What you'll do

This immersive activity takes you deep into the Burgundy countryside between Beaune and Dijon, where you'll find the Maison aux Mille Truffes (House of a Thousand Truffles) surrounded by vineyards and woodland. This small, family-run business is part of the Côte-d'Or Truffle Route, where rich limestone soils and old-growth oak forests provide the perfect growing conditions for the prized Burgundy truffle (Tuber uncinatum).

After a warm welcome from your guide and their trusty truffle-sniffing dog, you'll set off into the surrounding parkland, learning about the art of cavage as you seek out the region's "black gold." Discover how these specially-bred dogs are trained from puppyhood to recognize the scent of truffles, and hear how they learn to differentiate between varieties and ripeness.

You'll also get a fascinating introduction to the world of Burgundy truffles themselves—how they grow, why they're so highly prized, and what makes this region's terroir so unique. When the hunt is over, you'll watch as the delicate fungi are carefully dug out of the earth, then return to the starting point to end the experience with a tasting of several regional truffle products.
