Authenticity

Born from cherished memories of childhood summers spent in Mendoza, Casa de Uco is the passion project of local winemaker Juan Tonconogy, who collaborated with his father (renowned architect Alberto), and his sister (interior designer Julia) to create this striking design hotel deep in the Uco Valley wine country. The austere concrete-and-glass architecture works in surprising harmony with the surrounding 790 acres (320 ha) of organic vineyards, softened by living roofs, reflecting lagoons, and expansive windows that frame the Andes from every angle. Inside, warm wood accents, trailing plants, and natural materials add warmth to the minimalist interiors. 

Location

You’ll stay in the heart of the Uco Valley, in an isolated setting surrounded by endless organic vineyards and framed by the snowcapped Cordón del Plata mountain range. A two-hour drive takes you north to Mendoza and the Gobernador Francisco Gabrielli International Airport, where you can connect with direct flights to Buenos Aires and Santiago. You'll need a rental car if you plan on exploring farther afield, though you'll find plenty to do without leaving the estate. 

Rooms & Bathrooms

There are 21 rooms, suites, and villas spread across the property, all with minimalist but warm interiors that incorporate polished concrete floors, blonde woods, and a soft, nature-inspired palette of neutrals. Bathrooms are sleek and modern, with glass-walled showers or separate soaking tubs. Cordón del Plata units are the most compact, with private balconies or inviting day beds tucked beneath picture windows. One and two-bedroom Laguna suites take things up a notch, with large terraces, floor-to-ceiling windows, and separate living rooms; separate multi-bedroom villas offer more space and privacy. All floors are reached via elevator, and one ground-floor room is adapted for guests with limited mobility. 

Amenities

The airy, glass-walled restaurant showcases contemporary Argentine cuisine sourced entirely from local Uco Valley farms and the estate's own garden. Brush up on your tasting skills at the bar, where the resident sommelier will help you pick your favorite malbec, or book a tour of the winery to dive deeper into the estate's sustainable viticulture practices. Other activities revolve around the vineyards—go horseback riding or cycling among the vines, or indulge in a vinotherapy treatment in the spa, where you'll also find a hydrotherapy circuit, cedar and steam saunas, and a solarium. Outdoors, an unheated infinity-style pool and Jacuzzi overlook the surrounding irrigation lagoons.

Family-Friendliness

This is an adult-oriented retreat, and children under 12 aren't accepted. The contemporary architecture, open water features, and isolated setting make it best suited to couples, groups, and families with older children and teens. The latter will find plenty of space in adjoining rooms, two-bedroom Double Laguna suites, or the multi-bedroom villas.

Sustainability

Sustainability is woven into nearly every aspect of the estate's operation. Native grasses and wildflowers grow across the buildings' green roofs, and the central lagoon—fed by Andean runoff—provides low-impact irrigation. The property operates its own wastewater treatment system and biodigester, composts kitchen waste for use in the gardens, and harnesses energy through extensive solar panels. The organic kitchen garden supplies much of the restaurant's produce, while the surrounding organic vineyards follow GLOBAL G.A.P. standards for responsible agriculture.
