Getting Around Jordan

Jordan is a compact country, approximately the same size as Portugal or the US state of Maine. Its highway network is well developed, making Jordan's top attractions straightforward to reach. Most travelers opt to hire a private driver, although rental cars and tourist buses are available as well.

Most of Jordan's top sites are in the western part of the country, including Amman, the Dead Sea, Petra, and the desert wilderness of Wadi Rum. The distance from Jerash (just north of Amman), to Aqaba (just South of Wadi Rum) is 230 miles (370 km) and can be covered in about 5 hours, although most travelers take multiple overnight stops on this route to experience the country.
