What you'll do

Your excursion will begin in the morning when your guide picks you up in Puerto Natales. They'll drive nearly an hour and 20 minutes to Samiento Lake, where you'll head out on an hour-long hike to discover a series of fascinating 6,000-year-old cave paintings left behind by the area's first inhabitants. From there, you'll continue to the Blanquillos Lagoon, a tranquil spot known to be a popular nesting and feeding place for various endemic bird species, such as the caiquénes ("upland geese") and striking black-necked swans.

Next, you'll enjoy a two-hour hike until you reach the Amarga Lagoon gate, the main access point to the park. While here, take some time to rest and refuel, absorbing the serene beauty of your surroundings. Then, your guide will drive you to Paine Waterfall, where you'll enjoy a relaxing lunch with an uninterrupted view of the three imposing granite towers that lend the park its name.

Once you've eaten, you'll hike toward Cañadón Macho, well-known for its abundant wildlife, including guanacos, gray foxes, condors, black-chested eagles, and if you're lucky, even a Puma! This walk through the park's diverse ecosystems will give you an up-close look at the region's diverse fauna and an in-depth appreciation of the park's biodiversity. As the sun begins to set, it will be time to return to your hotel. With a hiking distance of 4 miles (6 km) and a difficulty level classified as low, this excursion is manageable for most fitness levels.
