Les Roches Blanches, Cassis
Historic Côte d'Azur hideaway, with sea-view rooms, fine dining, a Sisley spa, and an extraordinary setting at the edge of Calanques National Park
Overview
Kimkim's Take
- The hotel's dramatic setting places you between the village of Cassis and the entrance to the Calanques National Park, with views across the bay to the ocher cliffs of Cap Canailles.
- Upgrade to an Executive Sea View room for a private terrace, elegant Art Deco-inspired decor, and a marble bathroom with Acqua di Parma toiletries.
- You'll find two heated infinity pools carved into the limestone terraces, surrounded by sun loungers and shaded by Aleppo pines.
- Grab a table on the terrace at Les Belles Canailles, where you can pair the chef's famous bouillabaisse with a crisp Cassis rosé.
- Guests can also book an aromatic massage in the Sisley spa's waterfront cabins, play a round of pétanque on the terrace, or rent an e-bike to explore the surrounding national park.
- The smallest Classic and Deluxe rooms face inland; make sure to book a Sea View unit if you want the full Calanques experience.
- There's one adapted room available for wheelchair users, but due to the setting, some areas of the hotel (like the swimming steps) aren't suitable for those with limited mobility.
Authenticity
Named for its setting among the "white rocks" of the Calanques, Les Blanches Roches' original Belle Époque mansion dates back to 1887. The 1920s saw it turned into a swanky resort (suites are still named for past guests like Winston Churchill and Edith Piaf), but its most recent incarnation came in 2018, with a tasteful renovation that preserved the Art Deco character while adding modern 5-star amenities. Luminous glass-fronted rooms overlook stepped terraces shaded by Aleppo pines, and the overall vibe is relaxed and understated—perfect for those seeking a quieter kind of Riviera luxury.
Location
This might just be the most spectacularly situated hotel on the Côte d'Azur. Surrounded by the rocky coves and turquoise waters of Calanques National Park, with views across the bay to the headland of Cap Canaille, it's a 10-minute walk to the colorful fishing village of Cassis and a 30-minute drive up the coast to Marseille. A car is handy but not a requirement: the hotel offers a free shuttle into Cassis, e-bike rentals for exploring farther afield, and links to countless hiking trails. Valet on-site parking and EV charging stations are available at an added cost.
Rooms & Bathrooms
All of the 45 rooms channel a calm, understated brand of luxury, with pale oak floors, rosewood furniture, and a soft palette of pale greens and grays. Touches of lacquer, brass, and velvet evoke the hotel's Art Deco past, and bathrooms are clad in Italian marble and outfitted with Sisley and Acqua di Parma toiletries. Upgrade to a Deluxe Sea View unit to make the most of the setting, or nab an Executive room for floor-to-ceiling windows and a furnished terrace. Suites take the opulence up a notch, with multiple bedrooms, terraces, and wraparound views. Expect welcome treats such as a bottle of wine, straw hats, Mariage Frères tea, Nespresso machines, and a menu offering various pillows, pillow mists, and sleeping masks.
Amenities
You'll find two heated pools carved into the property's many limestone terraces, as well as a natural swimming area with stone steps, and a shaded pétanque court. Guests also have free access to nearby tennis and pickleball facilities, and there's a small on-site fitness room with Technogym equipment. For something more sedate, head to the Sisley spa for wellness treatments with panoramic sea views. There are three restaurant options: Les Belles Canailles' tasting menu highlights local Provençal ingredients, while Le Loup Bar serves Peruvian and Japanese-influenced seafood dishes by the waters' edge. The more casual Rocco offers Mediterranean fare overlooking the Cassis harbor.
Family-Friendliness
Children are welcome at Les Roches Blanches, and those under the age of three stay for free. Room options include Family Executive units (with two king beds), interconnecting and multibedroom suites, and a separate four-bedroom villa for larger groups.
