safe where ever I went and never felt like I stumbled in an "iffy" area the entire time.
I would definitely recommend Steve and his team of guides. When I go back to Cambodia, I will definitely use his team again. I asked to be in non-touristy hotels which he made happen, while I did the typical tourist activities (temples, pagodas, the killing fields etc.) it was always personalized to me and what I wanted to see and do. The activities were well thought out and all were fun. I really loved the circus in Siem Reap and of course the temples were an incredible experience. The pacing was nice with being out for several hours, then returning to the hotel for an hour or two then heading back out again. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip as well as my accommodations and guides.

The food was great, the room was comfortable and I liked the set up of the shower in the room (in the corner) but if I had been with my family this set up wouldn't have worked. I loved this hotel, the staff was absolutely amazing, they spoke to me every time I saw anyone, they remembered I liked ginger tea and would preemptively ask if I wanted some when they saw me. They would ask about my day, how I was feeling (I was sick while there) etc. There were fresh flowers in my room and bathroom sink, they had my name and flowers on my bed - just overall very nice. The bed was comfortable and I loved the leafy green scenery outside off the balcony. The location seemed a little odd, there is another hotel nearby but overall it wasn't really close to anything - then again since I was sick I wasn't doing my usual exploring on foot so I am not sure exactly where it fit in the city at large. Pool was nice and seemed like a relaxing spot, I got a massage and they was very nice - I would've done more treatments but ran out of time.

We will share the comments about Farmhouse Resort so they can mention to the guide to translate and interact more with the guests. Previous feedback was fine, but it might be a newer guide. In any case, it's good to reinforce they do need to translate, even if it's just chit chat, so guests know what is being talked about.
Also, we definitely noticed you did not enjoy the Heritage tour. It is designed to provide an insight into a certain period of Cambodian history. Exploring all the stops with a local guide would take more than a day. However, yes, it's produced by a French expat. We will reevaluate and make sure if it is appropriate for all guests.
Thanks again for travelling with us in Cambodia. It was a pleasure to catch up briefly at your Siem Reap hotel and hope that when planning your next trip you check with Kimkim to see if they have a local expert to assist in your travel planning.
Best regards from Siem Reap,
Steve.

Poleak and Sreylan are both excellent guides who made the trip very enjoyable. Their input and know-how made this truly a holiday to remember. We were able to balance nicely the cultural aspects of Cambodia (historic temples and the shocking history of the killing fields) with fun activities such as bike tours and the wide range of foods available in the country. Top marks all round.

Dear Stephen,
Thank you for sharing such pleasant comments about your trip to Cambodia. It helped a lot that you, Beat and Klaus all had input on your wishes and left me to go away and create a suitable trip plan. It's great you appreciated the old (even the tragic parts) and could experience the new.
No rat on the food tour? Well, it's rare to see in the cities. They do sell on the roadside near Battambang. We must take you there next time. The marinade really does make it tasty!

The guides, drivers, hotels & staff, and experiences were all fantastic. Horn (Siem Reap) and Lenh (Phnom Penh) shared much of their own personal life experiences beyond their rich knowledge of their country/regions/cities, which created deep personal connections we couldn’t have created if we’d planned and executed our trip DIY. And Wanna Rith in PP, who led us in our street food dining tour, is a treasure!! He was hilarious to hang out with. Our time in the jungles of the Cardamom Mountains at the Cardamom Tented Camp was also very special with wonderful staff taking care of us and creating rich memories.

We’ll be thrilled to recommend our friends to work with KimKim and Travel Asia a la Carte to arrange travel in Cambodia!

Long Set Resort
Koh Rong
Authenticity & Character
The exterior of the hotel is showing some age (cracked stucco, peeling paint). We found the extent of smoking permitted in the dining area and on the private beach offputting. It would be good for the hotel to implement a “no smoking” policy in the dining area and on the private beach.

The floor in our room hadn’t been cleaned in some time: there were dried coffee splashes on the floor.

Such a wonderful experience in the middle of the Cambodian jungle. Just the right balance between luxury and “roughing it”! The tents were amazing. Note that there is no air-conditioning, and the temperatures in the tent reflect the ambient temperatures of the jungle. Each tent is equipped with a fan to move the air around. The location on the river is idyllic. The food and service is fantastic. We had a great time with our guides trekking in the jungle and boating on the river int he evenings, wildlife spotting. Highly recommend for an unforgettable family experience.

Wonderful boutique hotel excellently managed and staffed, and conveniently located between Angkor and downtown Siem Reap, meaning it was serene and quiet. The staff were fantastic and the service they provided was amazing, interior and exterior decor is beautiful and the rooms are well appointed. And one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in! The dining room and the menu were exceptional. Looking forward to our next stay!

Hi Sean,
Thank you so much for the kind words. I am truly pleased we well understood the original request and were able to deliver a quality, informative, and memorable trip, suited to all members of the family.
It was great to catch up with 3/4 of the family in Siem Reap. I can also say our guides enjoyed your company very much as well.
I hope you can return one day and discover more of Cambodia.
Best regards,
Steve.
