The low, one-story structure utilizes packed-earth and adobe to blend with the Atacama landscape and help keep the interiors cool, while native grasses and plants require little water to flourish among the walkways and courtyards. Inside, textiles, art, and furniture are dotted around the guest rooms and lounge areas to showcase the skill of local artisans.

Location

You'll stay at the southern edge of San Pedro de Atacama, the region's main hub for activities and excursions into the nearby Valle de la Luna and Salar de Atacama. Surrounded by the Cordillera de la Sal and the towering Licanbur volcano, this small town feels like a true desert outpost, with dusty dirt streets and traditional adobe architecture. It's a 10-minute walk to the main street (lined with shops, restaurants, and adventure tour companies); nearby, you'll find the cobbled town square and Chile's second-oldest church. The closest airport is Calama, about 60 miles (100 km) north.

Deluxe units are the smallest and open onto their own private interior courtyards; suites offer more space and private terraces (some add wood-burning fireplaces or outdoor showers). The hotel was designed with sustainability in mind, using traditional architectural and building practices that work with the desert's harsh climate. Extensive solar energy panels to help generate electricity and heat water throughout the property, and interiors are cooled by thick walls and shaded overhangs instead of air-conditioning. Organic vegetable gardens on-site supply the kitchen, and gray water is used for irrigation to minimize waste.
